Why do I feel this will get ECM available to use?

I hope so <_<

I'm not super wild about arm-mounted missiles, but with an arm lock key I could actually see this puppy doing some damage as a fast mini-DDC. Or maybe you could just go speed + ECM + streaks and run it like the DDC and 3-L's fat baby.

Well, the ON1-V-DC carries (at least) one missile launcher in each arm and (at least) one missile launcher in the Left Torso.

By contrast, the ON1-M carries (at least) one missile launcher in the Left Arm, (at least) one missile launcher in the Left Torso, and (at least) one missile launcher in the Center Torso.

In terms of potential loadouts (and assuming minimum hardpoints), there isn't much difference with regard to SRMs or Streak SRMs.
However, the ON1-V-DC would be much more capable of boating the larger LRM launchers (e.g. triple LRM-15, Triple LRM-20) that wouldn't fit in the ON1-M's CT location, making the former a more-powerful long-range missilier.

On the other hand, the ON1-M has a "zombie"/"stick" combat capability that the ON1-V-DC wouldn't have as a result of the CT-mounted launcher (e.g. LRM-5, SRM-2, SSRM-2, or SRM-4 - plus ammo - in the CT slots... or SRM-6 or LRM-10 (or multiples of the smaller launchers) in the CT and ammo in the Head).

Yeah, a zombie ECM/streak platform seems like it might be effective ;)

*cue MechWarrior 3 fangasm or something similar*

Hands down, the Orion was my most favorite IS Mech of Mech3. Fun times when I had to put on LRM-5s with MLs and an AC-10 (otherwise I went dual LB-10X for good measure).

I would like to go toe to toe with an Atlas in an Orion. (Not an Annihilator, quad-ACs or quad PPCs scare the crap out of me.)

The loadout looks similiar, regarding placement on energy hardpoints in the arms, Missiles in 1 side torso, and a Ballistic in the other, yes... kinda baby-atlas.

Hm i also remenber a version with a drum-like SRM4 in the left arm...

Though, with the Devs' statement about placing ECM in its own hardpoint (similar to AMS), it is unlikely that such an ON1-M implementation would still have an ECM suite by the time it got to a zombie/stick state... :(

I hope the Kyudo is then also released after the Orion. I like the Age of War Mechs.

actually the Flea is delayed until after the Blackjack and Orion, probably because MASC isn't ready

April: Highlander
May: Blackjack
June: Orion

that's all that is confirmed. soonest we'll be getting the Flea is July.

Did you hear this only on the NGNG podcast, or is there anything about this delay of the Flea somewhere on the Forum? I would be very interested to see an official announcement about that, if one exists.

I posted a question about "if we can expect a heavy mech able to carry ECM" to the newest ATD. I hope they will select that question. (They did select my last one, so I'm not so sure about that.)

So, back to potential variants...

ON1-K - "standard variant", available since 2456
x2 Medium Lasers (LA, RA)
x1 LRM-15 (LT)
x1 SRM-4 (LT)
x1 AC/10 (RT)

ON1-V - available since 2799
x2 Medium Lasers (LA, RA)
x1 LRM-15 (LT)
x2 SRM-4 (LA, RA)
x1 AC/10 (RT)

ON1-V-A - available since 2901
x2 Medium Lasers (LA, RA)
x2 SRM-4 (LA, RA)
x1 AC/10 (RT)

ON1-V-DC - available since 2913
x2 Medium Lasers (LA, RA)
x1 LRM-15 (LT)
x2 SRM-4 (LA, RA)
x1 AC/10 (RT)
x1 Command Console

ON1-M - available since 3049
x2 Medium Lasers (LA, RA)
x1 LRM-20 (LA)
x1 SRM-4 (LT)
x1 Narc Beacon Launcher (CT)
x1 LB 10-X AC (RT)
x2 CASE (LT, RT)

Personally, I'm hoping that we get the ON1-K, ON1-V-DC, and ON1-M.
Optionally, the ON1-V could also be included.
The ON1-V-A could be created from the ON1-V in the MechLab by removing the LRM launcher and adding armor.

Potential Hero characters include:
  • MechWarrior Sylvan Greenspan (Wolf's Dragoons; 'Mech named "Phoenix")
  • Colonel Tomaso Kinchurhara (1st Regulan Hussars)
  • MechWarrior Yvonne Morticia (Team Banzai; 'Mech named "Lurch")
  • Paula "Lady Death" Trevaline ("Pirate Queen of the Tortunga Dominion" and "Dame Murderess Extraordinaire")
  • Theodore Kurita (heir to the Coordinator of the Draconis Combine; started his career in a restored Orion named "Revenant")
  • Alexandr Kerensky (last commanding-general of the original SLDF; used a special variant)
Thoughts?

Also, it should be noted that each Orion variant except the OM1-M starts with a STD 300 Engine; the ON1-M starts with a 300 XL Engine.
With the 1.2x Engine Rating Cap for Heavy 'Mechs, the all of the Orion variants would be limited to a maximum engine rating of 360 and a base top speed (that is, without modules, quirks, and efficiencies) of 76.32 kph.

Thoughts?

The only thing that truly irks me about the Orion is the fact that I'll have to spend so much time grinding C-bills for it after I buy my Blackjacks. I expected to have a free month to grind out all the C-bills I needed for both with the Flea. But that was pushed back so UP YOURS PGI!

Luckily I never really loved the Blackjack, so I'll only buy 1 to start. But for my Orion withdrawls I'm thinking of rigging a Jagermech with the ON1-K loadout to tide me over.

It'd be fitting if the Orion (my favorite mech) came out on June 18th because that's my birthday!

Time to start saving C-Bills!

I have one month to get roughly 40k XP on two Highlander Variants before this comes out (so I can have 3 mastered). Then it will be Orions everywhere. I am skipping over the Black Jack much like I did the JagerMech. Can't wait. Hope they announce the 5th Assault soon.

Its like milton keyes with lasers..

Unimaginative, but everyone knows about it

its going to be in my bays later rather than sooner, victor comes first, but it will be a toss up between eliting highlanders or buying orions
