Personally I love this game, and play every spare minute I get. But this i completely understand;

And before all the 'but it's beta' calls so is DOTA 2, Hawken goes open beta today, and planetside has only just gone release.

Sad state of affairs.

Well Pirahna does have glowing reviews from Metacritc, they don't have any games below 50%!!!!!

I actually did look and see what they had done previously before buying the founder's pack. I gave them about a 50/50 shot of being able to produce something that wasn't horrid (basically, I thought they might have improved and ... well, it was the only way we were going to see a new Mechwarrior game).

I've ... reduced those odds since.

If you cast aside the fanboy views here that this is the best game ever and a possible cure for cancer, reality is MWO has failed to impress, failed to deliver.

Respectable flag titles like PC GAMER already did MWO a kindness to review it (becoz of the "Because it's Mechwarrior factor).

But take away the legendary title, this game doesn't have a leg to stand on in any category, even compared to the other beta's nominated. Actually.. One leg.. Because it's mechwarrior.... But thats fading thin and fast lately.. Noticed the forums are kinda dead now.. Not long before the fat lady sings on this one I'm afraid.

PGI promised to release their numbers in new years, truth comes out then, not long now.. But my money is for their self preservation they are gonna hide that too with another flimsy excuse and spin.. As usual.

You sir nailed it. Now Hawken and DOTA 2 and Mechwarrior Living Legends to name a few...Planetside 2.. ok i'll stop. This game was a cash cow for PGI that's all. They have your money congrats over 5 mil in Founders and what, hire new people, new talent. Hell no they have that money dead game or not. We were supposed to be in community warfare by now, clans come out in April, LOL. PGI took a solid franchise, milked it and now they don't care. I have seen mods that have a better development cycle and they are nonprofit. Their testers also need to be fired and any group/merc unit "working with them" needs to get cut off. They cant bug test at all. anyways i haven't and will not spend money on this game so no loss for me. guess i'll just keep my 4 mechbays and do whatever exploit i can to farm money so i can always buy whatever mech i feel like running at the time. Oh and don't tell me that me not spending money on this game matters. They got WAY more than they deserve from founders who believed but have now written off this game and no longer play.

As someone who has read PC Gamer for over 15 years and still has a subscription, I kinda chuckle when people say they're "biased" or whatever when they publish something they don't like. I have seem them tear down "AAA" titles from the very publishers that advertise in their magazine (often advertising the game itself in the same issue).

Overall they tend to offer some of the best coverage of the industry, certainly better than any of the online gaming sites I've seen.

I'm going purely on their online site. Although they are following a trend that review sites tend to do anyways: not give horrible reviews. From a purely statistical point:

Amount of reviews on PC Gamer website: 356
Amount of reviews with a score less then 50: 21

They have good content, it's just their scoring system that's a bit off.

Nothings gonna stop the lurking One Eyed Founders and fanboys with their standard Ad hominem holy flame on any person or entity that doesn't praise the lord PGI-IGP and worship the creation of god that is MWO. To them all heretics deserve to be stoned and spat upon in these forums for saying they worship false gods, lol.

PC gaming nowadays besides MMO's is a very hard sell due to piracy. Microsoft got rid of the Mechwarrior license because there just wasn't a way to make money with it. You can't expect a AAA developer to develop it due to the risk.

That being said, I've seen worse, a lot worse come out of AAA studios for balanced PVP: Star Wars the Old Republic /cough.

And yet, millions of people disagree with you.

No, really ... people actually like D3. Especially people who aren't hard-core gamers who played D2 for 10 years.

I played D3 for hundreds of hours with friends; it was fun, and I got plenty of entertainment out of it for my $60

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people don't.

Jersey Shore is popular to so what...people are morons.

Hawken is very very meh. Might as well call it a reskinned COD for the type of gameplay it is. Which is fine is that's what you like. But you can't really compare games like Planetside and Hawken to MWO as they are different genres.

Does this one have bugs, hell ya, but show me a game that is year into it's release that doesn't have any bugs. There are games with a decade under their belt with bugs. You think these patches here cause problems?? Lol Eve Online started deleting people's boot.ini after a patch, how's that for game breaking.

This game is one of the few I find fun these days, it's not perfect but it's pretty good for being developed by a small team and without having the financial backing of a giant like Sony. This game is only gonna get better, but hey if it flops no worries life goes on.

Is it interesting that MWO is "to be developed" and they have the release date at "dec 31 1969" AND "dec 31 2012"?

Well that and they completely and utterly failed at their Mech Assault games. I'd give up the franchise to after sodomizing it like that.

So, why don't you start a game company, make a Mechwarrior game, and show everyone how it's done, bra?

WE'RE WAITING

Legally that can't be done. PGI has the license to the IP. So PGI would have to abandon the license first.

Lulz all around, they're on me this time. Its interesting and superbly ironic that not less than three months ago PC Gamer was tauting all freakin awesome MWO was, and how it was easily going to be in the running for GOTY. And judging by how many people are putting their feet in their mouths about bias opinions, I'm the only one who read it.

I just grabbed the issue and re-scanned the article ... erm, where?

They were critical about some things, praised some things, and stated that the game really hinged on things that weren't in it yet. And of course, PGI fed them a lot of BS about the timeline of those features. For example, the "Conquest" mode ... half the things he talks about related to it aren't in the game yet but were supposed to be before that mode was (which means what they described to PC gamer most likely isn't what they're delivering to us next week).

It was a fairly upbeat article but honestly, it had to have been written before OB launch which is where a lot of things went to hell (the writer starts with "after a month of playing the closed beta" and with their lead time it had to be done in Sept at the latest). They didn't completely break hit detection until then, for example. I actually still had hope for the game back then.

In short, I don't think it was an unfair article for those reasons, and I have a lot of complaints when it comes to PGI and this game.
