Banshee: 2nd option.
Zeus: 3rd (the most iconic Steiner Assault mech).
Victor: 4th (different Assault approach)
Highlander = best mech in the list, but rare (and except for the jump jets, with a very similar load out of the Atlas).
Marauder II = WT?????

I know they are uncommon (Wolf Dragoons only), but you have to do it right.

But overall, the Cyclops for the very reason that everyone's been saying so far. It's the premier command mech.

It's nominally a command mech but it needs an advantage for that (maybe the so called advanced electronics) - otherwise it is just a bad assault mech.

The Charger, Victor, and Zeus are unfortunately the same tonnage as the Awesome, so it doesn't seem like they'll be coming soon. Same goes for Thug and its clone, the Hatamoto-chi.
The game does not need a Jumping Atlas (aka Highlander) just yet, no matter how great it would look. The King Crab would be nice, but its loadout really makes it kind of a niche 'Mech. The Marauder II is a munchkin machine, and oh that's right, it's Unseen.
The Mauler, while interesting, is far more rare than the Stalker and will stay that way. Also, the Devastator (100-tonner not listed in the poll) isn't just a munchkin machine, it's a munchkin machine inserted into the universe as a retcon likely for some Mary Sue fan-made character.
The Banshee...could use melee combat implemented to make it more interesting, if not simply just to prevent its stock loadout from becoming a joke. It's got an amazing amount of room for customization though, as both past and recent record sheets have shown.
The Stalker might actually pose a problem for those just getting into the game. Its main focus as a BattleMech isn't readily obvious. Yes, TT players, some people aren't smart enough to figure out bracket fire for themselves, and I'm sure a lot of players will complain that "it sucks because it doesn't have enough [Double] Heat Sinks".
So yeah, to jump on the bandwagon, the Cyclops, if it does what it's supposed to do, would round out the game nicely as intended by the developers.

I chose the Highlander though. I like 95 ton jumping mechs. We need a mech in that class.

If we don't get any unseen/reseen mechs then the Thug/Hatamoto-chi are great substitutes for the old stalwart duel PPC mechs that are missing.
Plus the Highlander burial DFA

Hatomo-chi: This is a T1 Thug with a different look. Meh... AWS-8Q is better, much better.
Thug: T1 Thug is the same for stats and looks meaner. AWS-8Q is much better. The T2 has DHS and CASE and is a solid mech, AWS is still better.
Victor: This is a great mech. Jumping AC/20... T2 makes it a juming Gauss rifle.
Zeus: Solid mech but the AC/5 is under gunned. The upgrade with a PPC makes this a real solid mech.
Katana/crockett: Meh... just not fond of the payload. But will have good slots to modify it in the lab.
Cyclops: Not a bad mech, but not great. Some Hvs can out damage it.
Highlander: Stupid mech. It Tries to do every thing but doesn't have the payload to do it. T2 means it is better. But still suffers from lack of focus.
Banshee: Same as Charger, no melee really rods the BNC-3E of it's power. The LC variant that slows it down makes it a real nightmare to fight. T1 or T2, look for the LC variants and get the lance of Victors.
Mauler/dobaku: Lots of long range. If min ranges are in... will lose to an HBK pilot that can work in close. With a min range problem most lights have a good chance of killing this thing one on one.
King Crab: If you use it, get some more ammo. Expect to have LRMs rained on you since straight on combat is less effective.
Marauder II : Junk. Get the other Dragoon 100 mech. The Imp. The Imp out performs the Marauder II
Stalker: This is a great mech. Control your heat and you can do massive damage at all ranges. LRMs, Large and Medium lasers, and SRMs. If arm flipping is in you can't get out of the arc of fire. It does what a Highlander SHOULD. Only down side. No jump. The Torpedo with legs is one of the best salt mechs of 3050 in the IS.
I vote Stalker. Highlander has cooler name and the fans... but the Stalker lays out more damage and has better heat control. After that it is the Mauler. Mauler has better long range and the paired large lasers can deal some damage closer in.

That said, I think either the Highlander or the Stalker will be Assault number 3 given the more forgiving nature of their base designs and how iconic they were.
