Please, we need more variety again, implement a tonnage cap of 550 tons and make 8 man drops fun again.
Thanks

2x lights = 50 tons
2x mediums = 100 tons
2x heavys = 150 tons
2x assaults = 200 tons

Problem solved and in the most Battletech way possible, bidding of tons.

In my opinion the system should balance only for total team tonnage, regardless mechs, skills and number of players in the group.
KISS works well in engineering, I imagine it would work in games too.

My thinking exactly, which is why I would go for 480 - it would make you do some compromises in either heavy or assault gap. Also, 480t = 8 x 60t, meaning there is still enough tonnage per player for a deadly machine.

Add 2 checkboxes near the launch button.
[x] Unlimited group weight
[x] Max 500ton group weight
Let players decide what they want to play in 8 player teams. If a team only wants to play in 500ton max matches just uncheck the unlimited box and click launch. If a team wants the lowest possible wait time, check both boxes while being no heavier than 500tons.

we ran vs the same team last night like 8 out of 10 matches and allways 8vs0 out come.
this is no fun.
i like to see mech class role warfair in game scouts, scouts hvy, support and so on. but the current 8 vs 8 is mostly ok run out draw fire and then cap befor there atlas can get back to base.
not fun or ya get mixed up with 8 pug man team who dont talk and get slautered.

Allow group invitation into drops so 2 groups can negotiate the terms in TS, prior to launch a match against each other in the game.
This might serve as a temporary solution until bv/ xp/ weight based mm or lobby system and stuff are rdy.
Would also be relatively easy to implement. Have a list with group leaders next to friends list and be able to invite that leader. If accepted, the group of the inviting leader and the group of the invited leader get matched against each other, once all players in both groups are ready.
That would fix up the imba to a point, where you guys ( the devs ) can take your time to really go over matchmaking and implement something sufficient.
Without stepping through the whole "Phase 3 - Sh.itstorm - Phase 4 - Sh.itstorm - Phase 5....."
This would be all that is needed at the current point. no more hotfixes and temporary fixes in mm!
Just give us the control and then take you time and do it RIGHT!

Commander : "OK boys, get on the scales..." "Good good, so I was talking to the other commander and we agreed upon 500 tonnes"
Recruit: "And you believed him, sir!"
Commander: "Of course son, this is war!"
Recruit: "but... aren't you supposed to try to win by outnumbering, outgunning and outmaneuvering, sir?"
Commander: "Don't be silly soldier, its not THAT kind of war"

The roadmap for matchmaking states that tonnage limits will be implemented in stage 3 of the matchmaking system.

Implementing a battlevalue system would take way too much time, think about it. A droplimit would suffice for now. I actually don't even care about the exact number, 550, 500, just take it as an example. I just don't want to have to play in a cheesy team config to have a chance of beating the other team.

And I am asking to implement this part now, not in three months. You are entitled to read my opening post before answering in this thread!

I've been running several drops with my clan-mates using 1 or 2 DDCs, (most of the times 1 DDC and 1 D), 1-2 lights, 1 medium (me) and the other heavies.. and you can win both much heavier and lighter drops.
It's how you employ your forces and how you coordinate.
The only truth is that on average, fast dragons are replacing hunchbacks/centurions as "cavalry" role.

4 Commando 2Ds + 4 DDCs = 500 tonnes

EDIT: Surely the system is clever enough to choose 2x light, 2x medium, 2xheavy, 2x assault and put them together?

I would be fine with that. At least they do not have 6 D-DC and 2 Lights. And if they did 480, you would have to drop another Atlas and pick up an Awesome.

I hope your right but I have yet to see PGI state that they are moving torwards any type of balancing system for mechs. All I see is a balancing against each player's skill.
FYI, PGI, 35t Mech + player != 100t Mech + same player. It just does not work.
