Get Ready To Target Nothing But Side Torsos...

We're going to see the swarms rush to dump an XL in their rides because they won't have to pay the price of dying with them, so get in the habit of sniping those torsos, driving all those new players they "attracted" with this feature removal to the forums to complain about how easy it is to die with and XL engine, forcing the devs to respond, changing the game further, pandering to the masses that will ditch this game when a new COD hits the shops.
You may go about your business.

Check the Economy thread in the command chair. Part of the changes is the complete removal of all repair and rearm costs.

I have never fitted an XL, cos I lose a torso every couple of matches.

And that is why nothing will change in the use of XL's. They are risky to use...not because of cost, but because its NO FUN dying.

So what if people run xl engines now and they don't need to pay repair costs? There are downsides to the things outside of cost, and balancing on $$$ is a horrible way to balance because it works in favor of those with deep pockets. This change is for the better because it'll force equipment to be balanced on its merits instead of on some arbitrary cost.

You just lost 1/4 your heart, how does that make you feel?
Clan you lose only 1/5, they can still function but at a massive detriment, same with light fusion engines.

He isn't complaining, he is saying that side torso are going to become much more viable directed targets than CT on custom mechs due to use of xl engines.

...I would get a kick out of watching the forums explode over that.

I doubt it. The choice between XL and regular has never been about the repair cost for me. I will not throw an XL into a Hunchback because the hunched torso is too big of a target and there is not enough armor.

Yep and watch them alienate new players and old alike, thus dooming this game due to bad decisions.

The only XL I got is the one that came in my 3L, and I see no reason to use it. Ferro Fibrious already ate his extra slots and won't kill me for using it. It's already down to 2 slots with DHS/Endo/Ferro. No need for an XL. Bigger Mechs might have 6 extra slots, but not 14 for Ferro, but still, I'd rather just sit on the slots. I'm not going to die sooner every match just for a few extra tons of weight.

You die when your engine dies. An XL engines spills into the side torso because that's the downside of the advanced tech.
Lighter weight engine. More chance of the engine taking a hit to criticals when it's exposed.
Some people are forgetting the lure of an engine that will let newer players pack more weapons and ammo onto their mech.
Target those torsos. You'll be getting some awesome pops.
