Paint schemes/cammo patterns I can see being per-mech, but when you have to pay real cash for a color, it should be permanent, and available account wide. In other words, they should function exactly the same as the PC Gamer Skin colors. Then I would probably buy 9-10 colors to put across my mechs.
I have 14 mechs - I've already dumped real cash to get the slots to hold them - adding additional cost to paint them is laughable - and unless I find a mech that I know for a fact I'll be keeping - and playing a lot - I see no reason to buy any colors under the current system.
That being said, I highly doubt PGI intends to alter the system as they seem intent on draining every nickel they can from the player base before they get fed up and leave. IE: see overly expensive cockpit trinkets.
PGI is being excessively greedy in their economic model - considering I can't even see my own paint scheme in game - tell me again what my incentive is to spend real cash on anything temporary. A much better system from a player standpoint (and likely a business standpoint as well) - would be to charge only cbills for paint colors - but charge MC for cammo specs and decals. Then I would be hard pressed to care less that they are temporary at all.

This being said, they should not ever change from this model once the product is finished because it allows them to extract every last drop of revenue from the player base.

I would have less of a problem if the definition of the nickle wasn't $5 and the dime $10.
I will pay $$$ for unlocking colors, decals and patterns on my account and they can keep publishing new colors and patterns and decals. How about that? Seems fair and sustainable. The current pay to spray is insane for those of us who want to redo often and across many mechs. I will pay you PGI, but give me a break. In fact, I've been dropping $$$ and stocking MC just to make my point.

Renting paints is just... I don't know. I'd gladly pay for colours if I were able to reuse them. GLADLY!
I'd convince my Merc Corp as well.

world of tanks system is pretty much exactly the same yet thers no where near the whinging as here
ive painted some of my mechs , did it month ago , they still magicially have their paint jobs they dont dissapear.
the ppl that are problably whinging aboot this are the ppl that still only have the 4 free mechbays .
if pgi make it so that paint is a once off payment and then you can magically use it for every mech you ever buy in the future
this game will die in months and noone will be playing , they need to have some kind of continual revenue.
simple solution, buy an extra few garage slots, when you buy different version of a mech to get all the bonus's, dont paint that one, or the next one. once you got yah basic bonuses you have the 3 variants and can get all the bonuses. all the while you might have a fav variant (THAT is the one you paint and keep)

this is how many players feel.

buddy i think your confusing limited consumer spending with unlimited consumer spending. if i did not have a limit on my spending, then of course the current system makes the most money but but but most of us have limits. most of us are also conscious spenders that like to make informed decisions (we want some bang for our buck)
for arguement sake its $1 per paint.
-now at the current state, alot of people will only buy one paint set per mech because changing will lose you your existing paint = $3dollars per mech. (limited conscious spender)
-with op's plan, alot of people are willing to buy more then 3 paints, one additional paint spending at total of $4. some people want to buy every color on certain mechs, that would boost the revenue up to $12 per mech (that is on default scheme only)
do you see what im getting at? there are so many reasons why player would want to buy more paints eg. im playing with my friends so i feel like being TEAM PINK HUNCHIES or today im dropping with my clan so its our clan colors and some just like to play dress up.
currently there are only three things you can keep in this game, the extra exp you gain from premium time, cockpit items and mech bays; everything else is disposable. paints should be added to the keep list.
i really want a set of all blue and all white paints but i refuse to pick one or the other because i would lose one or the other. thats a easy $6 per mech and i know there are plenty of others just like me.

how is it free if i use MC????
as of right now i choose not to buy paints because they can not get reused = no money "no continual stream of revenue"
if i could reuse the paints, i would have more then 2-3 colors = money!!
if pgi wants a "continual stream of crash" all they need to do is come out with more colors and more patterns. an example, in a game like league of legends you are allowed to keep the different skin on any character. some characters have up to +10 skins and alot of people buy them all.
you must tell me how does one get a continual stream of revenue if the consumer refuses to spend? currently there is NO upside to spending more cash on paint.
im not filthy rich and i refuse to pay to repaint my mech in a damn virtual world.
op(me) should of made it more clear, purchase/keeping one paint per mech not one paint for all mechs.

Yeah but think of it like this:
When you were a kid and had access to mommy's money did you really care about how much stuff cost? Its not till you move out on your own and have a car payment, rent, utilities, etc that you realize income is finite. People who havent done that yet, just vant get the message. They havent gotten there yet.
