I've Seen Enough Of Latest Patch To Form An Opinion

I worry that the designers don't really think about what they are introducing... just feverishly pumping out changes to keep their audience excited without an eye to their intended goal. Pretty disheartening.
The Cataphract seems like a pretty cool mech. I have the founders Atlas, so I am pretty much stuck in the short term with that chassis because of pilot skill increases. Pretty nice to only have to buy 2 mechs instead of 3. I suppose the "30% more cash" version is decent... didn't spend money on it, so I don't have a real take.
So, I'm out until I get an e-mail announcing the next patch. Have fun getting eaten by the hyenas all!

Sure it's an opinion, but rather then starting off with "ECM's are OP'ed", the OP just stated "Yea, this just isn't for me right now".
Damn, he might be coming back, can't ask him for his stuff.

However, it is still BETA, so now is the time to pull all the crazy ideas out and learn from your mistakes

I don't think so. Crazy ideas should be tested on the test server by internal testers. The artemis fiasco should have stopped there before it was moved back to the drawing board and fix.. and THEN moved into the real server after being fixed.
But it could be worse. Stuff like artemis could have been mech bucks only. In some games the devs will put out hopelessly broken op stuff you can get fast by spending rl cash so they can leech some cash before they nerf it into the ground a few weeks after, when complains has become so massive that they have to do something.
At least the devs of this game does not do that. I prefer incompetence before greed so it could be worse.
But internal testing. Quality insurance. Must be done.

For a start, they should revert everything to BT values and just work from that.

I think that the game isn't properly balanced at this point in various areas, I hope that the devs pick up on constructive feedback and don't pay any to the whiners.
What I think they really need to look at:
1. The heat system
2. Make ECM more like it is in the TT (people will be happier, trust me)
3. The Devs need to take a look at weapon behaviour again.

This might be your opinion and mine too. But think of the guys that got used to park their LRM-Boats on the next hill to their base and rofl'ed all time while just pushing the same button on the first red blip that showed up on their radar - they actually now need some (team)skill to hit anything or survive at all.

Actually the Cicada as a medium mech has one ECM variant too.
But i really can't see a problem. It is not that ECM stops anyone except LRMs from shooting at me. Lasers still hit me and ballistics stil can hit and SRMS of any kind hit too because they are short range. You just need to look out for any targets with your own eyes.
And actually you don't need an ECM mech yourself, because since the introduction of ECM the amount of LRM-Boats has significantly decreased, so you rarely run into whole LRM-FTW-teams anymore and you are still protected by your friendly ECM teammate as long as you don't wander alone.

You mean you can't stay back and just spam LRMs because you have no spotters/you need a line of sight now? Or effectively use streakcats without a second thought? Well that's really a shame
Yet I agree on the lag-shield part - it would be nice to see it fixed. Also I hope ECM will be disrupted by PPC.

So ECM shuffled all the perceived "ideas" of how MWO battles will be, so be it, so did DHS, so did Artemis, so did engine limits,so did every other piece of equipment added in game.
If things didnt change with dramatic consequence in war, we'd be riding chariots instead of mechs, fling spears and arrows instead of lasers and ballistic anti-armor rounds.
In the few years of WWII, we went from planes that did about 220mph to near, if not breaking the sound barrier(frequently with lethal consequences) in dives. We ent from tanks with measly 20mm rounds to firing 105mm. No RADAR to massive ground installations, to ships to eventually airplanes. Radial engines to jet engines. Artillery to guided missiles, both cruise and ballistic. The "game" of war changed every few months. The advantages held by one side evaporating in months.
So MWO is fine, its going to change, its going to flex, its going to force us to not get comfortable for any period of timing...thats war...man up or get off.

If that analogy translated to BT, the only two viable weapons would be a starship and a strategic submarine.
Also, we don't really develop new weapons and countermeasures, only use what the devs throw on the platter. Would be fun if we did, though.
