I make it a point to kill other assaults (especially Victors and Highlanders) first when in an Awesome. I especially love baiting two or three other assaults into a crowd of friendlies because they "smelled and easy kill".

Nothing more satisfying than killing the "superior" assaults in my Awesome!

I have a thing for going after Stalkers in my Awesomes, since it is fun to kill the mech that mostly obsoleted my big, angry barn doors... hehe...

3 weapon groups
1 ERPPC for long shots (you could switch to regular ppc too as you have good firepower under 90m anyways and heat will be easier to manage)
2 LPL + 3 ML for under 300m

with 19 DHS and a std300, it run cool and fast if you don't alpha all the time
tell me how you like it

The best Awesome build I ever came up with was an 8Q with 7 Medium Pulse Lasers and maxed-out on heatsinks and armor. I don't remember the engine besides it being an XL. On most maps I could alpha 4 times before shutdown, 3 times on warmer maps. 1-on-1 against an Atlas was a dead Atlas in 2-3 alphas, depending on your aim. I could core the head on an Atlas in one alpha, but rarely did I get the chance to do that.

The pulse lasers do more on-point damage, mostly because they have a shorter "on-time" than regular medium lasers. The heat is easier to manage if you go to medium lasers, and you may do more damage, but you'll have a harder time dealing with lights and coring mechs with alphas.

Also, the pulse lasers now have an amazing sound effect. Really cool to listen to them recharge.

One more tip: if on Cauldron (or whatever that stupid map is called) switch to chain-fire. You won't overheat nearly as quickly. In fact, if you use Medium Pulse Lasers and chain-fire them you can fire for a long time without overheating on any cooler map.

i run all awesomes.

you picked the worst one, sorry.

i haven't been able to make the 8q work, even though i have all other 4 non mc variants mastered and doing ok.

idk what it is about 8q, but i would suggest 3 large pulse and 1 or 2 erll

Large pulse lasers are the go to weapon for the 8Q. They have a very similar pinpoint damage as the PPC, are only limited in maximum range not minimum range which is a death sentence for an awesome as a blind monkey could hit one with a pea shooter at less than 90m.

I also tend to go for as big an engine as possible usually go for either a 300 std or xl swapping out ES where necesary for more DHS. Also alpha strikes in an awesome are to be only reserved for one of two situations. The entire enemy is at near maximum effective range and you have your whole team between you and your foes (this is a fire support mech after all). Or your in the sh*t and you need a do or die last resort.

I'm trying this with good results:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...63513db6010b2b3

(The medium pulse lasers only get used as a last resort as above as no more heat sinks can be squeezed in so they just take the empty weapons slots).

Or if you simply must Alpha everything in the face:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8cbc593c83a7ae4

Or if you really want to give someone a bad day sniping (and then hope that no-one comes close as you only have 3xml for defense):

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...55c3e1c2b6ea683

The PPC's can be fired almost constantly 1 per second (4 second cool down divided by four weapons).

XL version and slightly more heat efficient of above:

AWS-8Q

Been having some outstanding games in this one recently. LPL's are so much fun.

There's always the old ghost heat avoidance setup.

2xLL + 2xPPC, you can run 3xSPL in the remaining slots and get some extra inside 90m firepower for the close fight.

well heres 2 large pulse - 1 large - 3 mediums - 21 doubles - with 416 armor
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...5d5ba7bca186ec8

or the mid pulse version with large laser instead of lrge pulse
3 mid pulse 1 medium laser - 3 large
use the mediums and 1 large laser for up close
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9d2d943f2348acb

this ones close to original poster build

No ams in favor of another heatsink and Standard 300 with good armor

21 doubles - 1 er ppc - 2 large lasers - 3 medium lasers - 480 armor - 66.8 kph
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6cc38957ec5bb39

or 2 large pulse lasers - 4 medium lasers - 1 medium pulse lasers -480 armor - 66.8 kph - 21 doubles
Two medium lasers and 2 large pulse lasers are both on the right torso for better accuracy

AWS-8Q: PPC

AWS-8Q: Large Pulse

It's gonna boil down to either of these for me. The 8Q just isn't all that much compared to the 9M hardpointwise, it has a much lower pricepoint though if you are just looking to master the chassi.

