I like to build my mech with heat efficiency over raw firepower in mind. I don't like using any mech with a heat efficiency below 1.2, though I try to have it set at at least 1.3. For instance I recently started using the cataphract chassis. I have a 2X with 2 large lasers, a medium laser and 2 SRM 4's with Artemis. 300 engine, endo steel, double heatsinks and a sick paintjob to round it out. While not having as much firepower as some of the builds I have faced not shutting down in a protracted firefight has given me a a very big edge. The 1X I recently optimised to my tastes has done extremely well using 2 weapons that most people on this forum hate. A PPC and LB 10 X. I even got a 6 kill game yesterday with it.

Before my recent romps with the cataphract I would have to say my hunchback 4G and 4P were my best mech but the cataphract may soon take their spot.

SRM6 Cat-A1 for me. That thing is nuts. Fast enough to dance around what it can't one shot, and able to one shot everything else.

I've got a couple of builds I love to play around with.

For starters my favorite mech by far is:
Catapult K2
2x PPC
2x Medium Pulse Laser
Standard 275 Engine
Endo Steel
20 Double Heat Sinks

With maxed out skills I run around at 75kph and I can absolutely stomp people with this build. Fast, Agile, Large torso twisting, and with 20DHS you can fire off for quite a while before you overheat.

A build that I've been playing with recently that I've had a ton of fun with is:
Stalker-3F
6x PPC
280 XL Engine
17 Double Heat Sinks

This build is so much fun, it feels like you're in an AT-AT laying down lightning. I love it when I one shot light mechs, mediums, and some heavies :) It's got it's drawbacks, which is being slow, a big target, and overheating like crazy which is why it's not my main mech.

My Founders Hunchback also works really well, throw in DHS, 3x Medium Lasers, and 3 tons of AC/20 Ammo. Nomnomnomnom.

With all the excitement surrounding the Stalkers going back to rationality, I am really seeing alot of K2s coming back on the field too. It is an extremely unique mech that will always find a place on the field. B)

I like my Stalker STK-5M.

Engine STD 255
18 Double Heat Ssnks
3 x Large Lasers
2 x Medium Lasers
1 x LRM-5
1 x LRM-15
3 tons LRM Ammo
2 x Streak SRM-2
1 ton SSRM Ammo

Gives me the ability to soften people up with LRMs and still have a decent punch at short range. I also like the balanced location of weaponry, so even if a Left or Right Torso gets taken out, I essentially have half my weapons left, with a Large Laser in the Center Torso as a last resort weapon for when both side Torsos are gone. The other thing is that it is fairly old tech so if we see R&R reimplemented, it should be cheap on the upkeep.

Another favorite is the Catapault CPLT-C1.

Engine STD 260
20 Double Heat Sinks
2 x Large Lasers
4 x Medium Lasers
2 x Streak SRM-2
1 ton SSRM Ammo

Moves decently and a lets me keep up a high rate of fire with the DHS. People also expect it to be a missile boat, so its'a bit amusing when they find that it isn't.

LRM and SSRMs are extremely expensive to upkeep even without artemis :)

My favorite mech and arguably the best performing overall for me is my Centurian CN9-A

1 ac2
2 med lasers
3 srm6

Quick and fierce, it's not unbeatable obviously but generaly very consistant performance and it's a lot of fun to play. He can fit several roles if needed which IMO is good considering I PUG an awful lot.

The Mech that gives me the most damage and kills per game is My Stalker 5M

1 ER large
4 Med lasers
5 SRM4's
22 DHS

He's just a monster on the field. He is probably my most effective mech in terms of dealing damage and taking out the bad guys in a furball, but the fact he is so slow makes him a damage magnet. So in general I think my centurian is overall better in a pinch.

This may change when Trebuchet or Blackjack go live.

Every two-three weeks I end up completely changing my "go to" mech simply because of how much this game is changing.

I remember back in august it was a 2xsrm6 4sML Cat with JJ's, then a trollmando, then an AC20 cat, then a Gauss/PPC dragon, then a streak cat (before people raged over them /hipster), then a jenner, then a commando again, then back to an ac20 cat, then a triple ssrm ac10 centurion, then a cataphract sniper... then a different cataphract... and a different cataphract...

