The one thing that always comes to mind is the art style

But then a lot of us have been fans of Flying Debris' work for years.

Agreed. The "art department" is doing superior job (i.e. mechs, maps, items, skins, etc.) Granted, in a perfect world we would be getting new stuff faster, but world is not perfect and PGI is a small shop - I'd give them A+ all things considered.

The "game design department" on the other hand doesn't seem to be able to get anything done right for whatever reason.

Ot did a good job of getting me excited enough to waste my money on a Founder package.

I see adds all over, so I guess their marketing department is working hard..

The Art is good.

The sounds. The feeling of piloting a walking mech and not just an oversized person.

Yeah. Pretty awesome.

A few off the top of my head before I go to work:
The art style/ graphics
Sound effects (these things sound heavy)
The trend of the map variants
The controls

The art style is good

And the devs serve as a good example for others on how NOT to develop a game

They make a game that is incredibly fun to play. Translated a boring TT game into something exciting. Bring to life the fight scenes I have read in the BT/MW books. Rolling out good content that makes the game challenging and fun. Devs have been great at making changes to the game that stop stupid kids from making ridiculous builds that ruin everyone's fun just to enhance their own fun. Despite being shorthanded they have put out an excellent product that continues to get better after each patch. I could go on and on but it is really stopping me from playing this fun game. Flame away, Haters. :D

At a basic level the mech combat is enjoyable, horrendous netcode aside. The art design and sound design are both solid.

That's about all I got.

There are so many things going right in this game that it is difficult to pick the best features, so in no particular order:
- The graphics and art design is amazing
- The mechs all feel different, instead of carbon copy + skin
- The sound is very immersive, makes you feel like you really are in that cockpit
- Players are rewarded for being good team players as well as individually skilled pilots
- Mech-bay customization allows for very personalized vairents without sacrificing the feel of each mech (for the most part)

Ill be back later to list some more

I like the general controls of the mech. The torso-twist + arm movement = Dual Reticule system is great.
I love the mech designs so far.

As much as I tend to ***** about unacceptable elements currently ruining the game....

I'll look past it for this post

MWO is pretty good for as long as it has been in developement, and I probably wouldn't play anything else if the things i regularly ***** about had gotten fixed.

lack of content doesn't bother me so much, as you tell the things like maps and art are done very well when they are done, so it's coming. What we have is very good.

The complexity is retained from the original Mechwarrior, and the mouse/keyboard setup works extremely well.

The variety in builds hasn't been hampered, hindered, or made anything obscelete. (barring ***** point #2 ECM)

Any mech can kill any mech, provided you have the skills to do so (Barring ....ECM)

It isn't pay to win yet...

You don't have to grind for a week to buy a PPC

You don't have to grind a week to unlock a box of XP

Mech style, graphics of buildings and water, weapon graphics, fake news, and lastly crushing our hearts.

Yeah unlike the game it resembles... I hated being forced to be a scout IE cannon fodder because my cannons "ping"ed off the bigger guys' armor

Yep, I hate that game. But I hate it because you literally had to grind 50 hours to the next tier tank, and 10 or so hours just to upgrade 1 component.

I never played MW before, but I love MWO !

the graphics are gorgeous ! I prefer having some beautiful mechs and maps rather than a lot of similar stuff

game-play is also really cool ! hard to control at the beginning but really fun afterwards ! targeting parts is fun !

all the customization is nicely done too, there is a lot of variety

even the website and forums work great !

mech animations and destruction/damage

Oh one request, eventually, when you get cored I want to see useless legs and arms flailing about...

But for the most part I do like the graphics and sounds, a very good feel of being in a giant mech.
Sounds are pretty much spot on, reactor whine when doing 120kph in a Jenner is just sooo nice. Not to mention ballistic weapon sounds. And the armor glow, first seemed odd choice but I quite like it now.

And all in all staying fairly faithfull to TT while translating this to a first person viewpoint, is important to me (And a lot of community I believe) Although this ecm on steroids does not make me a happy camper, at least let BAP counter it a little more.

Given the unrealistic facts you have to accept when playing BT, I think a lot of choices have injected very realistic feel into this game. While I may not agree with all of them, there are a lot of good calls I wouldn't have thought of either.

PS

I just hope you can get a good handle on performance aspects of the game early this year. Given how quickly a year rolls by, I'd focus on this. New maps/maps/mechs/equipment (with their new more work producing optimizations etc) are in my mind completely secondary before good baseline has been achieved. It looks good enough, now it needs to play good enough.

The developers should really sit up and take notice of this thread. Not because it's useful, but because in five pages of a thread talking EXPLICITLY about what they've done right, nobody mentions the balance, actual design of the levels beyond appearance, netcode, matchmaking system, really anything but how pretty it is and how much they love mechs.

Visuals and having mechs in it is not going to appeal to anyone who is not already here.

That is not a good thing.

extortion....

edit: the art and core play are good, like MW3/4 but without a good plan and actual help from the community more suffering will ensue

Art direction and Mech handling.

That's about it.