Either loadout is fine, 3xPPC's can seriously rip a target up. You can dish out a good 125-150 damage before you peak your heat when chain firing on heat neutral maps if you are accurate. The ghost heat on an Alpha strike is not horrible provided you have time to retreat and cool off. Just make sure you don't sit and try to skirmish something like an Ilya Muromets at 600 meters or so and you will be fine. The AMS and BAP are just for some extra utility for your team.

The Large Pulse is pretty good after the buff and three of them with 20+ DHS can deal a ton of damage. Again try to play a supportitive role for a more dedicated brawler like an Atlas. Your DPS is pretty high and effective vs any target if you are accurate. The Medium Pulse is mailny for zombiemode.

Don't forget to use your left arm to soak damage, it is big and will absorb most LRM's if you twist. You have the widest torso twist of any Assault mech, use it.

Last time I used the 8Q I had an XL (320-340 can't remember which), double heat sinks and as many large lasers as I could fit.
Only reason I got rid of it was to buy the next AWS on the list for mastery, it was a vicious mech..I called her warcrime and she lived up to the name.

An alpha would drop most things or at least remove a limb, she could cycle heavy lasers non stop for a whole match without overheating.

I too love the underdog hence being one of the few regular Pretty Baby pilots, so tempted to pick up another 8Q for the lols.

That'd be quite the feat in an 8Q, since the engine rating is capped at 300.

Then I'd guess it was 300..the "last time I used" and "can't remember which" kind of gives away that it was some time ago.

AWS-8Q with Double HS upgrade, STD 275 engine.
2 PPC in right arm on chain fire
1 PPC left chest (set to single fire but also in a 3 PPC alpha)
2 ML right chest
1 ML head (all ML on chain fire)
AMS 1 tonne of ammo
Double HS everywhere you can

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ed5b082611bb712

Two successful assault games in a row on River City and Alpine Peaks, but this is feeling like a great build and totally agree on tactics - not a front-line mech. Very definitely a behind-the-brawlers support.

Must admit I am never sure just how much armour to slot but I like a bit more on the rear as those pesky lights like shooting me there..... a lot.

This build as i have just discovered is VERY dangerous but keep an eye on the heat and don't let an enemy mech get behind you:

Both games below were played immediately after the build and back to back.

Havent used the awesome for a long time and i also lost a good suport/brawl build but now im again looking forward on buying one.

so ive come up with this build:[smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4be7a52af40f93c[/smurfy]

Seems like a good sniper/support mech but i cant tell for sure untill i try it.
It has 20 DBL Heatsinks(40 in total) wich can help to keep you cool for around 30 sec if you Alfa the LPL's and ML's , and each Alfa gives you 37 DMG every 3 sec meaning you can Alfa 10 times(depending on maps heat) making you this way dangerous at close range.
You can also use the LA as a shield so you can avoid damage to the torso wile under fire or crosing through an opening making it a very helpfull tool to keep you alive longer.
Since it runs with 70 Kp/h(Speed Tweak) you are very fast and mobile becoming this way a threat for slow assault and heavy mechs like STALKER and ORION and with this speed you can also hunt some mediums like HUNCHBACK wich are slow and kill them fast with your lazers.

This is what I run in my AWS-8Q.

Add in the PPC range/cooldown module and the MPL range/cooldown module and have fun, truckloads of fun.

Try this one: AWS-9M

Intresting but most maps are close range and id prefer it to have good close range firepower and heat eficiency.
But still its a good build ;) .

I've just started using this build on an AWS-8Q 2 days ago and so far I've been doing well as long as I don't make a gamechanging mistake with where I go. Achieved several 3 to 4-kill (about 4? 5?) matches out of 15 or so. I have a feeling the build can be furthered improved though.

Engine: 275 STD
Internals: Standard
Armor: Standard

4 Medium Pulse Lasers
2 Large Pulse Lasers
1 PPC

Rest of weight on sinks and armor to your flavour.

Alpha when you start hitting an enemy, alpha again if you are cool enough. Too hot? Sustain your damage with the lone PPC. Under 90m and too hot? Chain-fire.
