Light or medium, it depends on what mechs we get and how much I like being a scout.

Id go light more than likely. Zip around the flanks with srms and infernos is amung my favorite things. of course that can be swapped for two lrm10s and i can cherry pick if i get the chance. But i love speed

If my TF2 experience is any indication, i'll probably end up in an Assault. Knowing when and where to apply massive firepower is always fun.

Alternative, a decently fast Medium that lets you fill any needed role at any moment would also be good.

I've always been a fan of "heavy mediums" and "light heavies". Vulture and Bushwacker are definetly my favorite mechs.

I will be playing assault. But only if they give me jump jets on one. If I can't get me a jump capable assault mech ill fall back to a heavy with jump jets.

I think the weight class spread in the poll so far is exactly what I expected to see in a mechwarrior game.

Light mechs are very specialized into scouting and harassment with a little scout-hunter thrown into the mix. Like with any specialized role there will be less call for these mechs but when there is a need to fill a role they can do none can do it better.

Medium mechs are the most flexible weight class containing the scout, scout-hunter, harasser, flanker, fast-reaction, support, and light brawler. Is it any wonder they are the most common choice, they offer nearly every playstyle and can be very good at it too.

Heavy mechs are the next most flexible, and that flexibility is also why they are the second most common weight type, droping the scouting role and picking up a moar brawler/support focused role.

Assaults only really fill the area denial and heavy support roles they just aren't fast enough to be a brawler in my opnion and definitly lack the manuverability of all the other lighter weight classes. Area denial is one of those specialized roles that wont come up often and will be hard to actually do without getting pasted, much like scouting or harassment, and is why they should be the least piloted weight class.

Thats my take on why the poll has turned out like it has so far. :)

Will be going with both assault and lights. Never been much for the mid range mechs with the exception of the wraith.

I've always been a fan of the medium mechs, 55 tons more specifically, so I answered with that. But I don't know, I think I might give the Dragon a shot. Problem with the Dragon is that it's designed to be more like and compete with the 55 tonners, but since 60 tons is heavy territory it gets compared to those, understandably. Even so, I'm gonna try taking one and use it like a slightly chubby 55 ton mech.

Going to play an Assault as long as:

1. They aren't total money pits
2. Pirahna doesn't gimp them

I voted heavy as I am a fan of the combination of firepower and armour. Also i want a ride I can pack a Gauss rifle into at some stage, I love long range low heat sniping in support of smaller units. A good ride for a prospective commander.

Unless they release the Cyclops of course.

Ya I really see the Dragon as an oversized Medium Mech. When compared to 50 or 55 toners rather then other Heavy Mechs it actually isn't too bad.

I usually prefer Heavy 'mechs for the nice blend of guns, armor, and speed. The problem is, none of the finalized heavy designs are my favorites, so for the moment it looks like I'll be going Medium so I can enjoy the mobility. Slow 'mechs just bug me.

I'm leaning towards the Centurion right now. But my favourite mech was always the Marauder, so if that shows up... :)

Mediums, definitely. I'm not sure if I would go for a trooper design with a Centurion, or modify a Cicada for harassment (my favorite Battletech mech is the Talon, and I want to see if I can reproduce that).

i can only vote and went with assault(im 6'5" i need a big mech) the fire power is graet and the armor good, heat can be dealt with, but i hope they me off in a medium mech just so i can get feel of it again.

I'm hoping the mediums will be good. i always enjoyed dancing around assaults and heavies but looking at some of the betas im not so confident in being able to dodge. If that turns out to be the case then i'll most likely hunker down into a bruiser.

I think the lights.

I'm not the greatest shot in the world - I have pretty bad reflexes and timing, especially since I stopped playing King of Fighters, Rival Schools, and all of my other favorite fighting games. I also got out of DDR a long while ago, so that doesn't help.

At least by taking lights, I can fill a support role, limit my getting shot at, and most importantly - not draw too much attention to myself.

That said, though, It's still too early for me to really tell. I might well end up changing roles and weight classes outright. My head tells me I'm better for the scout role, but who knows what I'd actually excel at. Maybe I'm better in a Command 'mech... Maybe Fire support like an Awesome or Catapult....

More than likely a heavy. I like the maneuverability of them compared to assault. Assault is just too slow for me. Depending on the battle though I may choose a medium.

the good old days ( table top ) i had lances of atlas's and Warhammers 2c along with a lance of Awsomes. I never cared for clan. I was and always will be I.S. but it does make you think if there gonna throw clan mechs in the mix which to me only seems fair. another thing i think would be good is a single player story line or 2. and as long as they stay true to the mech warrior story line meaning weapons armor etc. then all of us old timers will stay true to the game!!!

Either medium or heavy. Though I would probably go heavy since I tend to be more of a brawler/CQB when I play mechwarrior games. So I'll want something with consdierably more armor than the others.

My sights so far was the Catapult K2 variant. I'm a huge fan of PPCs also so I'll mod it to become Medium to short range combat. (I'm thinking keep PPCs, 2-4 med lasers, 2-3 small lasers, 1-2 Machine gun. (This all depending if I could fit it all and have enough heat sinks to not overheat every 2 secs) or Cataphract.

If i end up getting Medium it will either be Vindicator (duhh) or Uziel.
