No, it is just plain out of proportion. It should not be in the game at all, as it currently works.

Doc actually has a better thread for this.

I've read it, but I still disagree; if anything, the effectiveness of missiles should be reduced, BAP, TAG, NARC, Artemis, etc should improve them to where they are now, and ECM should counter those AND THAT'S IT. Then let anyone mount ECM.

ECM has additional capabilities in higher levels of play that do play around with enemy sensors. They don't completely jam them like they do now, but they can be used for other things than jamming just Beagle, Artemis, C3 and Narc. The modules are suppose to be the meta game -- keep them meta game level, and make it to where only meta gamers will end up having access to them.

ECM is a "Anti PUG Measure" in a game that relies on the financial backup of PUG players.

But but but LRM Armageddon was the Bane of PUGs making it a Trench Warfare - that was bad bad bad !111

How do you think about the solution to give one side the "Cloak of Invisibility" while taking away the Trench from the other - gives this a good good good gaming experience ?

In the current form i will wait until "Solaris" alike tournament gameplay is implemented and stay away from CW as much as possible.

And this is why it will kill the game, which I am just as happy about at this point.

Sure ECM can get annoying but it adds another layer of tactics and changes the dynamics of gameplay which I enjoy and overall I like it. I'm not against further balancing of it but I also don't think ECM is some mega weapon that is an instawin.

BTW I rarely use ECM myself (probably only about 10% of the time maybe less) and I only pug.

Unfortunately that new layer of tactics is the only one used. Just move in blob and have a short range rumble. Current ECM implementation pretty much ruins this game.

If ECM had been made a module would that have made you angry?
Would it be better as a module and not regular equipment?

Really, I wanna know

I'm. . . uncertain. On one hand it would have made it less prevalent, and something with a genuinely limiting cost. On the other hand, eventually everyone would have it if it were a mod. It also how doing that would also have scrapped a fair number of mech designs, which would be unfortunate.

I'd accept that a more or less final version of the game could use this version of ECM without issue. Right now though there is no integrated player training - enough people to notice have absolutely no clue, and a lot of people haven't got the understanding to be very effective; and the only coms available are the freebie C3i (canceled by ECM), text (you might as well power down your mech), and third-party VOIP (have to drop together). Its at least premature, if not a "fix" to a problem with some of their core game mechanics.

This is buried so no one will probably see it but as it stands, ECM is improperly implemented.

In MWO ECM does the job of 3 pieces of equipment for the price of one. Instead of one ECM module we should be seeing:
Guardian ECM
Angel ECM
Null Signature

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Guardian_ECM
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Angel_ECM
http://www.sarna.net...ignature_System

This. This several times. Just give it less functionality. I voted neutral, but only because it's a good idea.. just too powerful.

Make it effect the individual mech and enemies only, and I'd be OK with it. The Angel-ECM like effect is my biggest gripe.

I have Star Trek Online up in another window, at least until I manage to get my hands on a Neverwinter beta key.

I am a plain bad mech pilot; anybody who has seen me fight in a dragon or a hunchback can confirm this.

But when I get into my Craven 3L all of a sudden I turn into this mean a-s-s mech pilot that sometimes even does twice the damage of his entire team and can take down 2 enemy mechs in a 1 vs 7 situation before dying? No, of course not. It is the mech that makes it sooooooo easy to be of value to my team: ecm + streaks + target decay + network lag!

Please, developers, take away the stealth aspect from ecm, especially the cloaking-your-team part. Then take away the counter mode. In effect: make ecm the way it was in tabletop and then tweak it until it is right (should have done that from the start). Make ecm available to every and any mech variant just like the beagle active probe.

Put stealth armor in the game which only cloaks your own mech, but which anybody may equip. Maybe put stealth armor on all hero mechs to have them really be "hero", yet, still, anybody can give their mech stealth armor through c-bill purchase so it would not be pay-to-win.

Oh, I forgot to mention: "Streak missiles may be fired at units affected by ecm device, but they function as standard missiles".

Ohh for heavens sake, have we not had enough of this OP whinning of the EMC now?
ECM is very good, period but that doesnt make it OP in any way.
It takes tonnage and slots and it doesnt give you damage or skill.
It is the Skill of the pilot, the weapon damage and the tactic of your team that decide who win.
ECM is just part of that tactic. With ECM we get more tactical possibilites in the field of battle,
and while some obviously find ECM annoying and OP I for one just find the increased difficulty refreshing.
Lets instead of whinning now adapt and improve as Mechpilots and win glory and honor on the field of battle!

That said I wouldnt mind to have the ECM installed properly as of the tabletop rules.
I dont know why PGI has decided to make it more powerfull than it originally was,
maybe the thought it was to weak but then the Beagle also should be improved.

As CDLORDS wrote I think

Instead of one ECM module we should be seeing:
Guardian ECM
Angel ECM
Null Signature

I know, but the developers seem so much in love with their own ingeniousness they call ecm-stealth mode, I just doubt they will ever be willing to give up the idea completely. That is why I made that particular suggestion - I would not mind if cloaking were completely removed from the game.

It certainly makes the game a bit more interesting, but some pug's are getting too bold, because of no knockdown....so they run around and many times deliberatly in the back of heavier ones...:D
But overall i'd say i'm neutral on this one

Well, then you're in luck. There is no "cloaking" in MWO, never was. A "cloak" by definition, would allow an enemy Mech to stand within your LoS and not be visible. Word is, doing that in MWO is a very bad idea... :D
