I vote no because:

1) it's not in keeping with the theme of the game, nor would it retain the immersive qualities it currently has.

2) it doesn't fit the technology as it stands right now (again, immersion), but if you wanted a HUD counter somewhere in the corner you could turn on, turn off, that might be a nice compromise.

3) as mentioned previously, it would be distracting for most and hard to implement to boot given the way some of the weapons work.

4) c'mon man....rompy stompy robots, not guild wars 2.

The reticle turns red when you hit.

At the end you get numbers. It's already in there.

Why do you need instant gratification right now? God it would make the game ugly. Yes, new players would use it. And have terrible ugly looking games the rest of their lives. Its like giving people only Coke to drink. Sure its delicious, but pretty soon you can't see your own weiner.

Because it is so arcade (make game feel like super mario bros, etc) and dont fit in MWO "mechsim" feel that it supposed to have.

I can see having the ability to have an alternate way to look at the damage readout of yourself or an enemy (like in mechwarrior 3 where you could have the bar graph or what not) or perhaps have two different damage screams if you chose. But floating numbers is.. just not simulator like.. and mechwarrior has always been simulator. Notably, MechAssaults is not Mechwarrior.

so when an lrm boat launches a volley, 20 little "1.8"'s pop up everywhere? and when a splatcat apha strikes, 36 "2.5"s pop up over different parts of the target? and when you rake a laser over the enemy, you get like a 0.1-0.1-0.1-0.1-0.1 across the screen as your laser covers different components?

as someone who clearly doesn't know how damage works in this game, i guess it's not surprising to see this sort of suggestion. no shooter/sim ever has floating text. action rpg's are one thing, but this isn't an action rpg

I AM still waiting for melee. In table top you could blow something's arm off pick it up and beat them with it. Literally.

it would complete the botch up along with TDM underway.

I would say that would be smart to have the option to use it or not. To me it doesn't seem that far fetched for immersion. People panicking in here bc a future computer system wouldn't be able to HUD that or something? Oh wait nvm PGI's version of mechs have less radar than a Vietnam era f4... ALSO.... It would really point out if hits even hit, which has always been an issue in every MW...

no, we dont need floating combat numbers, this is more of a sim than an arcade game as stated by devs...
they have addressed this in NGNG podcasts a few times...
I would however like to see percentages on my paper doll for my damage rather than colors

cross hairs turn red to indicate contact damage and stay green if you miss. :)

If you could toggle it on and off, you could use it to learn to lag shoot. The damage would have to be reported back from the server. I have team mates that get a red crosshair indicating a hit but feel no damage is being caused. So it might be nice to know what you actuall scored with an attack.

However I would rarely use it because it would destroy what little sim feel the game still has.

Now if some of those useless cockpit screens actually had a running total of the damage you had caused - that would be cool. Out of the way but available to peek at if you are feeling that some aspect of the client-server internet deal is robbing you of hits....you can check. Or you want to roughly compare artimeis and non artemic hits with LRMs on different mechs. Etc.
