I guess I look at it from a perspective of saving myself milliseconds of time. The more groups I'm dealing with, the more I'm trying to remember which button goes to what thing, the slower my reactions will be - especially since I run different 'Mechs as needed by my team. I work my groups down to the tiniest detail for heat management but I always have an alpha group for my lasers. On laser-heavy 'Mechs I tend to have an alpha group, a heat management group if necessary (rarely used), and an 'other' group for missiles or gauss or what-have-you.

The most groups I have on any 'Mech currently is 4. The vast majority of them, I run 2.

This sounds incredibly normal and sensible to me...in a thread filled with nonsensical statements.

This thread is a microcosm of these forums as a whole: a whole bunch of awful players claiming the good players are the ones without talent and far too many people saying a board game's exact numbers would magically make this computer game balanced. Yep, rational people everywhere.

Apparently you are not any good unless you use a key for each laser when you do.

They would never be able to use pure TT values for everything. If they did then 98% of the player base would QQ when they were one shot before their LRMS could even hit.

I bind my G15 macro buttons to fire off 6 groups at the same time 12x in succession.

Well, what I can say about some players that have been listed to be "the best" or "one of the best".. We haven't defeat them in battle. We eradicated them... I'am wondering if they had a bad day, more than one time, or we're just overpowered (Lance, so 4premade).

OMFG! Why did I not realize this sooner? And to think I matching the number of weapon groups on my mech to the number of buttons on my mouse, and foolishly grouping by location/range/cool-down parameters.

This is going to be a real game changer! :)

I don't think it should matter HOW people are good. I think the only thing that should matter, is that they ARE. This thread had a lot of potential, but frankly it's always sad to see something like this, made to honor people, dragged down into finger pointing and belittling, just because someone has an opinion of how people should be good. That's idiotic.

If they're good, they're good. It doesn't matter how - leave them alone if they don't play this game the way you think they should. An opinion no matter how forcefully stated is never a fact. Subjective does not equal objective. And to be blunt almost none of the posts from the past several pages were actually on-topic.

So if it's ok with people, can we let this thread either be put out of it's misery and everyone else's, or can we get things back on track? One of the two. Either way, discussion of how to be a better pilot is already happening where it should - this is not that place. This is a thread for mentioning the pilots people have been impressed by, honored to fight with and/or against, etc., so let's KEEP it that way - failing that, just let this thread die.

You know, it is sad when you have guys in a guild mention who they think are the 'best players' and they are in thier guild. What a bunch of homers (home town fans for those who do not know this slang term).

Nope. I always use alpha strikes with my SDR-5V!
Two HP's, one single firegroup... ;)

Most of the time I'd suggest this is because those are the players they see most often (including viewing their cockpit cams after death) so they have a better all around view of their skills. If I were to bother naming people they'd be from the group I play with on a regular basis as its hard to judge from just watching people for a single match.

If that's aimed at a few of our guys on the first pages, I think you'll find they weren't when they posted. Most of them weren't even playing with us apart from some odd TS3 dropship matches.

*shrugs* I am just saying it because it is true. Maybe your clan-mates are good, but it is incredible biased to say they are the best. When I see someone list a couple of people and they are in thier clan, I am calling shennanagains.
