The community HAS spoken.. 3rd person topic must diiieeeeeee

No, the topic must NOT die, it must continue to be hammered and shouted from the mountain tops until PGI/IGP come out and say with 100% clarity and certainty that even the threat of the implementation of a feature that is by and large not wanted is gone. Until then, we must never go silent on this. ever.

It doesn't matter, they listen to the playerbase of other games over us.

The great number of secret people at conventions, who so wish to play mechwarrior, is quite great indeed.

Yes, all the conventions PGI doesn't have booths at and are instead shoe horned in at panels where they have to compete with Star Citizen and Chris Roberts for attention.

the scary truth of all this is, I have PMed 3 staff members, 0 of which have returned my PM at all on this subject. I asked them point blank: with the new training grounds in place, that let those who are new to the game learn, and let those of us who are vets tweak our stuff, there is no need for 3rd person views, as the claim of not understanding the leg facing versus torso facing is rendered moot with the new training grounds. With this in mind, has even the idea of 3rd person views been permanently shelved?"

Should also mention, I tried to get an answer via Ask the dev's thread several times to no avail.

I have asked this question 3 times over the last month with no reply. This is a scary situation considering the charged nature of this topic and the total break down of communications or any kind of reply, even in the form of a command chair post to allay our fears and concerns is shocking. Instead they answer banal questions about cheese burgers or beer. We must know the status of this undesired feature, we deserve an answer.

This rage would be doubly hilarious if they make it so 3rd person view is for ECM mechs only.

This is such bs .. i dont know who it is that keeps pushing for this 3rd person view .

is it the devs children ??

a large investor ??

marketing guru ??

The wife ??

WTF .. its been debated 3rd person view adds nothing to the game. takes dev time away from pressing issues .

This action may actually do more damage to the game, as it will add complexity. They will need to take the proper time to balance third person for each mech, and how it interacts with the maps. Thus far their track record in this regard has been lackluster.

Why cant they be happy with staying focused on the core game play mechanics what is so difficult on staying focused on polishing the game play.

those who want 3rd person view .. go play gundam capsule fighter.

i would rather them spend time on collisions . more mechs more maps and the freaking end game.

rather than waste one kilobyte in code to support 3rd person view.

Focus focus focus , stop chasing dream features that will do nothing for the game .

would seem they are STILL actively trying to do this to us. I give you a scene from the 2009 movie Avatar. While they are arguing things about the RDA and the Avatar program, namely Jake Sulley, this applies to us. WE are Dr. Grace Augustine in this, PGI is Parker Selfridge:

Not that it was a surprise, but good to see moron 3rd person view still getting wiped out in the polls...again...and again...and again. And I won't spend a dime more on the game till they forever and all time remove the threat of this absurd mode of play.

They need to specify EXACTLY what they mean by 3rd person, because what most of us associate with 3rd person is UNACCEPTABLE. There have been numerous ideas mentioned in this very thread that involve '3rd person views' (cockpit screens ect.) which I would imagine few of us would object to. Third person view as an option in general gameplay? no. As a segregated game mode? Horrible idea.

Waits for Egomane to fix the poll so the third option is Abstain

Or is that only in the Suggestions forum?

Here is what PGI is failing to consider: The Founders Program and how the game was Advertised and described to us, Prior to and during said sale. In short: we were sold a game that was designed to be a 1st person only game. They made it clear that was the goal and described it as one of the "Key Design Pillars."

Then Russ Bullock goes on a No Guts, No Glory Pod cast and to no surprise to most of us, declares that they are considering the implementation of 3rd person views. We all start threads and Polls declaring clearly our desire to NOT have such a feature. Now, they have all but confirmed such a feature is STILL being added. They are opening the door and escorting us THROUGH that door right into viable litigation country....

I would prefer MWO to stay first person.

To me, it seems like the somewhat limited field of view you get from being in a mech cockpit is one of the things that makes MWO truly unique. That, along with the care and effort PGI has put into designing the mech cockpits and startup animations makes a 3rd person mode just sound silly.

I fail to see how it isn't clear that this is an unwanted, time-wasting feature. It isn't even like there is just a vocal minority, no one wants it. Period.

I don't even care if that tweet from earlier was just a facetious, off-the-cuff remark by an overconfident intern who found the password to the twitter account.

This can never be said enough and this thread can never have enough pages. Third-person rips the heart out of Mechwarrior multiplayer. Any of us who played MW4 can tell you that right away and it will do the same to this game if implemented in that fashion. It is a totally boneheaded idea even compared to consumable coolant flush. It is awful, terrible, bad, atrocious, horrific and deserves all the rancor that this forum can heap upon it. Anybody at PGI who implements this deserves to have neighbours with really noisy dogs that yap-yap-yap all night and keep them awake. Yeah, that's right. I said it.

The newbie gamer who can't understand independent viewing and movement direction is a myth and doesn't exist. This is a basic function of a human body that our monkey brains instinctively understand. I'm sorry, but nobody who is dense enough that they struggle with that beyond the first hour of playing (and even, it's just a control scheme issue and not a conceptual one) would even be able to operate a computer effectively enough to browse to this website and download this game. They may not even be able to form sentences or sit upright. That audience does not exist.

So I guess what I'm really trying to say is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
