whenever I hear someone say "man up" over a video game I just have to laugh. Their is nothing manly, macho, special or in any way actually important to a video game. It's entertainments, plain and simple, and if people take it that seriously, well that is definitely a "them" problem. The only place one can "man up" is in the real world. Being an e-badass is not being a badass at all.

I tried being a serious gamer once, but I decided I liked to smile when I play even more. That's why it's called "play".

Where is the adapt and overcome mentality?

This only works if you have a wide variety of possible scenarios, and a huge variety of totally balanced viable mechs and equipment. a WIDE VARIETY... AND BALANCED.

This game isnt there yet.

Is it wrong that I'm sitting in this thread with a teeny tiny smile. watching 4man and 8man teams eviscerate each other?

I've read this entire thread and my only comment is... where is the lobby? Instead of having all these issues with asymmetry in terms of the number of players and drop weights, let the players sort it out by choosing who (insta-ELO) they want to drop against, how many (instant-solver for 4, 8 or any sized groups) they want to match up against and at what weights they mutually choose.

The best part about it is the cries of 8 man being full cheese mode ecmfest atlas/raven.Then the same people turn around and spam ecm/tag scouts with assault LRM boats on pugs. But i guess that's ok as long as they are the one's doing the stomping and running the "cheese mode".

We get enough people to run 1 8 man at a time, rarely 2. I haven't dropped in an 8-man for 5 days or so, but unless something has changed, all that's in an 8-man drop are Atlas DCs and Raven 3Ls. With maybe a third or forth chassis every 10th game or so. Really good games are so rare I just find it boring playing in 8 man.

Managed to run a few 8 man drops yesterday. It was about 7 of them with 5 win 2 loss. And I have to say the majority were just like he says.

My drop team was ...

2 Atlas AS7D-DC with ECM
2 Stalkers (LRM boats)
2 Raven 3L with ECM and TAG
1 Hunchback 4P
1 Dragon 5N/Cataphract 3D

One drop was 6 Atlas DDC 1 founder's Atlas 1 ac 20 Catapult.

Next was 4 ECM Lights 2 ravens 2 commandos 1 ECM cicada the rest were 3 ECM atlas DDCs.All mechs had streaks on any missile hardpoints 19 streak launchers total I could only guess that the cicada pilot couldn't afford a commando 2D or Raven 3L yet. (Loss to base cap and early loss of recon mechs))

next drop was a nice ballance of 4 assaults (ECM Atlas DDCs) 2 heavies ( hero mech cataphracts with tripple ultra ac 5)and 2 mediums (cicadas with ECM)

Next was 4 ECM atlases 1 brawler stalker 1 ECM raven 1 ECM commando and an AC 20 catapult.

Next was 2 AC 20 Catapults 4 ECM atlas DDCs 1 LRM stalker and an ECM Cicada.

Next was 4 ECM Atlas DDCs,1 Gausscat,1 Splatcat (AC20s) 2 ECM ravens.(Loss.)

Next was a hilariously poorly attempted base rush with 8 ECM commandos.

The average 8 man team we faced had 6 of 8 mechs ECM equiped.A major factor in our victories was the general lack of preparedness on the other teams side to handle LRMs and TAG.

In the one match where we couldn't effectivley bring our LRMs to bear we got crushed 8-0.

My determination is 8 man vs 8 man has devolved into ECM + (insert gimicky build).

If you want to use mechs other than ECM carriers you are pretty much forced to 4 man if 6 of 8 slots are filled with ECM in 8 mans.

If you want to grind XP on poorly optimized builds (Raven 2X or 4X for example) you do not do this in an 8 man.

If you can't keep 8 players in a group for a long period of time you go 4 man.

If you press launch 4-6 times and get failed to find a match you go 4 man.

14 pages and life is too short to read them, sorry Magician!

To answer your question:

KaoS' European team was online last night running 8 mans. We had some great fights with KE and the Goons, sorry we didn't see you. Honestly, though, people are less active because they despair at PGI's development priorities for what is supposed to be a unit based game:

- Netcode issues
- No rankings
- No actual concept of units
- No proper match making (lobby, challenge system, weight limits)
- No meta game (we're fighting for NOTHING)

The apathy PGI is generating will erode all of our teams, we need stuff like RHoD more than ever to keep the fun going despite the game's issues.

For any unit reading this, drop by killsecured.com if you want to schedule something with KaoS.

WHy is it that the premade hatting flagwavers never mention the 4 puggies that get a win by having a 4 man premade on thier side?

Most of the time where a 4 man team "pugstomps" there are 4 pugs stomping with them!

Get over yourself not every loss you experience is because of premades sometimes it's better pugs stomping you sometimes it's premades and pugs rarely and I mean very rarely it's 4 man + 4 man on one side and pugs get "pugstomped" by premades.Occationally it's 4 man + 4 man vs 4 man + 4 pugs and my evil premade gets "pugstomped" with our 4 team mate pugs!

Bottom line is when your team wins premades are not even thought of.It couldn't possibly be a 4 man on your side spoon feeding you a win oh no you suddenly got talent. But a loss oh good lord those evil premades are pugstomping again!

They couldn't handle real competition so they went back to sync dropping in 4mans to pubstomp or play "race to the red square"

Actually, I'm well aware that premades have a huge impact on my game and in many PUG wins, it does look like there is a premade on my team although I don't bother asking in game. Just looking at how certain groups move and shoot its pretty clear.

However, you're mistaken if you think I enjoy games with premades that end in stomping the other team or being condescendingly told I'm being carried. The best games are still the close ones or where a tactical win is pulled off.

MM is borked and until we have one that puts a premade on each side every time and clearly indicates this in the player list, solo PUGgers are still going to be QQ'g for a solo queue.

Good 8-man matches: 1 Atlas-DDC, 1-2 scouts, rest to taste (both teams) - Matches going 10+ minutes with thrust and counterthrust.

Bad 8-man matches: 5 Atlas-DDC, 2 Raven-3L, 1 random (enemy team) - Steiner Scout Lance ™ stomp into (or around the flank) of the team and alphastrike everything with Large Lasers and SRM-6/Streaks. No-one can see them coming, no-one can co-ordinate fire ("shoot the atlas", "which one????"), trying the hold them long enough to re-organise is impossible. Match goes less than 3 minutes before getting rolled over (not everyone owns a DDC to field).

A premade looks very similar to a group of pugs who understand coordinated play even with a lack of communication. When I pug in my Assaults and a phract, or hunchie shadows me, when I shadow in my mediums or heavies, or when I swat the lights off my slow movers in my light: it looks alot like there may have been communication between me and them, even when there wasnt. Thats the difference between being a good player, and a great player/teammate: how effectively you work together in absence of any form of communication. Reactionary play does not require comms, it only requires situational awareness.

If they're so bad, why don't you roll them? I know we roll people who mass stalkers and fatlases all the time.
