Which is a terrible way to do it. They may come out the week prior and explain it, but don't you think they should be hyping it up?

In case you weren't online back in the day: Used to be when a game was still being fleshed out and tested we all had to wait out in the forums and beg for scraps of info.

Now, because of the Founders' and their privileges, and then because of their relative lack of constructive input, more people get to see what is happening, what tech is being gradually added, and how it all plays while they work on it.

But because they now get to see what is there some of our playtesters think they are owed something more. They just don't get it.

Makes me want to cuss, but they are only victims of how they were raised by idealists who worried more about their little boy's self-esteem than they were about promoting self-discipline, independent thinking, and socially conscious ethics.

Blah blah....blah blah blah...

The overall point should be that PGI's internal testing process seems to lack a coherent thought process sometimes. We are all painfully aware is still beta although when you take people'a money it's really a soft release of an incomplete game.

We as the testers have told PGI a number of mistakes and to not implement or to implement something and they completely ignore the testers and say "it was tested internally" before release...only the have the community smash them in the face with "We told you so" after "We told you so" after a crappy patch.

Being in the software industry, "Beta" has become a looser and looser term over the ages

Only by sub-par developers making substandard products.

Everywhere else, it's a technical term with a well defined meaning.

Call it whatever you like.

However, bear in mind the following:

There are no refunds for real world currency purchases.
Your Premium Time, Cbills, and MCbills are not going to be refunded.
You get no do-overs in the Mechlab upgrades department.
The next patch may completely kill your efforts to build/acquire/use certain mechs and loadouts.

Be it cash or time, we all have a significant personal investment at this point. To that end, the community now holds PGI to a higher level of accountability in all aspects. We expect things to change, but we also expect that they not negatively impact us as players. So when patches fail to noticeably address those items that the community holds important, or changes render our previous efforts and purchases ineffective, you're going to see people complain about it.

Well people are paying money to play, the only way to get a hero mech. That makes it retail.

To pay money and call this beta would be the same as someone playing SW: TOR right now and calling that beta.

Ohh philosophic debate; ok, I have one!

If you walk into a restaurant when it's closed, and give the waiter 2 bucks for a coffee, is the store open?

I think you just blew my mind.

First question - How did you get in?
Second question - Is the "waiter" really a waiter?
Third question - Is the coffee machine really on?

Yes you would because unless they were gagged with an NDA would post videos. Problem is, we have no access to test it and they won't be giving us information until the day it goes live.

How about when you walk into a cafe and pay $5 for a meal, only to find that the meal is covered in live insects? Then call the waiter to get rid of them, only to find that your next dish has worms?

There's generally a lock on the door to keep the public out when a restaurant is closed.

And if they forget to lock the door, and you walk in, they generally say, "Oh, sorry mate, we're closed", and ask you to leave.

Ignoring that if they were to actually be a restaurant rather than say, space for lease that promises to be a restaurant some day, they'd prob sell you a cup of coffee. And when they did so, the cup would actually not leak and when you tasted it you would find it was actually coffee and not tea.

So you don't think that PGI should in some way shape or form tell us what conquest is and what it will be like prior to the patch? You don't think by doing so it would drum up more interest in the game which in turn, would increase player population which in turn, would increase profits for PGI/IGP?

Think of this as more of a "soft opening" of a retail store before the "grand opening". You can still purchase stuff, but it's not final yet.

well you start your own game up and run things your way. They are a small company and the game is coming along. Yes it does have problems but it will get better over time.

You may want to consider not eating at a bait shop?

You may want to consider that this is pretty much what we're getting.

No no - when you complain about the insects they say, "Oh, that's Beta!" and keep your $5.
