i've looked through some other models...like centurion, atlas, tbolt and locust...but couldn't find any issues with the ".cdf-assembled" models, combared to the scale models in the light of the findings with the catapult-scale
to be honest...i rather prefer the old cockpit of the catapult-scale.obj, than the more streamlined one in the current model...the whole cockpit looks more to scale

As far as legality goes, their models have been available to everyone that has the skill to extract them. If there were serious legal issues then something would've been done by now.
The use of these models is for non-commercial use only and if that's put on a checkbox agreement or a README file in the download then I believe that would suffice.
But if you're using the extraction process as a filter for those without the desire or abilities (which doesn't seem to be) then I suppose the number of people who could misuse the files would be decreased?

I don't want to jeopardize the thread (or my game account for that matter) by distributing .blend files of the models. Besides, having access to the .blend file without knowledge on how to use Blender really doesn't do anyone any good. I've made it as easy as possible to do this, and made some pretty nifty tutorial videos as well. Just a couple of intro courses of Blender at cgcookie.com/blender and an hour of watching the tutorial video, and then not only will someone have their own .blend files, but they'll have the knowledge needed to actually do something with them.
There is a significant legal difference between telling someone how to access the files, and providing them directly. Just not worth the risk.

When it comes to breaking the main stuff down for those of us that want to play with this, you and several others in the thread have done an amazing job. Please do not get discouraged by those wanting what you are not comfortable providing.

i almost mistook it for detail plastic with black primer, the amount of detail is very good for metal!
and can you see the "gap" in the back?
did your model even have the gap? (still wondering if it is only a mistake on my side xD)

It is slightly uneven in the back, like in the picture you showed. It's really unnoticeable unless you're specifically looking for it.
You shouldn't have a printing error because of it though.
Here's a pic of the back. The camera is at a slight angle towards the mech's rear:

think it came out well - in retrospect i might have put more work into it than it would have been necessary
funny thing is...i even thickened the mgs...and they are still very very small xD
stands on its own, and is 42mm tall
will prime and paint it, as soon as i have everything together for a little display case i'm making for my shelf
size comparison to a 4x i printed earlier
raven is 38mm tall and was to test my "skills"...that's why the torso sideplates are removed, and the mgs are not mgs, but in fact mirrored doubles of the lasers
since then i've learned a lot lot lot with blender - it makes a lot of fun but is time consuming :/
i think the result is well for the fact, that i would never have thought to be able to learn working with blender
i simply love MWO for the beauty of the mechs they reimagined for us
and thanks for the great tutorial!

The new small PPC's look a bit puny for how large the ears are, but that's all subjective.
No love for the missile ears? seems most people like to print the K2s.
