Updated due to AsRock Z77 motherboard price drops, ASUS P8Z77-V LE PLUS now takes the $175 price segment for LGA 1155.

OP very well done review. If I might add my two cents as a Warthog owner. Once the firmware is updated and make sure you do this I find it to be a very very good and reliable Hotas and the feel of it is amazing. Also it does have more buttons than you can shake a stick at. The only issue I have in MWLL with the Throttle is that it is very very sensitive.

My only real concern is that fact that games don't run in a vacuum, and I often have many other things going on in the background, potentially including some that are gaming related, such as voip, FRAPS, etc. Right now I have a 1st gen i7(920 OC'd to 3.15), and a GTX 560ti. I'm not really worried about being able to play MWO, or really anything else out there, but I'm starting to consider what my next upgrade will be.

Your CPU is fine, just upgrade your graphics as high as you can.

Why is this a sticky?

It's a sticky because the devs and forum gods have a sick fascination with multi-monitor systems and want to see yours

On that note, do you think getting a second 560Ti for an SLI configuration would be sensible, or should I just drop in a new, higher powered card?

A question to all X52 owners: What's with the "floppiness" of the stick? I've looked at quite a few reviews lately and most comment on the stick being (too) easygoing. Supposedly this got better with the X52 Pro, but some say it is still a problem. Could I get a bit of feedback from you guys who are actually playing MW (maybe even MWO?) with it? Thanks in advance :P

In most cases, it is better to get a single, faster card. A geforce GTX 670, or Radeon HD 7970 would probably be your best bet if you have the budget. With the Radeon HD 7970 only coming $30 more than the cheapest 670 now, and coming with 3 games, if you don't already have those 3 games, and don't have a preference in companies, it is probably the better buy. Or if you use GPGPU or overclock your GPU. If you need a low power draw system however, the 670 is of course the way to go.

I have a chance to pick up either a x52 pro for $50 or a hotas couger for $100 does anyone recommend one or the other based on those prices and the quality of those products?

7/19/2012 update.

Anyone else think this should be pinned?

CPU really isn't a concern for (most) gaming. If you spend a good 150 dollars in the CPU then you're probably set no matter if you choose Intel or AMD. Just pour as much money as you possibly can into GPU.

Hey OP, can you put another misconception on there? That faster clock speeds don't necessarily mean faster CPUs, or for that matter GPUs? What matters more now a days is the archatecture, controller, and a whole bunch of other factors. Just because an old Celeron D can be pushed over the moon and beyond in terms of clock speed doesn't necessarilly mean that its the best processor out there.

Koudou: very true on the clock vs architecture bit

Vulpes: I was leaning toward the 670 already, since I've had better luck with NVidia in the past

this is quite true, however I haven't been hearing it so much of a heavy misconception as of late, however I think I will add it anyhow at some point soon.

As it is, AMD has been doing very well in the driver department lately, far more so than ATI ever did. But, in the end there won't be much of a performance difference, although in my personal opinion the 7970 is a better value overall.

hey, I don't want them pinned for my sake, But for the sake of those who want answers quickly and don't necessarily want to start a new thread. Besides, otherwise I have to keep bumping them to keep them visible for newbies.

Bought the FLY 5 and within 2 days about 3/4 of all the buttons on the stick itself were already broken.
Even the stick you can move with your thumb that is normally used to look around the cockpit only worked in 1 direction.

Just when i send it back they send an e-mail saying that my money will be refunded (normally they look for a new one but it looks like they are all out).

I haven't tried the x52pro but I have a cougar. The cougar is a nice stick for flight sims but its a bit on the stick side for something like MWO. I used Thrustmaster setups from the most basic FCS to the FLCS to the F22pro. Just my opinion but I think you wouldn't like the stiff feeling of a Cougar for a game like MWO. At its roots MWO is a first person shooter in a mech and twitch reflexes are important.

+1 for the saitek x52 Pro, great joystick, don't know if I'll end up using it for MWO over a mouse.

Also a great right up about joysticks, I've been using them for years and did't know a lot of the stuff posted here.
