No AC/20 blues here. I love my dual AC/20's Cat. Devastating and beautiful. I call her Falcon Punch. You just have to lead with the AC/20 a lot to hit a moving target, but if you take your time and are patient, you can just destroy slow moving or stationary targets. Legging a jenner or a raven and then walking up to them and killing them execution style is great.

If you stick with it, you can become very proficient. I too pilot the 4G as one of my mechs (the Hunchback is the mech in which I am the most profficient). I can consistently (not just getting lucky) hit commandos and jenners moving at high speed. It takes a lot of leading. Still haven't learned to hit the Raven with it though. But I'll perservere and get there eventually, and if you stick with it I'm sure you will too.

I have been rolling a dual AC-20 cat and I have noticed a reduction in their effectiveness. I was really working hard to get good at head shotting enemy mechs and now its such a rarity. You don't simply slap in two AC-20s and expect to troll around a map as you take some serious reduction in either your engine or armor and for me it was both. And with the AC-20 being a slow sluggish projectile it takes skill to fire on the move at a moving target. The skill involved and making the tradeoffs of armor and speed was worth it being able to dish out a potent 40 damage but I'm starting to notice that is not the case anymore. I really liked my dual AC-20 Cat.

I think the main problem people have with the AC/20 is hey think it's an instant kill weapon. If you breach the armor with it they think it should result in a kill. Except that's not how the damage system works in MWO. Armor protects your internal components, once it's gone the internal components can be hit. But an AC/20 will only generate one internal hit. Now if you pair the AC/20 with a scatter weapon like SRMs you greatly increase the chance of hitting something vital like the engine.

OMG they really made AC 20 do splash damage?

I won't judge it right away, but really...ballistic weapons need more little niggling faults to send people to lasers?

Despite any change, Ac 20's still munch metal. You just can't spam shots, you need to rip mech components off through aiming and discipline to get the most out of the weapon.

no, god, read the thread
specifically, read the last 2 posts in the thread from the devs
basically a gm responded to him with 6 month old information that was no longer accurate. they don't do splash damage.

The first reply was filled with "maybe you should learn to play, stop QQing because you suck" type statements. I quoted it and said it was a dickish post...my post was deleted entirely (to be fair, it didn't really have a point if the quote was edited).

After reading all the post, the perception is that I'm new to the use of the AC/20. This is not accurate. I mastered the H-Back 4G in closed beta, along with the 4P & 4J. In Open Beta I have re-mastered the 4P along with 4SP and have already Elited my 4G on my way to re-Mastering.

The purpose of my post is to highlight the hit detection in hopes that the devs will give the AC/20 some much needed TLC.

I asked my bobble head. He asked my Dawn. She asked my dual AC20 K2, Spanish Inquisition. He said AC20 was fine. I trust all of three of them.

Just switch to lasers. It's awesome having your shots hit where you aim.

Yeah but way back in Closed Beta they DID put in the "collision radius." As noted it is not exactly what the OP is referring to but it does exist and you can now split the damage from projectiles across a coupld sections.

So I'm in my H-Back 4G and I catch a enemy H-Back off guard. I was within 100m and I opened up with my AC/20. We were both moving. I put 4 AC/20 hits into his back. 4!!!!!! I saw the hit graphic but after the 4 hits his back armor was gone and red. No kill for me ;) Some LRM boat got the kill. Last time I checked my H-Backs armor rating it didn't display over 80 pts.

PGI, I know you guys gotta make some coin and understand fluff content. But please fix the hit detection and fire delay of the AC/20.

Please share your AC/20 blues.

The back armor that is displayed is completely bogus. I can get behind an Atlas and do 3X 4 SRM6 Artemis strikes to the Atlas back and they don't blow up. Hell they *might* turn around and notice me on the 3rd strike. Back attacks do that little damage this patch.

I would actually like to see autocannons changed to act more like pulse lasers. Ultra autocannons would then be an upgrade, sort of like transitioning from a regular laser to a pulse. Same duration, just more DPS.

This would make them more effective vs fast targets, as it's not all or nothing. It is also more in character with the actual weapon as they aren't firing a single shot. That's what a gauss rifle does.

Autocannons fire a stream of projectiles. I'm not saying it needs to be as long duration as a pulse laser, just more than a single shot going to the target.

No blues, I literally got 3 kills in 15 seconds the other day in my K2 when I approached 3 enemies from behind trying to cap my base and 1 shot all 3 with my dual AC20 setup....was awesome.

Yen lo wang and its ac20 are wonderful.

The day mechs are where they appear on screen is the day many will recognize it properly as the God of Death.
