About RD, as I said before, there are apparently scenes/stories in the show, that may be interpreted as hints into that direction, and simply dismissing them due to "it being a kids-show" is a no-go when objectively analyzing something, so it is valid to be brought up in a discussion.
The point about this discussion in particular is that I don't believe either of us came up with that idea originally, but that it has existed for quite a while, because this interpretation is indeed plausible. However, there are other ways to "prove otherwise" than simply saying, "it's for kids, in fact it's not possible", which is what the whole discussion was about.

About that r34 stuff you are talking about, I must have missed that, because I've been following this topic for quite a while (as of page 13). You're actually right, something like this doesn't belong here in the first place, but so far it happened only once, and even that has kinda vanished, so no point getting upset about it.

I'm sorry jace, I just can't agree where when "Griffon the brush off" Was basically Dashes girlfriend coming to visit and them having a fight... That is the ONLY way I can see that episode as I've had friends who were involved that have been though pretty much the exact same thing. So I'm not only drawing from what I have seen, but personal experience also.



I choose to see them as a couple due to how they interact... how they seem around one another. I am sorry you do not see it in the same way, but I WILL respect that you do not, so if to you these are just two friends sharing a hug, that's awesome, but to me, they are a couple. And a cute one at that.

And if Shipping is paramount to R34 for you, I'd abandon the internet at the nearest possible exit.

Uhg... Sporkosophy has posted some dark stuff and gets a pass, but I get taged for shipping with a post containing pictures of shipping, Wow. In the show they're portrayed as just old friends and nothing more. Anything beyond that simply doesn't exist in the canon and is merely subjective interpretation/fan fiction. Drawing from my own personal experience as a bi dude, it's possible to have other guys that are extremely close friends without there ever being a sexual relationship.

Just because the show doesn't explicitly point out something, doesn't mean it's not there. To stay on the topic of shipping/sex, we obviously didn't see the Cakes in the bedroom, yet Pound and Pumpkin had to come from somewhere (and before you ask, Faust herself confirmed that this stuff happens through "old-fashioned mammalian reproduction" in Equestria). Physical intimacy does exist in the show's world, even if it's not shown on-screen to keep it family friendly.

About the Gilda/Dash example, I'd say that while it's admittedly an uncertain situation, "ex-girlfriend" is not an implausible interpretation.

Don't you think that's overly generalizing? You'd consider a simple romantic story the same fundamental kind of "wrong" (to be honest, I don't even get all this prudishness about sex in the first place, but let's not get into that) as all-out p***, just not quite to the same extent?

On a similar note, it seemed to me like you were tossing out some rather stereotyping blanket statements about fanfiction in general, and how they all derail the characters from the canon etc. Isn't it unfair to indiscriminately paint all fanfics with this brush rather than acknowledging that, like every other medium, they're subject to Sturgeon's Law and range from horrible to excellent? (If that wasn't what you meant, just disregard this.)

Plausible maybe, if you consider gay stereotypes to be evidence. Otherwise, the burden of proof lies with the people claiming that's what's going on, and there isn't any evidence for it in the show canon.

It's not kept out of the show just because the show has to be family friendly, it's kept out of the show because there's literally no reason to add it. Showing the entire pony reproduction process in graphic detail would have added absolutely no value to the story, except for letting a few creeps get their rocks off. And this is what most sexually explicit fanfiction is about, despite the fact that the authors and fans will vehemently argue to the contrary. I've explored far enough into the depths of other internet fandoms in the past to know that this is exactly what goes on.

Yeah you're right, it's not really the same thing. And honestly, G-rated shipping between OCs (see: Stormy Nights) doesn't bother me at all. When it's done in an M-rated context or with canon characters, that's what bugs me. It's like Sesambrot was saying, it's just lazy and stupid.

I've read a number of good fanfics that stay true to the spirit of the show and don't involve main characters cutting each other into pieces and/or having explicitly-described sex with each other. Unfortunately, these good fanfics are the exception rather than the rule. Not only are most clopfics and shipfics disgusting and borderline pedophilia, they're also horribly written because the author is too concerned with putting their twisted fantasies down on paper to worry about whether or not it makes any sense within the context of whatever story they're writing.
