Plus it guarantees that all my fellow poor college students will be able to play, so hey, built in contacts list!

I'm in agreement with the F2P model (I've supported many F2P MMO's, probably spending more money on item shop purchases than I would or have in subscription fees), but has there been any consideration regarding releasing a retail box? Or perhaps provide a "pre-order" bonus through the website? A free release could still be made available for download, and those of us eager and willing to support MWO and Piranha could spend MSRP for a collectors tin, art book, soundtrack, etc. (I've seen the quality of the concept art and I know Piranha could release some awesome extras). Most gamers I know are also collectors, so (production costs permitting) I know there could be some extra revenue to be had if such an option were offered.
Keep up the good work!

I invite you to actually read some more posts and spend a little bit more time here immersed in the community before you judge. I see that you registered today and this is your second post. That's really not a lot of time to get a good idea of what the PGI Dev Team is working on nor about how supportive this community is.
In the future please keep commentary like this toned down, polite, objective and in the proper forums (like GENERAL TOPICS)

For one thing it's F2P, second, I question why you would think that not owning a credit card would prevent you from playing a game that requires no actual payment. If a game is free, it will generally have more players than one that is paid, since most people are cheapos who'd rather play something for free than pay for it.

I've played every installment of the Battletech/Mechwarrior franchise computer games and enjoyed every one of them. I still have The Crescent Hawk's Inception and Revenge sitting on this computer that I play on an emulator every so often.
F2P in this instance is good because it introduces the franchise to a lot of this generation of players with no upfront cost. It's really the best model for increasing and introducing the playerbase to a really great universe!
Best of luck guys!

I think the F2P supporters really don't take into account how much grief can be attributed to an "open" system. Anyone can login, grief and recreate a new account. Banning is almost impossible. Too easy to get new IP or new email adress. Also, having a game open to the "masses" can sometimes detract from the "clique-y" feeling of being part of something such as Battletech.
Don't get me wrong, I loves me some WOW and have since beta, but I still miss the days of a smaller title, Asheron's Call. It really was the best of both worlds; having an MMO with a diverse group of people but small enough that "community" was really strong. And from the quantity and quality of the posts here I can personally tell the Battletech community is alive and well.
That being said....
If you really want to be able to experience and keep this community alive, F2P is, hands down, no brainer...the way to go. Nothing will kill a new MMO title faster than not enough players. And almost NOTHING will guarantee critical mass easier than F2P. Yeah, SWToR will have great numbers. But, well...it's STARWARS. Even Warhammer:Online with it's rich story and dedicated customer base could overcome the WOW juggernaught. Some people will maintain more than one subscription based game, but most will not.
So, F2P will bring in the masses. And F2P will bring in some P2W players, although I suspect this will only be apparent in the VERY early stages of the game while others grind up the points to achieve identicle abilities in game. These would be *very* small accomodations to make to allow the rest of us to enjoy the world we so dearly love to spend our leisure time in.
Blackwidow out.

Same concept applies here. Except, I don't (one hopes!!!!) need to spend 50 thousand dollars to be on equal footing with the fastest guys in my class. No, I can do that with 50 (again, one hopes). Considering the fact that if this game is what I expect it to be, I'll be playing for years, such a low dollar investment is an incredible value, in my view.

I prefer monthly fee of 5-15 Euro (or whatever you have in your country xD)
Because I never saw any good Free 2 Play model yet.
Not enough content, badly desinged, pay 2 win, over priced exchange rates (gold & so on) or too much stuff to pay for.
Lets hope for better concepts... I really do.
PS.: maybe put this in a Poll
