Wow you guys get worked up easy. It's hard for me to get defensive over something I don't own. I don't have either of these mechs, nor will I anytime soon. Sure the catapult has better torso twist, better survivability based on it's model design, and comparable loadout to a mech 5T heavier. The only point I'm making is about keeping the configurations as similar as possible, and the mechs shown had different engines. That is all. :D

Keeping the different mechs as similar as possible while ignoring the strengths of those mechs is the flaw we're pointing out to you. Put it this way... I can build an Atlas DDC with the same engine and loadout as a Raven 3L, but what does that prove?

I don't always brawl in my mechs.. But when I do, I take my 2X!
After much tweaking, this suites me best:

STD 300
2 LL
AC20
2 SRM4 w/ Art.

The CTF-2X is a good Mech i liked driving mine, and it is still in the Hangar, atm i am getting money for
the Trebutchet and there is a Founder/Hero Mech better.

The CTF-2X is a good solid Mech, nothing fancy, nothing thrilling,
and thats maybe a reason why lot of people Change to other Mechs.

And the AC/20 build together with the M-Lasers and SRM4 Launcher is not Crap.
Massiv Damage compared with Spread damage is one of the best Methods of killing a Mech fast.

My record was 5 Kills mostly alone and about 380 damage done.
Simply cutting the enemy down.

It has nearly the same Point Damage as a Dual AC/20 Cat + additional SRM damage + AMS cover
without the Drawbacks of being slow or having no secondary Weapons etc...

So it's on the boring side of the life, but a solid and good killer.
And maybe the boring part makes it rare on the Battlefield.

Seems like you're making a mistake, putting that AC20 ammo in your arm.

nah its the best place for ammo other than the leg. because anyone who deliberately shoots the arms of a cataphract clearly has no clue what theyre doing.

And the reason why I dislike the Cataphract is the low weapon mountings and the massive center torso. Both of those are horrible features on a mech. The Catapult is better IMO because its weapons are mounted up high so you can shoot over hills without completely exposing your center torso.

I own both Catapults and Cataphracts and I don't agree that the CTF can't use XL's and the CPLT is free to use them.

The whole notion seems a bit silly that the CPLT is superior because it's side torso is so hard to hit. If the side torsos are so darn hard to hit then where are all the shots going? They aren't going against the ears unless the person has terrible aim or wants to ear them, so that means either CT or head. If the side torsos are hard to hit then the CT or head are easy to hit. Neither seems particularly superior to me.

The side profiles of both mechs are fairly different as well. The CTF can hide it's torsos by turning sideways and arm shielding. The Catapult can still be shot in the side of the nose from more angles and has smaller shield arms by far. The Catapuls can roll damage between it's torso easier with less turning required whereas the mostly flat nature of the CTF requires you to turn more to get that shield arm in the way.

Basically what it comes down to is as long as you know how to torso twist to spread damage and shield with arms on the CTF it will protect it's torsos just fine.

You guys are some haters. Yeah its not as good as the catapult. I'm still putting out top damage almost every game. Step outside of easy mode and play something other than the top builds.

Playing in the random queue is always easy mode, no matter what you're driving.

When I play my catapults I mostly get shot in the arms, center torso, and legs (while jumping).

When I play my cataphracts I mostly get shot in the center torso and side torso. And I've noticed the cataphract dies considerably faster. Maybe because a cataphract's center torso is easier to hit from the side? I dont know. I just know cataphracts die very quickly.

Even when im fighting cataphracts i kill them faster than any other heavy mech.

Thats not true unless you're in some kind of premade. You never know what team mates you'll get as well as opponents. Maybe you'll get 4 non ecm lights vs ecm lights with streaks. Maybe you'll get 2 disconnects. Maybe you'll get all trial mech users that LRM at close range and like to aim behind a moving mech while constantly stand still. Maybe you'll get someone who likes boating PPC from a distance but has the small disadvantage of never hitting the target. These things can factor in.

Reply to the OP,

The reason the 2X is not a regularly used brawler is that it should be a sniper/support build. You can tweak her to run at 70 KPH, 2x PPC, 1x Gauss and it can spat 10 LRM plus BAP. Or add streaks if your worried about having some close range ability. You have to watch heat closely but this is what the 2X should be used for.

That being said he 2X is nearly useless because of how fast the game is. Added to the fact that there's not a really good sniping map and you get a mech that is currently under-used.

No, the fact that you're not facing a full, organized premade makes it easy mode even when you're solo.

Facing a full 8-man team rocking complementary builds with VOIP is normal mode. Facing a top tier Corps in an 8-man team rocking complementary builds with VOIP and practiced, well-established tactics is hard mode.

Everything else is easy mode.

Any time you run a 8 man premade team, you are guaranteed to have experienced players on your team and enemy team. While the skill levels vary, at no point in time are the odds stacked against you the way they can be in a random game. Maybe if half your 8 man team disconnected, and only 4 of you have to play against a 8 man, would you get a similar challenge to a random game, where you are stuck with useless players and have to pretty much carry the team to victory.

Forget brawling. If you wanna make Dragons and slow Mediums look silly, take this 86.6 km/h monster out for a spin.

Is carrying a doorstop team to victory against an equally random team supposed to be a challenge for an experienced player?

Sometimes you get equally bad opponents. Sometimes theres a 4man or two mixed in. It can be challenging. More importantly its more fun than playing the same team mech compositions over and over in a 8 man.

That's pretty much the 2x config I use, but I have Artie on mine. Damage is good, but very range limted. If you see this mech you are probably in combat with it.

Its like a mini Atlas. I know the missiles won't all come out at once, which sucks, but other than that it looks kinda solid to me. But I don't think I've ever see it on the field.

Interesting fit, although I count 14+ free slots so you could Ferro it for increased brawling time, giggles and the "Why won't it die" factor.

the two SRM6s would need to be in chain fire. but other than that its probably a decent brawler. not as good as an A1 for sure. but still pretty good.

FF doesn't allow you to increase armor values, it just weighs less. A little less weight savings than Endo Steel.
