You'll overheat. A lot. Because you'll start out in a trial mech. That's right, you don't get to start with a mech that you own. You instead get to "try" 4 different mechs with reduced earnings. At least you don't have to pay repair costs though. But back to the overheating, heat is a lot bigger issue in this game. The trial Jenner has 4 medium lasers and an SRM4 with 10 heatsinks. You'll be lucky to fire your lasers twice! The Trial Hunchback has I think the best heat efficiency. "best" being relative to all the others. See that Awesome? You will overheat from a single alpha strike. Heck, you'll just about overheat firing your 3 x ERPPCs once.
That is of course, if you can even properly get into a match. There's the crash out upon loading bug, 4FPS bug, the yellow-filled HUD bug, etc.
Good luck hitting light mechs. If it weren't hard enough already, the netcode is fairly bad and you won't actually be hitting them when you think you do.
Would you like to own your own mech? Of course you would! How about a nice stock (read: terrible) Commando? You can get one after you play 30+ battles in terrible trial mechs.
This is just an abbreviated list. Yes, we are aware that this is beta. However, with the lack of features and the game-crippling bugs, it feels more like it should still be in alpha. The ridiculous price for MC (the real-money paid currency) and the cashgrab for holiday items, paint, and hero mechs is also a sore point.

For some, the joy of piloting a Mech is enough. For those with standards it isn't. MWO's development is slow, behind schedule, rushed and ill planned, but I guess you can't expect much more from a developer whose past titles have all been bargain bin games. Features are implemented as quasi-placeholders and never improved, the new player experience is... brutal, and PGI's plans to improve it are a laugh. Mech balance is non-existent; 127kph Nano-Lights are the name of the game, ECM decides matches.

Beta doesn't mean what it should mean these days. Most beta phases in games can easily, and simply, be labelled demonstrations.

Play it. And if you have fun continue to do so.
If it becomes boring, stop playing, and join us in becoming emotionally attached to a game which we want to improve and spend your remaining free gaming hours spreading pessimism and gloom to all new players that come aboard and creating passive aggressive Russ Bullock's ex-girlfriend toned threads.

It's a lot better when playing with other people though. There are a few Teamspeak 3 servers up and you can play in 4-man premade groups. See the second post in this thread: http://mwomercs.com/...e-chat-servers/

beta synonyms: dubious, experimental, flaky, mostly working, new, pre-release, suspect, testing, unready
it seems in this case the SYNONYMS more clearly describe not only the game, but the company who is currently mismanaging it. They started with a HUGE budget, a small crew and have dug a hole so deep and dark they can't seem to find up. All from a distinct lack of planning and management. Thats what happens when you get a couple "die hard" gamers who are better players than planners and people surrounding them who are apparently afraid of their own shadows.
The game has all the problems listed above but can be saved, yet it seems they are doing their best to dash for cash, hang on for a catastrophe or the end of the world (hopefully just for the first of the year and a couple new folks on the pay-roll). If they STOP all the nonsense now and START working, it will turn around. Either way only die hard mech warrior fans will stick around to find out as there are enough alternatives out there to placate the masses for now

Welcome to the community, as vile, self-deluded, and absorbed as any you'll see. . . I'd recommend getting on TS3 and learning from those folks as it seems we'll never see a real series of tutorials or in game exercises for the newer player to maneuver in order to learn the game and read a lot on the forums but make sure you aren't prone to depression or bouts of rage as reading these forums are subject to one or the other eventually

It's that the experience is, from start to finish, completely unenjoyable.
You get a selection of 4 stock Variant Mechs to choose from, but you can't customize them at all. And PGI has designed the game, and specifically the Heat System, so that anything remotely close to a stock build is basically dead weight. Heat capacity is enormous, heat dissipation rates incredibly slow. So you'll basically end up shooting two or three times, then spending the next 10 seconds cooling down (in reality you're going to shut down probably at least once every 60 seconds). Of course, PGI's grand "solution" is simply to give 2x C-Bills for your first 25 matches, completely oblivious to the fact that without customization there's absolutely no point to C-Bill earnings until you've purchased your first Mech -- all in-game money earned up to that point may as well be a timer counting down the number of games you must play before you get access to the game proper.
Then there's the lagshield, aka netcode issues aka hit detection. Basically, even under ideal conditions, 1/2 of your shots will do no damage when they hit things. You can walk right up to an Atlas and plow him in the face 3 times with a Gauss rifle and never do a shred or iota of damage. The problem is made worse the faster something moves; this has created a generation of Call of Duty-style Light Mech dominance where 130kph Light Mechs pretty much own the battlefield, weaving in and out of enemy Mech formations while barely taking damage.
In the past, the only consistent way to defend against these guys was to use SSRMs because they lock on. But then PGI in its infinite and infallible wisdom decided to introduce ECM -- a piece of equipment weighing only a ton (and a half?) that effectively makes SSRMs completely useless, and can only be countered by other ECM.
So if you're looking to relive the glory of past Mechwarrior games, PGI has a long, long, long, long way to go -- if they were even heading that direction.

ill mess with it more after work an give it another chance, but this will not be my main game of play by the looks of it,
make mw what it deserves to be, and ill be a lifetime monthly sub like i was in wow!
now i wouldn't pay for any credits just on the graphics, ever herd of texture?, remember running over trees and watching/hearing them break? Environment Detail MAKES A GAME! we don't buy top of the line pc's to have games look like this.
as for my beta comment, for as long as this game has been open beta id think that those points would be known, you would chase off clientele with a bad looking game!
Call it my review, sorry if i was expecting to much, could be i was, but i thought a company that wrote video games knew this, not just the players.
overall
sad so see a legend die, ive seen better mech knockoffs in minigames of games

Your optimism crumbles too easily. It took mine 6 months.

Realized the game isn't that great: 11:56 PM
1 hour 1 minute. Thus, the problem is laid bare.
