So what is the problem? 8 man premades were breaking the game and now 4 man premades are breaking the game? There are free voice chats available, people need to start using them and stop complaining.

No, PGI needs to integrate chat into the game. Right now, TS is like duct taping flashlights onto your car for headlights. Voice chat needs to be integrated asap. For a game that is supposedly team based, it just doesn't make sense for it not to already be in there.

4 man will usually always stomp PUGs.

No magic fix will change this.

Thats why they should disable teams in puggames.
Quickest and cheapest fix until real matchmaking is out and maybe the magic you are talking about.

@Max
Not everyone uses voicechat. But quickcommands executed by a few keys are the way. Tribes2, nearly 15 years old, had it and it was used more then voicecom. Just the commands you need accessable truth 2-3keys.
It uses less bandwidth (lesser costs for PGI) then ingame voicechat, people are more likely to use it and its easier to implement. Tribes 2 is free now, look at its quickcommands and battlemap and learn pgi! You can mark an object on that map and assign an order and all allys see the textorders and mapmarkers.

I know not everyone uses voicechat, but it should still be there. Should have been since day one. They did harp a lot about this being a team game and all. Personally, I'm pretty anti-social and probably wouldn't use voice much. I'd listen/lurk, but would only say stuff that is pertinent to the match. I hate it when people converse with each other over voice.

I also agree with you about the quickcommands. Another thing that should have been there since day 1.

Also, MWO does have a map, and and the commander can mark objectives on it. But few take command, and fewer realize what those marks on the radar are. Why? Because PGI refuses to put any types of hints or tips directly into the game.

I've been playing since day 1 of the OB and pug exclusively and used to have a W:L record of about 1/3 and K:D of 0.5and stayed static at those ratios for a while. Recently, last week or two, I had some breakthroughs in understanding of this game and personally got much better leading to a much higher success ratio.

By the time I get to 400 deaths my K:D will hit 1:1 and at about 450 losses ill hit 1:1 for wins. Both stats are rapidly improving, I generally get 2-3 kills a round, sometimes 0 or 1, sometimes 4 it can go both ways. My win percentage went way up as well with a lot more rounds surviving to the end. And win or loss I usually end up in top 3 for both damage and kills overall showing higher personal improvement.

I use team chat to help my team and have a much better understanding of how to help my team, the addition of ECM and 'synced 4-man drops' aren't causing me to do worse, they are just another variable I contend with. I doubt I am some exceptional player that is sooooooo good that I am personally able to overcome all of these obstacles and lead my team to victory, I'm also pretty sure I am not routinely dropping with 4 mans.

I assume expectations for premades going into pugs are skewed because they are expecting more than a narrowly higher than 1:1 win ratio, and people new to the game just haven't made it over the learning hump yet and are looking to find a reason that they are losing so much.

It won't change until PUGs are totally separate from teams. You only needed to look at the number of posts made in previous threads saying " we will carry on dropping 4 man to get the C-bills for new mechs/upgrades and better XP for levelling, so we can be competeive in the "proper" game.". One even stated that PUGs only exist for farming and should shut up.
The problem for a lot of "premades" is that they don't have the skill to compete against the better teams in 8v8.

That says a lot about people fighting for groupdrops (3-4people) in puggames .

The 8 man queue is so empty it's pretty reliable despite the lack of weight-class match making.
