I used to play MW2 and MW3 back in the day, but no real experience since then.
I'm currently running a Hunchback 4sp loaded with:
LRM-15+Artemis
2 med lasers
2 med pulse lasers
AMS
Dbl heatsinks
FF Armor
My heat seems ok, and I do alright in survivability when mobile, but my take down ability seems lacking.
I'm considering 2 LRM-10, losing the AMS (seems semi useless).
Any general thoughts?

Engine: STD 255
15 DHS
SRM6 x 2
Medium Laser x2
Small Laser x 2
3 tons SRM ammo

but I use:
4 med las
2xLRM10+Artemis (4t ammo)
ES
16 DHS
std 200 Engine
ES gives you more tonnage for the crits, so it is better than FF IMHO.
My short range alternative uses
2 SRM6 (2t ammo) instead of LRMs
and a std 250 engine

My build:
Standard 245
2 SRM6 + Artemis
4 ML
1 SL
DHS (not sure how many off the top of my head)
ES
The head laser is too good to not use. Even if you only put a small laser in it, small lasers are pretty much the most tonnage efficient weapon in the game (in terms of both damage and heat).
It seems like a waste to use the best brawler Hunch variant for LRMs.

Here's mine:
Artemis
Endo Steel
255 Std. Engine
AMS + 1 ton ammo
15 DHS
2 x SRM4
1 x Small Laser
4 x Med. Laser
- It goes 90.9 kph with the speed perk. Speed + reasonable Alpha = Win.
I used the guide in the link below to benchmark it.

It's fast and packs a massive punch.

SRMs are the way to go on that bad boy. I use 2 SRM6 with artemis and 5 Mlas, with DHS and Endo.

don't try to mix mlas & mplas. you're better off going 4x one or the other
endosteel gets you more free tonnage for the same crits. only use FF if you still have 14 crits after dhs & es

I like not dying. So I use the biggest standard engine possible, a 260 that came standard in a catapult. Endosteel and double heat sinks give me the tonnage to run 5 medium lasers (arms on group 1, head on group 2) with necessary heat dissapation and a pair of steak batteries with a ton of ammo each to smack around lights or add on damage to heavier mechs.
Don't try to go toe to toe with a bigger mech with this build like you might with the stock 200 engine version with the SRM6s. Circle them at full speed, bleeding away their armor with the streaks and exploiting the holes with well aimed laser shots.

With a 170 engine and an LRM20 shooting out of 6 missile tubes? *sigh* cdlord, haven't you ever wondered why your LRM 20 fires in 4 volleys? lol

Personally, I run:
STD 260
5x MLas
2x SSRM 2's (with 2 tons of ammo)
8 DHS
Endo Steel
1.27 Heat Efficiency
320/338 Armour
35 Firepower
Goes over 90 kph after Speed Tweak. This thing is wonderful for chasing down scouts or for flanking around and taking the rear armour off Heavies and Assaults.

I prefer to use the 250 engine since I do not see a benefit in equipping a 260.

I liked to use LRM20 on a location if 1 missle tube. I looks hillarious and is like a tracking device for mechs

If you want my build for my 4SP, it's 2 ML, 2LL, 2STR. Typically, I fire my LL 300-450m, and just spam ML/STR at <300m. If my streaks are unable to fire, then I just fire the LLs too. You could also use the racks for what they were actually made for though, and slot 2x SRM 6s. SRMs are similar to LBX, and scatter shots at close range. The damage isn't bad for their light weight.
Edit: Guy above me basically has my build, except that mine has a 230 engine with less DHS and 1 less ML.

You shouldn't fit streaks on non-ecm mechs, as your most likely target with be ECM lights that will jam you and make it so you can't use them.
There are not enough tubes in the shoulders of the SP to make running LRM's a good idea, Run the J if you are going to do that, especially if you are only fitting one LRM pod. People suggesting 2xSRM 6 and lasers are smart people you should listen to, the SP is a brawler not a missile boat.
