I hope MWO is not region locked because my GB unit has people from all over the world and we all play together

And here is the problem: you can interact and talk to anyone in the globe, but what happen, when a battle begin? There is the problem! One server in the whole globe is cannot provide low latency for everyone, and who has lower latency, have a bit better chances against who have larger latency...

:P
Your not playing any battles on one server as i just said. The Metagame is one server (Think the star map) when battles are launched the Matchermaker places you onto a game server which can be in whichever region you so selected at start up.
Not sure how i can make that any easier to interpret.

Won't agree. You can play with US players, if you create your Mechwarrior and your Merc Corp in the US server. You can play against anyone, who play in the US server. If you wan't to play lesser pings, and EU players, then create an another Mechwarrior in the EU server.

Actually i find this method a very balanced one.

Some people see beyond pings and latency as excuses some people are just better and more so than tenths of seconds can change, many people already have friends across the globe from previous games (clearly you do not) why should anyone have to grind out two characters, where there are easier options that enhance the user experience of everyone.

I can only believe you are reading that people are saying you must play on US servers giving you bad pings, and that is not what anyone in this thread is saying quite the opposite infact give players the choice without the penalties.

The only reason to region lock is motivated by money, both expenditure and income.

Again, i understand what you write, but i hardly believe it's can be done, or perhaps better to say: the PG wanna take this extra work on their back. If they willing to do, then no problem...

As i say: if the PG can solve this situation, to satisfy both camp, then i'm fine.

But i'm curious: when you have friends around the globe, why do you care about to play a lower ping server? Why do you simply won't play along with your friends on the US (or whatever) server? The latency cannot be a problem for you, as you describe... :P

Which is a big one, aside the technical problems (i believe your kind of solution needed much more work from the PG, than the separated, but not region locked server solution).

No, they will not, as we are split into several servers.

For the EVE-Quote: It's just dumb to argue about"it's one server",every "server" is a rig, as noone has one. To clarify it for you, it means ALL players are playing on ONE world. So basically what we just want.

I made no EVE-Quote, but thank you for putting words in my mouth and assuming I have no idea the difference between a server and an instance or shard of the meta-game, even though I clearly spelled out which I was talking about (divergent instances of the meta-game) in my post.

It can be done, and has been done in similar fashion by a console game some years back that had a multiplayer content across 1 metagame map but battles were fought on shards/servers, this game also had a matchmaker i beleive that first attempted to match your fights against other players from your region and if it couldn't find any expanded the search cross globe.

I don't care about lower pings as stated i have happily played MW4 for the last decade with pings from 300 and below its nothing new,the problem with region lock as discussed on the first page and Bel described it even further (i guess you missed it).
To play soley on a US server means i consign myself to playing every day between US peak times 8EST onwards that translates to 1AM onwards.
Then in addition to this if i have further European friends who do not wish to use US servers i am again cut off from them.

Not everyone is in their teenage years anymore where they have 10 hours a day to spend grinding games.

By allowing people to change region on the fly, they can play cross globe as and where they can (read days off and weekends/Holiday from work) without having to grind a second time to partake and actually be useful.

Edit (Off to work so no more replies from me for a bit)

I have doubts about it... :P

In other words: do you have friends, who thinking as i'm?

And about the "region-jumping": it's a bit problematic, when try to plan what kind of server-park do you need to serve the players, if they play sometimes in the US, and sometime in the EU servers. Even is i believe it's not the majority of the player base, who request of this kind of freedom...

I'm impressed with your perseverance here, DV.

Cifu, we're clearly talking about neither EVE nor CoD. The best system for the players is a pretty simple one; universal metagame with regional servers and anytime switching between those regional servers. I have no idea how you've managed to make such a long and pointless argument when it doesn't appear that you even disagree with that.

Check #70 again please. I'm started to point out the comparison of the EVE is not a valid one. Then McKenna react to my answer.

And again: i can live what McKenna suggested, but i still believe it's more difficult to build up (so need more resources from PG to make it) and maintain (because then the PG/IGP need to got serverparks in every region) than the regular separated region servers version.

So in short as i see the normal version has:
-Much easier to programmed.
-The regional servers can be provided by third party. (Yes, i know, we don't know how the regions are planned to provided yet, so there is a chance as IGP wan't to cover all the regions, create separate IGP EU, IGP Oceanic, etc. subsidiary...)

The best option in my opinion would be like the old MSN Gaming Zone was you logged on then went into a huge chat room to find all your pals then you all launched into game play. That way everyone can communicate recruit new players and drop for team games and practice etc etc.The old MSN Gaming Zone was the best it helped millions of players enjoy the game more and promoted team play from wherever you were from around the world.I would say promote the free to play on steam which they probably will do because there are so many people that will try the game out.I really don't like there lobby's though or there voice chat system. But without communication teams cannot form and practice or get set up for ladder type matches that promote challenges and rewards. The old leagues were meant for players to compete and have fun and that meant players from all over the world competed 24/7 on there time zones to win a championship for there faction and teams. It would be a shame not to set up the new game this way so all players from around the world can have the same excitement and fun together in a competitive way it was what in my opinion made the old on line portion of mechwarrior worth playing and what made it a great on line game. :P

There is also the language barrier. I've noticed Russians playing on the NA WoT server, and in several games there were pretty deep conversation going in global chat. Surprisingly, all the non-Russian speakers were hit by artillery right away or ambushed. Kind of like... they knew where we were...

Call me paranoid, but exploiting to pad kills/wins has been around forever. Throwing in people who can't or refuse to speak the primary language into the mix generally causes problems. The only way to enforce a common language is by region locking. Of course, the EU is gonna get screwed in that one.

My answer for the eve-quote was not directed to you especially but rather to all people that hung on the one-server thing. I was just to lazy to quote some post about it and wrote "for the eve-server thingy" infront.

Region lock wouldn't help with this issue either, as i doubt everyone on us-server talks spain, everyone on asia talks japanese etc.
And if we're all forced (literally) to join the us-server to play all people we want than this would be also gotten away, as you cannot simply ban a language.

Australia and New Zealand, as well as some of our close-ish neigbors (PNG, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore)

Would greatly appreciate having some servers down here in Kangarooland.

Tho, unlike some games, im unsure if "locking is in" to a select region would be a good thing to do, as im unsure on how popular Mechwarrior is for us Aussies. The ability to jump between local, and US servers would be a godsend (that and for matters of conflict, we'd need to be able to kick you yank's ***** on your own servers just to rub it in more, as i swear you'll complain about the ping if you jumped on our aussie servers :D )

I don't see why region locking is even needed. You can just have one global server and the matchmaking can pair you with the closest people unless you otherwise specify that you want to play with a friend.
