I'm a little concerned.. I'm on an older Dual-Core, but it runs "Most" MMO's at max settings so hopefully it'll be ok. Either way I'm buying "Elite" Far too big a fan of the Battletech/Mechwarrior franchise to not get it. If I have to wait to play it til next tax season then oh well.. I'll wait.. but I'll still have "Elite"

Prices are down on a lot of components these days, can get some really good video cards for cheap if you watch daily deals on sites like newegg.

I've upgraded my viedo card a few times but am running on a 5 year old machine, but I'm not concerned, hopefully it will play.

Cryengine 3 scales down well. My system is a bit medium low now, but was medium high when I built it.

I'm a little concerned about my computer. It runs MW:LL (Cry2 engine) on decent settings so I hope it can run MWO. If not I'll have to get a new computer... o darn!

People need to make an effort to upgrade their PC's.

Game producers are restrcited by the system stats of the majority of the gaming population. (mostly)

Want better games? Make an effort to upgrade components once a year.

Not ALL your components, but getting an amazing video card and sporadiaclly upgrading RAM and maybe your motherboard over 3 years is VERY doable.

Getting into a cycle will keep you above the gaming average consistently.

The existence of the HUGE console market with its fixed hardware has pretty much ensured that upgrading is far less important than 10years ago. It doesn't really matter if every PC gamer suddenly has a high end machine when most games also have to run on a console. But you are right, that if you want to always have the best upgrading is a must.

Basically I would say that as long as you have a resonable GPU playing games shouldn't be a problem even with older PCs.

Like many gamers I can't afford to update my computer regularly.

Also, you seem to be under the misconception that I "want better games". Graphics are nice and all... but (as I've said numerous times in the last few months) MWO could be a graphical clone of MechWarrior 4 and I wouldn't give a ****. I realize that the inevitable rebuttal to that statement is "Well then just play MW4! It's free and your POS computer can handle it just fine." to that I reply with; I am. But I'd like to play in an active 'Mech game with a larger community than the 30-or-so 'mech fanatics I've been playing MW4 with. So I'm basically being forced to upgrade for MWO. Afterward... I probably won't upgrade again for another 6+ years as I'll be playing MWO until they take the servers offline and very little else.

One can also increase performance and free up RAM by minimizing the number of back ground programs that start automatically when booting up.

WARNING: Back Up Your Computer and Go Slow (a few tweaks at a time).

Here is a sample list gleaned from the keywords "minimal minimize windows startup" adding "XP", "Vista" and "7" separately:

XP: Black Viper's Windows XP SP3 Config List

Vista: Increase Vista Performance by Trimming Startup Programs

Win7: Speed Up Windows 7

Many more out there. Please read through them carefully and keep track of your changes.

i personally have no problem playing high-end games (saints row three, SWTOR, Crysis 2, etc etc) on my machine, and aside from the fact that i only have 512 of VRAM (should probably change that, isn't it page file?) and an 8600 GT, i have a near-identical machine. take this with a grain of salt however: i notice little to no difference between low-range graphics and high-range graphics in anything but still-shots. and 60 FPS on lowest everything beats 6FPS on super-ultra-high any day to me.
YMMV of course

I voted not concerned, though I do not know what is needed. That said, regardless of how my system will handle the game, I WILL be buying the Elite package. I let my DDO subscription slip for this game.

So far I have been able to play a lot of the games that have come out in the medium range on all settings. I will be looking a new game rig sometime this year but mine should handle this game. As for the Founders..... I still debating which one, if there where more than 4 Mechs to chose from then I would in a heart beat but I have never been keen on the 4 chassis offered.

It is interesting that so far people choosing option #1 has hovered around 20% of the poll. Obviously that isn't totally accurate but I wonder how closely that represents the MWO playerbase as a whole.

While my computer isnt brand new or has the latest stuff....its more than enough to comfortably play the game. you dont need to play on ultra high at 100 FPS to enjoy the game......now taking that into consideration.....if i need to i will upgrade my graphics cards.

I'll probably be able to play on High or possibly Ultra on 50FPS or so, I'm more worried about my connection.

My download speed is 2.59Mb/s, and my upload is 0.80Mb/s, using Speedtest. That is a D+ rating and slower then 63% of Canada.

Still roughly 20% of the votes are option #1. Interesting.

My computer is pretty crappy but it still runs Fallout 3 and stuff.

Being in Beta will help test MWOs performance on low end machines. And being available on lower end machines increases the potential player base. It is entirely reasonable that MWO should or will operate on junk computers.

I really hope so. I am slowly saving for something better.
