Some updates on the most common concerns for cheating:

Farming:

This is partly why the economy was altered recently we have a lot of telemetry on farming and we can assure you that it is rapidly dying out after the economy changes and also because as we track it better now many bans have been handed out already for farming. Like I say this is rapidly dying out.

Aimbots:

While aimbots are possible they are of limited use in MWO and again we have increasing amounts of telemetry on users aim ratios etc. players with unusually high stats are regularly looked at and if found to be cheating can expect a ban coming their way. As we've repeatedly stated we take cheating very seriously and track it more and more effectively each patch, so cheaters days are numbered.

If you see users you suspect of farming/aimbots etc. the best thing you can do is report them to support with as much detail to help us track them down and if we confirm cheating they will be banned.

No mention of packet loss exploiting?

I can do it but only in short burst of time, the process just burns out my initiative rather quickly.

But I would love to , however it is a lot of work. It takes numerous people with quite a bit more OCD then what I have. To gather enough damning evidence involves just as much luck as it does legwork & time.

The question you have to ask yourself is; "Would PGI listen?"

I've got all the websites and resources necessary to construct such a site, just need people willing to do the dirty work of sifting the data intake.

P.S. I don't consider my post wipe as being silenced, when I looked back at what I wrote I realized I had just delivered a big juicy steak to tempt anyone who might be even remotely inclined to cheat. Thereby fueling the fire we're already complaining about. This subject really get's my blood boiling, and I posted without considering exactly what I had written. Egomane did the right thing and removed it.

I've loved the MW franchise since I first got into it on the PC in the 90's. So I readily paid for my LF package. As a thank you gesture, I also paid for the 25+ employees in my firm to get LF packages as well. So I consider myself an investor in MWo, and being an investor, I want it to not only succeed but to thrive. However, if they are not vigorously kept out, nothing will kill this investment quite like hackers once they arrive in any great numbers.

I would help with the investigations. I have learned more about hacks than i ever wanted to know playing APB and developed a big antipathy against them. Those people destroy games.

Steps are also being taken to address high rates of disconnecting.

It could very well be glitches that make people disconnect. On last count, the gold vision goggles was still around, 0000000s crashing the game, WWWWWWWWWW HUD, NO HUD, tetris map, 4fps. I've had all but 4fps, and I'm beginning to think it's more a problem with their machines than the game itself, but they all exist and are still quite prevalent.

If you use altered gamefiles, cfgs or cheats to make sound available to you that gives you the position of players you are not meant to hear by the developers it is a cheat.

I use altered volume, does t hat count?

Recently i was killed by a guy in a ecm mech using streak on me - problem is there was a building between us.
Is this a trick or simply a really bad lag? I have this happened once and think therefore it was the occasional bad lag.

Could just be that he switched his ECM to counter mode (hit J) if there isn't more than one ECM nearby he will be able to lock you.

the 4fps bug is due to a memory leak... some players I know with say 4gb of RAM and/or 1GB graphics cards get it after less than 1 hour of play and have to reset the client... I have 16gb and 2GB and have to reset after around 2 hours of play - though I rarely play for 2 hours straight so I rarely get it at all

so ECM in counter mode also counters buildings as cover?
useful to know ;)

I think he experienced the old non solid buildings glitch on River City is what he's talking about.

I've played for 6 hours in a row, and the only bug that appeared to be a memory leak was a crash to desktop that I haven't had in forever. Of course, it could be 32 bit OS, could be a lack of RAM, could be that it's allocating it to Pando Media Booster or something equally destructive.

It's rare. I've played a crapload of matches. The one time I can truly say I was getting cheated was I had one guy firing a Gaussapalt and I got cored at 1000+ meters. Now before anyone can say, "Oh yes, that is possible..."

I was behind a hill. In full cover.

You can't tell me I wasn't being hacked there in that game.

It however was reported and that person was banned.

Hi Tice

This is actually quite unlikely as the server has the same information at the client so cannot shoot through anything, and it's not hackable being server side. What is more likely is that you found a section of the map that could be lacking collision (so it's then lacking for both server and client) if you hit F9 you get fps and location on screen, if it happens again or you can reproduce it send us a screenshot and we'll get the designers to look at that location on the map to confirm the physics mesh is correct.

(Hopes we didn't ban a user for faulty physics collision :-/)

Lag or map glitch.

It most likely either A: A terrain error. They are still working on the terrain meshes but they still have issues, such as LRMs flying through terrain and buildings, or B: A server compensation error where they correct positioning of the mech is not shown on one or both players screen in time so that it appears that you were hit behind a building when in reality the missiles were launched and hit before you were in cover.

We have a misunderstanding here - the Streaks cant pass a bulding but they did.
So i expect that i witnessed some Lag where my Client showed me the Mech behind the building and the Streaks hitting me from there while in truth he was close to me with no building between us so they had a clean flightpath ;)

Again could likely be a bug in the maps physics (first thing to suspect), F9, note location and pass to support is the best bet for the designers getting to take a look at it.

It wasn't behind the hill on the coast of forest near the radar tower was it?
Because the visual for that hill and the actual hitbox for it are out by a full mech width. It's screwed up.

You can peep around the corner of it and watch mechs in plain view shoot at you only for it to hit the hills hitbox instead. It'd be funny if it wasn't so bad.

Before I would have said there is no cheaters, but after what happened today, I'm more inclined to believe that some people have hacked themselves an aimbot of some sorts. I was moving at full speed on difficult terrain (quite steep cliff) so my movement wasn't exactly predictable and this kid (not gonna name him) hits nothing but my head with his large lasers from something like 400m range and kills me under a second. I was full armor as this was pretty early in the game. I'm not quick to call cheater on every headshot, those happen, but this was little too unbelieveable. Not even with luck could he have headshotted me like that. He didn't even hit my torso at all. I know this because I instantly looked at where I was killed and my torsos weren't taking any damage. Lucky? I don't think so.

It just blows my mind that the first assumption some people make is that there is cheating, not that wow, this game is unfinished and some maps, including River City still experience some pretty solid map errors, clipping, terrain glitches, mech sticking, rubber banding, and other bugs. On top of this you have incomplete net code, variable ping, and graphical incompatibilities. Couldn't be any of these, must be a hacker, right?
