Higher ping sure is annoying.

Lights and some Mediums can be hard to hit at 265ms due to rubberbanding, although not impossible. Once the ping gets above ~300ms, then it becomes really hard with some mechs (looking at you Spider and Commando) outright warping up to ~20m at a time. Hell, now I have to lead on Assault Mechs, something that I didn't have to really do much before. Sometimes I had to lead a body section ahead, now it can be a meter or more ahead of the mechs position on my screen.
Coupled with the framerate reduction I've gotten over the last couple of patches (was at 45-55 on most maps, now down to 20-30 on some), I'm a little frustrated.

Someone did some research a couple days ago and I tracked down a conversation about this issue and this game on the Verizon forums. These guys (and myself) have also called Verizon, but it's not their issue.
Apparently, it's a bandwith problem with the customer. The traceroute kind of shows that. Basically, PGI /IGP/whoever runs this sort of thing needs to buy more bandwith because all of us Northeast/Mid-Atlantic scrubs using Verizon are playing Mechwarrior like crazy, and we're all suffering for it. It's a good problem to have I suppose, but it needs to get fixed.

However, it dawned on me last night to try a work around... I subscribe to a VPN provider to use for hotel access when I travel for work.
I decided to play while connected to my VPN, and it works awesome. The VPN is to NY and was giving me a 25-30ms ping. disconnecting and playing through FIOS gave me around 110-130ms....
Not sure what it all means, figured the information might be useful...

lately (as in only in the last week or so, well after the patch) around late at night (9pm EST) my ping has been jumping to 200 or even as high as 250ms. But when I start playing at around 6pm EST its only around 60ms. Gotta figure out if its just cuz thats when people around the area are streaming stuff, or if its the game server specifically...
EDIT: even during this time while my ping hovers around 200ms in game I get 60ms ping to google. Gonna try another online shooter game to see what I get there.
EDIT2: Something really fishy here. I load up MWLL and I see 50ms ping to US servers. Load MWO back up and I'm back down to 70ms for now.... tests inconclusive
EDIT3: 2nd game after that 70ms return, and I got nearly 200ms ping again. ugggg.

what IS possible, and maybe even likely, is some error on your ISP or hardware malfunction on your end that coincided with the patch in terms of chronology.
