Off the top, I'll admit I've only been playing for a month and have yet to pilot any purchased mech other than a 'Phract variant (got my master module). However, I've jiggled in and out lots of weapon and engine types to see what I like best. I initially tried being a brawler (lots of lasers, fiddle with the heat, circle, circle...) then a LRM-boat (lots of assists, few kills, kinda boring, but safe) and a sniper (Dual AC or Gauss, slow feet, tend to get harassed by lights) but I think I've settled on what I like, at least for this chassis.

I upgraded my engine, dropped a few weapons and have gone for a light cavalry approach... quickly moving around the fringes of the battle, softening up heavies for my comrades (AC/20) with hit and run tactics that use cover to get back out of sight. As the battle progresses, that kind of morphs into a sort of jackal mode, where damaged mechs get cored by the same AC and finished with pulse lasers. I RARELY go toe-to-toe with anything, instead doing quick passes between cover and allies and making my AC shots count.

I've noticed my K/D ratio improving as a result... this is the only build that is getting me 3 kills per match (not consistently, haha, no way) and it's a lot of fun to play. It's high-risk, though... as when I have a "bad" match, I have a HORRIBLE match. I'm either the first one to die, or the last one... Usually it's due to miscalculation and attempting to flank a mech and turning a corner to find myself in the middle of four or more. That's a downside of a big engine in a heavy chassis... hard to react quickly. At that point it's usually try to find an open spot to break through the other side of their formation, try to hit something on the way through, jink and zigzag as much as a 70 ton frame will let you at 84kph, then pray for no crit back-shots before you find cover.

It's exhilarating! Feels kind of like a jousting knight sometimes.

What's your preferred style? I know you've tried them all but, what do you keep coming back to?

Try to survive with 10 FPS. Well it WAS that till I stopped playing.

To be more specific, the kamikaze style. I assume I'm going to die so I try to do as much damage as possible before the inevitable.

Wing Chun

On topic, I like range/brawler hybrids. Stay at range until I see an opportunity to push.

I've only been playing since Sunday and only in trial mechs. I do not have my own yet. But I have done the best in the Hunchback 4SP, then the Awesome AWS-8V. I have many more kills than deaths in those vehicles. I like the Cataphract a little less but it's okay too. I am afraid to try the spider. I have seen what Ravens do to small mechs. I am still figuring out my style, if I have one. I like fighting in close with the 4SP. But I also like hanging back and supporting my team mates at a distance with energy weapons and missiles. I guess maybe so far I just like to be part of the team somehow, either up close or as a fire support.

Incorrect use of comma, -10 points. Please see your nearest grammarnazi for reeducation.

(Abject apologies, I couldn't resist. I'm a terrible person)

brawl and run- now that i was shown how to make my hunchies fast enough to actually do so. a vast improvement from brawl and die before i could get away that i was formerly using. still get the clunker match of course.

I prefer to circle big, slow mechs up close, or play hit and run with them at range. Usually with a fast medium or heavy.

I do not like tangling with lights at all. Because they do to me what I do to heavier opponents.

I found a home in Brawling from mid range-in, particularly against heavies and assaults in my CTF-4X. I try to get them one on one because that thing does not have a lot of speed in the configuration I have it in. When I play my centurion I play hit and run because I know I have the speed to hit and then out run most of the mechs out there.

I like to push defensive lines and pick off stragglers with a boatload of MLAS and SRMs, while also packing an ERLL or two LL so I can still reach out and slp someone at range.

Scouting and exploiting any weakness I see in the enemy in my Jenner. Will pick on lights, stay away from all others unless they're engaged. I prefer the Jenner over all other chasis.

I try to be flexible in my builds and my play style. I usually do a mix of mid-long range hard hitting support, yet I brawl against targets of opportunity who I know will drop pretty quickly. I tend to get in and out of combat pretty quickly. Hit, move behind a building, move out, hit, repeat.

No reason to commit to a fight when you can hit and fade and still get the same results.

I also like to exploit weaknesses in lines. I try to be a wedge.

Long range support , soften them up for my team .

I also have the low fps bug , which makes close in brawls almost impossible.

But I really enjoy this game none the less. :(

Step 1: Run around like crazy
Step 2: Flail arms, shoot random bad guys
Step 3: Die, in a fire.

No, mostly I play fire support with dakka and/or large lasers. Try to stick to the back or sidelines, and coordinate fire with the main brawlers. On occasion I play a faster, striker role and look for open backsides with 8 Medium Lasers :(
