The only way 3rd person should ever be implemented is like in a solo training ground (sandbox). The new players can use it to figure out how to pat their head and rub their stomach at the same time, then play in first person like everyone else.
See your thinking the devs are just gonna slap any 3rd person view. It could still be coded where if its not in your pilots line of sight its then the nme mech isn't rendered at all.
We don't KNOW what they have in mind.
Lets see it, its exploitable, take it out. easy.
You mean they wouldn't slap in 3rd person raw like they do with everything else, especially how they handled ECM? haha!
They'd just drop that crap in and "fix it" later. Which would take forever.
They are the masters of putting something in without much forethought. (it would seem.)
The loss of the poll is on me. I merged the two duplicate third-person view threads which has, as a consequence, uncovered a forum issue where Polls remain saved but disappear from public view. Don't worry, we are aware of your concerns and opinions regarding third person. I am locking this thread and ask all players to continue this conversation here: http://mwomercs.com/...s-poll-revived/
Appreciate the response, and the 'my bad'. This isn't the first time this has happened to a very popular poll though and that time it was the same thing thread merging broke the poll. Is there a way we can either not have clearly popular polls merged (in the interest of protecting them from accidents) or have this issue looked into and fixed so it doesn't happen again.
I understand the merging thing and the interest in keeping the boards as clear as is possible but as I said previously incidents like this serve to fuel the baffling paranoia that runs rampant around here sometimes. Also It's nice to be able to reference teh polls later for our own nefarious purposes.
Anyway thanks again for a quick explanation.
EDIT: I can haz splleing

Aye, I would prefer that the threads don't get merged, just lock and/or remove the duplicate thread.
I completely understand the mods merging duplicate and popular threads, unfortunately leaving it on the community to NOT make duplicate threads is like asking the rats to take care of the cheese.

Okay folks, here we go again. As we all already know, they <PGI/IGP> are 'considering' the addition of third person views. We had a poll in which over 5000 people voted and said no. That poll has well, been altered to remove the poll itself. So, vote again.
Any poll where the trolls can vote all options, even contradictory ones = uselessness incarnate.
can you post the results from that poll here so we have a basis on the argument that 90% hated the idea of 3rd person view (since the data is there just not publicly viewable)
so we dont get the "75% of statistics are made up" people who dont know there was a previous poll that DOES back up those numbers

The post where they say they are considering it is in november... it's not listed on any of the roadmaps..or upcoming fixes in the developer corner..
I don't see how it appears at all that they are moving on this.
Is CW on any of those (other than the "later in the year" that we got this week?

Apparently it's too difficult for them to make a video, in about 30 minutes, explaining torso twist and movement mechanics in a simple enough way that a console kiddie could understand. So they come up with adding in a whole new mechanic based upon months of work.
Right makes sense to me....

I voted "don't care" because the result I wanted is not on there. I think a separate game mode with 3rd person could be just fine. Possibly a training simulator type thing, or make it an option for sandbox mode only.
Otherwise I vote no to 3rd person view in regular games.
No it was, and NO it remains. The one and only caveat that I'll add to that is that it MIGHT be acceptable in some sort of training mode so that new pilots can get used to the torso twist on a mech. In competetive matches? No, no, no, never!
As the original Mutliplayerbattletech was destroyed by EA this game is being destroyed by Know nothing kids, that cant think beyond thier sight. 3rd person in this game will destroy it simple as that. The first game 2500 people a night dropped 15 minute rounds 8 on a planet skill was your tool you fought and die to better players till you beat them then your skill level was in the zone. I took pride in my growing ability to improve after many battles here same thing I feel good about what i can do without hacks cheats or 3rd person bs this is suppose to be challenging a tough learning curve Every game made today most can finish in one sitting Crysis 2 went through that 5 times in every mode nothing is challenging but the people who play and do there best in this game get better and make it a challenge for the rest. People make this game and hope all will continue but 3rd person goes into battle i see 3 times the people leave then whos already taken a break from playing then all the know nothing kiddies will have another brainless kiddie game to play

Third Person/Respawns are both points that will make me play something else. I am not an arcade game player, nor do I desire to play an arcade game.
this... i mean, i am big enough of a battletech fan to keep playing MWO regardless... but it would be very very sad, and MWO probably would drop some positions in my "games of favour" list... i just don´t want that to happen... that´s for both respawns and 3rd person combat
the simulation feeling - at least for me - is a major part of what makes the game what it is...
