Happy holidays everyone.

Well it's been quite the year and it's hard to believe that just over a year ago there wasn't a line of code or single process in place for MechWarrior Online.

Holy crap, I did not know this. I hope Santa brings you guys something special, you earned it.

Matt, I am fairly certain that 4fps bug is caused by a resource leak somewhere - it's not random (at least for me), always happens after a few hours of play without restarting the client, and can only be fixed by a client restart.

Just my $0.02 ^_^

I applaud the effort to communicate to the players. However, there is a lot of talk about "the long term." If it's obvious to the devs, it should be obvious to the players that this game needs around another year of beta.

Entire Command Chair post can be summarized thusly:

Quote

Stuff is broken. We know stuff is broken. We don't know why stuff is broken yet. We are trying to find better ways to figure out what is broken.

Bear with us.

I can fight against black/yellow screens by launching in windowed mode, I can restart client each 10 matches to avoid 4 fps bug.

What is really broken is a ******* hitboxes anywhere but not on enemy mechs. I'm tired of retardness where I need to predict all the time where is enemy's mech hitbox atm judging by where it's moving.

Come quite some way in a year, but at the same time I've seen individuals get more than this done in a year.

...Guess I'd be pushing it to hope a major rework of paint economy and ECM is in the works, since PGI seems to be all "this is working as intended" even though lots of us beta players are saying it's not the right way (isn't that what we're for?) and so for such things...
But I digress. It's good to know that PGI's at least aware of the main technical problems at hand and looking into them... Or at least, that's what they want us to think...

So when are we getting DirectX11? You keep saying that's supposed to fix a lot of things.

I think that investing in improving the toolsets used to track down problems will really pay off for both the devs and players in the near future.

Thank you for the update Matthew.

I am thinking that PGI is on Holiday and trying to enjoy themselves. I mean think about all the POSTS, and not to mention, PMs and EMails these guys get about problems or simply just complainers (being nice here). But yet, here we have one of them posting on a Sunday, just 2 days out from Christmas about what is going on.

To me, this shows that they do care and that they are investing in the future of this franchise / game.

I can think of but a few professions that are forced to work Holidays, such as medical, law enforcement, public utilities, armed forces to name a few, but how many folks do so voluntarily? And for something that is free (relatively)?

Like the man said, yes, there are issues, yes we are working on it. They have been at it about a year. How about we actually thank thank them for what they HAVE done? Buy a Hero or some MCs, but at the very least, wish them all Happy Holidays!

Edit: And to the (being nice again) complainers - go buy that lump of coal for your dash board. Believe me, if I could afford it and PGI would let me, I would spend the MC for everyone that has complained about something in a non-constructive way (being nice again). Constructive complaints with suggestions are fine. Enough said.

Happy Holidays PGI and thanx for a great job so far and a great game,

I'm ungrateful at this point because of the direction PGI is going and some of the messes they've created. There, I've said it. But if I didn't still have faith, I wouldn't be here. I stay here in hopes of being able to say "I'm grateful to PGI for their great work, I love MechWarrior Online." And I believe that time will come.

As a fellow game developrt and tester I would like to give you a qucik translation to that linked topic:
(this is the answers the internal testers get from the coders whne they ask for a fix)

4 FPS Bug:
I can't reproduce it on my machine, more logs added to code, dont call me until you have 100% repro

Game Server Performance
You could not even repro that fps bug, stop harrasing me !!

Yellow screen bug
WE DIDNT TUCH THAT PART OF THE CODE SINCE LAST PACTH! IT WAS IN THAT TOO, YOUR SCREW UP FOR NOT NOTICEING BEFORE... now go back and repro that fps bug.

Memory Leak
It's a beta what do you expect? We will do optimization when we clear the beta.

Netcode
We are working on it but we can't make progress if you keep buggin me with those other issues, what do you want bug fixes or new net code ?

OFC Jokeing, and I know from first hand how hard some bugs can be to find and fix, but I just could not let this thread go without the translation ^_^ ... the answers were soo tipical :D

Challenge accepted.

You have until 23 Dec 2013 to bring out a comparable mech game.

I'll remember your name and will remember to call you out like the little bs'er that you are until you prove otherwise.

Oh so your initial post was an uninformed, non expert, not even left field type of clueless bs then.

Huh. Thought so.

I used to be a commercial developer that decided to leave the industry cos I know how hard it can be.

But that's totally irrelevant. I'm not be one saying bs. I'm the one calling you out on it....

Take some game mods. Technically, they already have an engine in that regard, just like PGI does. And I've seen small independent groups put together fantastic projects in a year (PGI is not as small as you might think). And I live with a person who's been involved with game development studios. But again, I'm not a developer and I'm in a different kind of field, although I've had the opportunity to enjoy some insights.

I'm every bit as willing to defend PGI as the next person, but that's not going to stop me for calling them out on what I believe to be faults. I just want the game to succeed like most of us here and that's why I'm a Founder. Isn't that why you're a Founder? I'm not unreasonable. Or at least, as unreasonable as some people. I'm objective, perhaps. "Call me out" for being an "entitled" or whatever, a "bser", do what you like, if it makes you feel better.

I'm not going to continue this. I prefer not having a dev's thread being fouled like this. Merry Christmas, PGI, take your deserved break.
