My ping has been stable in the 250-300millisecond range since I started MWO (Brisbane Australia)

Since this Patch my Ping rate has gone from 35-75 to 175-233. WHAT THE HELL!! I can be going after light mechs fire and then 2 seconds after I fire I am hitting nothing or I actually hit a friendly. Was fine Monday night but tuesday night I jumped.

Also have FIos

Yes and it gets worse after the second or third match.

Ping is higher with about 20-30. Some EU servers would help but I am not sure they have the population for that. I would not be surprised if the increased numbers of players because of double xp is simply too much for their current servers.

Higher ping sure is annoying.

My ping used to be stable at 265ms from rural Australia which is about right. After the patch it has been jumping up to ~325ms that I have seen (I cant be checking it all the time) at seemingly random times.

Lights and some Mediums can be hard to hit at 265ms due to rubberbanding, although not impossible. Once the ping gets above ~300ms, then it becomes really hard with some mechs (looking at you Spider and Commando) outright warping up to ~20m at a time. Hell, now I have to lead on Assault Mechs, something that I didn't have to really do much before. Sometimes I had to lead a body section ahead, now it can be a meter or more ahead of the mechs position on my screen.

Coupled with the framerate reduction I've gotten over the last couple of patches (was at 45-55 on most maps, now down to 20-30 on some), I'm a little frustrated.

Same for me, Ping rate went from 50 to 150ms after last patch.

Why?

Someone did some research a couple days ago and I tracked down a conversation about this issue and this game on the Verizon forums. These guys (and myself) have also called Verizon, but it's not their issue.

Apparently, it's a bandwith problem with the customer. The traceroute kind of shows that. Basically, PGI /IGP/whoever runs this sort of thing needs to buy more bandwith because all of us Northeast/Mid-Atlantic scrubs using Verizon are playing Mechwarrior like crazy, and we're all suffering for it. It's a good problem to have I suppose, but it needs to get fixed.

I'm not exactly sure how this would be possible... but I seem to have higher ping times since the most recent patch. I used to be in the 20 - 30ms range and now I'm always in the 130 - 200ms range. It's a pretty big difference. I wouldn't think a patch could change round trip times... but I did ping tests to other sites and pingtest.net etc and I get a Grade A. Everything else seems to be fine. Were the game servers moved to a new location? Are you using a new ISP? Was there some kind of routing change? I've noticed after the patch when I spectate through other mechs I can see them jumping all over the place, I never used to see that. I also seem to be missing a lot more often with my PPC's.

Anybody else seeing this or is my ISP maybe having issues?

you are not the only one....this ip address is the problem verision claims its not owned by them but i was not having this problem 1month ago here is the ip and a search i did using google showing how many peopleare having problems with this.........

Just wanted to add myself to the list of Verizon FIOS customers that have seen their ping increase. I'm in California and my ping was consistently 88ms all throughout closed beta until very recently. Now my ping is between 103-110ms.
Thank you for posting thread about the increase. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue.

I've had serious latency issues with ping varying between 150 - 800 during a match, not sure what it was, but since the last patch this issue has been resolved. Now constant ping of 140 - 150, which is pretty decent to East Coast NA.

Yep used to get around 45-50ms ping all the time even after they switched to the production hardware. Then after one patch it went up to around 90ms and that is where it has been since.

Still having the high ping issue until after midnight EST. FIOS-NJ user here. Never had the problem before, up until the last few weeks.

However, it dawned on me last night to try a work around... I subscribe to a VPN provider to use for hotel access when I travel for work.

I decided to play while connected to my VPN, and it works awesome. The VPN is to NY and was giving me a 25-30ms ping. disconnecting and playing through FIOS gave me around 110-130ms....

Not sure what it all means, figured the information might be useful...

I'm a RoadRunner customer in NC with the same issues.

lately (as in only in the last week or so, well after the patch) around late at night (9pm EST) my ping has been jumping to 200 or even as high as 250ms. But when I start playing at around 6pm EST its only around 60ms. Gotta figure out if its just cuz thats when people around the area are streaming stuff, or if its the game server specifically...

EDIT: even during this time while my ping hovers around 200ms in game I get 60ms ping to google. Gonna try another online shooter game to see what I get there.

EDIT2: Something really fishy here. I load up MWLL and I see 50ms ping to US servers. Load MWO back up and I'm back down to 70ms for now.... tests inconclusive

EDIT3: 2nd game after that 70ms return, and I got nearly 200ms ping again. ugggg.

a patch would have absolutely no impact on ping. it's just not possible.
what IS possible, and maybe even likely, is some error on your ISP or hardware malfunction on your end that coincided with the patch in terms of chronology.
