Brought on my an "Ask the Devs" answer, the way it was worded insisted that NA will not be able to play on EU servers and vice versa. That causes some problems for Merc Corps and Factions who rely on both areas to promote teamwork

Segregation... and yes this is "SEGREGATION" is disastrous to both the game and its players, and undermines the big over-looming delicious cake that is "Community Warfare" that keeps getting passed around like the most popular cheerleader in a frat party, only finding yourself banging her hidious twin sister who's 2 feet shorter and has no *******, butt, legs, or any redeeming factor... at all.

The InnerSphere is basically on alert 24/7 responding to threats from every House player on themselves and makes Covert-Plan missions capable, yet risky. "oh you want to take over the sector IV at 1 am GMT?", "Fine, but there are a bunch a players in Hawaii and California ready to pounce on your ***. good luck to you". Now we're taunted with "80% of the playerbase is asleep at 4 am in the morning... here's the keys to sectors II through VI".

unless PGI gets smart and realizes putting a third server in the middle that takes care of pretty much everything and using the other two as a gateway/repeater fr updates to and from the Dev-Center. We would see a rise in both the player base and effective fighting.

I don't think that most people will even switch to EU servers if it means that people will be divided from each other.

It is... horrible, and it throws a middle finger into the face that is "COMMUNITY... warfare."

I am going to ignore everything under that last line, now, as much as I dislike people who lag around, I agree 100%.

Not only would this mess with corps with diverse members, I can think of quite a few founders who would be VERY upset about this. Also is the player base even large enough to support such a change? When you couple it with ELO, If I constantly ran into the same few people playing, I might not keep playing...

*Edit* And yeah, posting ponies is sabotaging your own post.

Maybe you don't care, but we with 250+ ping cares.

Third server in the middle...

You realize that the Atlantic sits in the "middle", right? Any sort of uplink between Europe and the US has to be bounced across satellites. You can't just slap a server in the middle of the stormy North Atlantic and run cables between Europe and the US.

Giving folks regional servers is just good business. I find it extremely difficult to play with 300+ ping, yet there are huge swaths of players who don't really have a choice. Regional servers are vital for the longevity of this game.

Allow us to build lobbies, though. We can still play with our far-off friends, we just have to compromise on the latency. If we drop into a matchmaking game, we should get a local server with a good ping.

figuratively, just because there's a middle man between two companies doesn't mean the guy is LITERALLY in the middle. It's a figure of speech.

Someone doesn't understand server architecture or networks.

In order to solve lag issues for worldwide players, you need a physical server that is physically closer to their location. You cannot shorten the distance between the EU and the US. You cannot run wired connections between the EU and the US. You have to rely on satellites to transmit across the ocean, and satellites are slow. Ergo, to eliminate the severe lag some players have to deal with, you must put a physical box in their locality and let them connect to that. There is no way to remove that lag that comes from hopping the Atlantic. The only way to do that would be to put a server equidistant between Europe and North America with a wired connection, and even then it would just split the latency evenly between the two areas and also BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC.

Giving non-US players their own local servers to connect to so they can play lag-free is vital to getting lots of players worldwide.

From a matchmaking point of view local servers are good, makes sure everyone has a fun clean match

From a community warfare standpoint local servers are terrible. They will be metagamed to hell and back and territory changes will go down at like 3:30-4:30AM while everyone is asleep

MWO keep me up at night... but as it still stands I don't think most people will switch if the EU server comes out.

Changes in ownership can be limited to certain timeframes so this doesnt happen. For example. You own planet canada. An enemy cannot attack planet canada between the hours of 10pm and 7am central standard time. They must wait until 7am to launch an attack(just as an example..)

Apparently you don't understand the architecture of networks either. Using words like ergo, and using CAPS LOCK doesn't make you right. There have been sub atlantic cables for over 100 years. Secondly, the player base might not be big enough to have a separate server in each region. A North American and European server might be all the splitting that the game can take. A South American, Pacific, and Asian server may not be popular enough and lead to player frustration due to not finding gimes.

I'm imagining something where I pick a couple territories or sectors and designate myself as a Guard. If that territory is being attacked at 3am, I get a text to wake me up and call me to battle.

Family and job be damned!

picture taken down due to hateful community members that are resistant to other people and their ideas... good job

Do you mean to simply say that you wish for a mega-server incorporating players from all regions?

I am under the assumption that CW will be different for EU and other regions. NA CW will not affect EU CW and so on.
