Has to do with the way heat capacity works. some HS gives you bigger than tabletop heat capacity, meaning you can fire 6 ppcs, srm6's, etc. without a bit of fear of overheating for a bit of burst. I would like to see heat CAPACITY lowered and heat SINK RATE increased a proportional mount. this would favor non-boating mechs I think.

Well, as some people have suggested, having performance penalties as your heat climbs toward 100% would be quite nice. The mechanic already exists in tabletop, so they'd even have a loose framework to start from. Just something as simple as say...a 2% penalty in max speed and torso-twist speed per every 10% or 15% heat would go a long way to diversifying gameplay. After all, if there's an SRM6 Cat that spikes it's heat up to 50% every two volleys or so, it'll either need to hold it's fire, or will start to fall behind and have trouble keeping it's targets in view.

This is pointless. PGI keeps messing wit hthe stats, I for one am looking forward to the 6 ton, 2 crit slot, ERPPC that does 15 damage for only 11 heat.

Trst me Heat sinks are NOT working up to TT standards. My Pretty Baby with 2 PPCs and 2 SRM6(28 heat running) and 21 Dubs(42 Heat disipation TT) should never even come close to overheating on Caustic Valley, Alpha Striking in the Cauldron! But I can overheat in Ice Colony! A Thug fires the same payload nonstp on 16 Dubs TT. Funny thing is it did it since it's introduction back in the 80s.

actually, yes... on the other hand, my non boating mechs work pretty well at 16+ DHS... the disipation rate is good at those numbers...

Check your Maths Joseph. Of those 21 Dubs, only 13 are engine based provided the use of a 325 XL, so that leaves 8 @1.4. thus 26 + 11 = 37(.2)

This doesn't stop boats. It just stops you from firing large numbers of *any* weapons at a time. Sure, it'd also knock out the PPC boats, but that'd be more in the way of collateral damage. The heat system doesn't care where your heat comes from - the 24 points of heat generated when that catapult fires its 6 SRM6s is the exact same as the 24 points of heat generated when a stock HBK-4SP fires its 4 mlas + 2 SRM6s. If you try to penalize the catapult for 'boating' by reducing heat capacity enough that firing that battery of SRMs causes issues, you do the exact same thing to a perfectly normal stock design like the 4SP.

juuust one question.
..WHY should we stop boating? O_o

i dont think they are OP, it requires tonnage, crits and hardpoints to boat properly, and when you see some enemy boating, you know what to expect, and where to strike?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the TT alpha also take place over the span of ten seconds? As opposed to MWO, where every weapon is fired at once.

I do like the idea of a lower maximum heat, with faster cooling though. Even if it would make my 4xPPC Cat much less fun.

which is still well over the 28 points I fire. I was also using TT Heat factors since I am an opponent of the silly less than double double sinks.

I always thought there should be added heat component to proximity of the weapons. Nothing to crazy but something to consider. For mechs that are specifically made to boat. (hunchback and other variants) make them immune.

That or have dissipation lessen on boating.

Well, everyone also forgets about the heat that you take on just for moving and any ambient heat. But Mallan is right.
