the two most important things on any case's functionality are psu location and air flow

putting the psu at the bottom of the case results in it being able to draw in cooler air.

and with the psu at the bottom leaves room for an exhaust fan on the top, which is especially nice for custom amd heatsinks, since they like to blow upwards when mounted,

when looking at any case, to determine air flow you want to look at the inside of the case, and try to visualize the air flow, to try and find any potential deadspots.

as far as fans go, I'm a fan of using the high pressure method since I often buy cheap cases, having more air being pumped in than removed means air is squeezing out the cracks of the case, keeping dust out of those areas and potentially insects as well. however with this method you want some fine dust filters unless you frequently clean your computer

anything after this is aesthetics and personal preference. things like buttons, front audio jacks, usb port number and type, are all up to you, and of course don't forget the obvious rice touches like led's and windows if you're into that kind of thing

with all of this said and done, investing in a small air compressor with reserve tank will save you lots of money on "canned air"

A compressor can form condensate(water) and ruin components. Just to be safe I'd stick with canned air.

Exactly what I've been looking for! Looking forward to seeing what both Razer and Ripleigh come up with, but if neither of them have something similar with a neater pricetag it looks like I'll be blowing my cash on the Warthog as I'm looking for something that will really draw me in so I feel like I'm driving a real mech.

Now we just need 3D, seats that vibrate to simulate movement in game and a new surround sound headset to finish it off!!

I am going to play MW:O when the Pitbull (clan mech, first produced in 3066) comes out am I? :)
My pc sucks and I won't be able to get another one... by sucks I mean that gameometre says my Windows XP doesn't even have anything good, it got all the wrong components and stuff like that...

I have a question about my new 9900FX motherboard:

I was thinking about purchasing a sound card today but i checked the specs in my Motherboard's manual and it says that it has a "Realtek ALC892" chip set and has 8 channels.

I hate to sound like a noob but does this mean that if i want to use my 7.1 surround sound Logitech gaming headset and experience MWO in surround sound that all i gotta do is plug in my gaming headset via USB and...that's all? I believe so but just wanted to make sure.

If it uses USB it will not function with the motherboard's sound card.

walmart has a samsung 3d 42in 120hz tv for 528. time for some mechage. also has anyone thought of trying a fresnal lens in a mech setup the flight sim guys i see using them all the time.

Hint: it's not really 120hz. Just fancy processing/interpolation. Get a nice 120hz monitor for much better response time and the silky smooth feeling of 120hz.

Someone shared this photo on my facebook news feed and had to put it here. It's an epic setup for BF3..imagine MWO or MWLL on this!

I just wanted to thank for this great thread.

Gave the author Thomas Hogarth 5 stars for this alone ;)

Hi, Mi pc works. I have 40-50 fps in 1366x768, low settings. With high settings go down to 15-20 fps.

I agree with everything except the Intel vs AMD argument - performance wise yes, but stability wise I always choose intel over amd, as in 20 years I have not had 1 Intel processor give me problems, but I have seen too many AMD's fail or have continous stability problems, and I just don't trust their MBs and CPUs. Maybe things have changed for the better, but I will remain an Intel fanboy.

I will point out on a statistical basis that AMD CPUs are no less reliable than Intel CPUs, and that in all likelihood, most of your negative experiences were simply due to bad luck.

LOL, Indeed. There's plenty of it here. I have no problem recommend both AMD and Intel, no reliability issues with modern day CPUs. The reliability issues are usually with the motherboard, power supply, drive, video card, or memory before they ever reach the CPU. :D

You should add any of the caselabs cases for those needing a plethora of modular options and a need to eliminate any disposable income. I switched after getting tired of chopping up $300+ silverstone and Lian-li cases to fit watercooling needs.

I might throw in one additional, since SFF cases are becoming much more popular now, and I'm doing a WC build based on one atm. The Bitfenix Prodigy. It's quite a bit larger than most m-ITX cases, which leave plenty of space for some pretty hardcore components. Like what I'm stuffing in mine for instance:

AsRock Z77e-itx
i5 3570 (already successfully delidded & Coolabratory Liquid Pro TIM replacing that garbage Intel used. ~using direct to die cooling)
Swiftech Apogee Drive II
Alphacool NexXxos UT-60 240mm rad w/ (2x) XSPC 120mm Xinrullian 2000 rpm
XSPC 140mm Xinrullian 1350 rpm
Phobya Extreme 200mm rad <- undecided, testing w/ the UT-60 first. Dependent on delta T w/ & w/o the gpu in the loop, then making the call on whether the 200mm is needed.
Aquaero 5 LT
Silverstone AP-181
MSI R7950 TF3 w/ Heatkiller GPU-X3 79x0
(2x) Sammie 830 128GB Raid 0
(2x) Seagate 3TB
Corsair AX-750 w/ custom built wire wire harness.

The only arguments I have w/ the Prodigy, is the somewhat flimsy feeling handles & having no cutout for the cpu backplate. Otoh concerning the handles, I don't know of anyone who's broken them (aside from one person, whose Prodigy was "NIB" and broken). Still, the matching feet (handles), do leave a little to be desired w/ stability. It's not enough to ding it for a star on the rating, but it's an area I'd like to see them improve on an otherwise awesome case.

Ok, and an alumnium version would be nice also :D

For any player out there, who are wondering if they can run the game or not, or how well it will run, follow this link to yougamers
http://www.yougamers...meometer/10528/

click on the big green tab to test your systems specs, and it will tell if you can run it or not, and if your SoL, it will tell you what needs upgradeing changeing..
Sadly your link doest work from my USB-Ubuntu 12.10 :)
as it requies WinDOOF and until I have upgraded my new PC this wount be available ...

Just scraped together my last 50€ for a used HP Compaq dc7600 Convertible Mini and want to know what is the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM for MWO

The CPU is recognized by memtest ( from Ubuntu ) as a Pentium 4 (0.09) with 2993 MHz, or Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz × 2 by Ubuntus system information, so at least the mainboard should be good enough for minimum specs ... but I need 2x 2GB DDR2 PC 5300 RAM's as it only has 1015 MB@2521MB/S
and of course I need a cheap passive cooled GPU to avoid overtaxing the 365W power supply :)

Currenty I only have the integrated GPU of the Intel i945 P/G chipset, which might not be powerfull enough for executing MWO.
There is a slot marked PCIEX16 on the mainboard, does anyone have a old spare PCI express grafic card good enough for testing MWO for me ?

MfG, MEX

For all people out there... Win 8 64bit works like a charm. And I am using a AMD 3870K APU with the integrated Radeon HD6550D Graphics @ 1280x1024 lowest details. It's not nice but it works!