...so yeah lets see where the first January Patch takes me.

Cata K2 was my frist mech, I loved it. Then one night I got drunk and I sold it for some reason... Can't remember why. Anyway after that I bought CTF-2x. I absolutely hated it in the beginning, but now it's probably my favourite mech.

Running
-3x M.las,
-Gauss or AC10 sometimes even AC20,
-and 2xASRM6.

So this boy pretty much has everything and I never have to wait for my cooldowns, one of the weapon groups is always available to go off. And every weapon group packs a decent punch - 3x mlas - 15dmg, gauss - 15dmg, and 2xASRM6 is just tearing stuff up, I got most kills with that weapon group. 60 damage alpha from upclose, and upclose is how I play it. It tends to overheat if i'm too excited tho :). My K/D ratio with this mech must be around 3 - 3.5 in pug games...

It's not the easiest to play with tho, since you're running 3 weapon groups that require you to adjust your aim while you're spamming stuff.

My DDC. To be clear, I wasn't a founder, but I bought that puppy with cash as soon as the game was installed. Adding ECM to it was icing on the cake. I still tweak the build from time to time, but its a standard 350 STD / 16 DHS / AC20+5T / 3SRM6+A+5T / 2ML brawler build. Love that mech.

That was exactly how I set up my 2X. ;) And yes, its not easy playing with 3 weapon groups esp when moving at 81kph and all the lag issues etc... just didn't work out to be that effective.

Gauss Ilya or 3x UAC5 Ilya. Gauss is great if you play it right (no brawls, plays like a vulture) UAC5 makes people run away, sheer volume of ammunition hitting you is frightening.
HBK 4SP 5x2 is a beast as long as there is decent teamwork.
Raven 3L 3MLAS SRM6 SRM2 295XL ECM, not so good against other lights, straight up assassin against just about everything else.

Stalker 5S
6 large lasers
STD 275
21 DHS
Rest is armor.

This mech is just insane. You can pull out 2 alpha strike without overheating, chain firing is nearly heat neutral and you can do it forever.
People just lose their sh*t whenever i hit them square in the chest only one time and they see their armor flash red.
I get on average more than 600 points of damage per match, and i often go over the 1000 bar.

Atlas D-DC

Endo
DHS
Artemis
BAP
ECM

Sensor range module
Advanced zoom module

2x Ac/2
3x LRM 15's
TAG

the rest is ammo and DHS. This thing snipes like a beast and the ac/2s on chain fire keep people occupied when they close in.

I'd say my best mech is my near stock Stalker 3F. Just added endo to squeeze in a couple extra heat sinks and a bit more ammo. I honestly think the default loadout for that mech is perfect. No matter what range your at you have enough firepower to get the job done. Aslong as you can manage heat its a brilliant mech. That being said, it's also one of my favourite mechs to fight, as most people using it simply alpha a few times then overheat/explode lol.

I also love my SRM/Llas Awesome 8R. Tons of firepower, good speed and good armour. Plus noone expects the Awesome to not suck/overheat/die.

I would say my Dakkaphract- 4Xwith twin UAC5s, but the convergence issues with arm mounted ballistics hurts it badly. Still, epic fun to drive.

Cataphract. 3D
4Jets. 2 UAC-5s, 3 MLs, one TAG

A bit slow, but this thing can fight.

Also have a Muromets that's got basically the stock weapons, but it's been slowed down in order to get rid of the XL engine. Not as mobile as the 3D, but it can bring the pain.

My two Stalkers can bring the pain (one is 5 LL one is 6ML, 4 SRM-6. But they move like beached whales. I would defnately consider my Cataphracts to be better overall fighters. Just not as high firepower.

I have TAG on a majority of my mechs I just group it with all my weapons groups, plus one of it's own.

IT's a very useful tool, and it can provide the difference between a win or a loss for your team.

(elite)HBK-4J, 2x SRM6, 4xML, 1xLL(hand, important position). Side note that I have 4P, dual AC/20 K2 and STK-3H laying around aswell but they are more 'for the lulz' mechs. Next in line is the final chassis for CICADA elites, cant wait for that :P
I like my women, like I like my mechs. Affordable and medium in size.
