Depends on how good you actually are in it. If I used a light, I'd probably still get my face kicked in for a while because I'm nowhere near an average pilot in one. The beauty of the system is that over time your score will become fairly accurate.

Hrm, it would be better if it were by chassis rather than class. I'm a much more effective in catapults than cataphracts, for example.

My real fear with ELO is that it's going to turn experimenting with new mechs and loadouts into a chore.

Which is why, in the end, they need some kind of sandbox where you can test things out without dropping into an actual game.

You would think that after seeing this posted by so many different people for months that they would have done something by now.

Won two PUG matches in a row today with no losses on our team then immediately got trounced twice in a row and had a few close matches so it all balanced out in the end.

That's actually really helpful, didn't think of it that way. The problem is once I get down to "no more premades" I way outclass your standard other solo guy, and it's right back to no fun stomping.

Guess I'll have to play with other people, which honestly won't be too bad.

Nonsense, I will sandbag 500matches just so I can play at your level and pubstomp your team to make sure you still have fun.

What would an example of Elo-gaming behavior be? Since Elo rating is adjusted based on wins and losses, doing your best to win is the best way to increase your rating, no?

Just take a look at LOL forums.. plenty of topics akin to - "ELO hell does exist!!" The idea that your better than your rank and claiming that because the other players on your random teams suck so bad that you cant go up in rank because you lose all the time. Denial. thats what you will see here.

Hah, my first assumption was "wow, my ranking must have me way higher than I actually am." Hopefully this is Dunning-Kruger in action.

Your Light and Assault Elo scores are in the 98th percentile. AKA you are going to be matched against the best players.

But shouldn't his team be made up of top 98th percent too? Instead he implies they are newbs

Not really.

Afaik, if say somehow you had 1 solo player with some stupidly high ranking, he may very well get a team full of noobs with 1400 ranking, because the system thinks his score is high enough to make up for that....and then beat the enemy team which is full of 1800 players etc.......

It doesn't know if you have been grouping or not afaik so some people will have very inflated scores....especially when they decide to drop solo for a bit........

8 mans were getting placed against full solo teams due to a bug in the Elo, something I noticed once in a while. They said they fixed it, so let's see.

Interesting...
It seems as though our ratings are heavily influenced by 'Mech chassis selection - I've definitely been paired up with and fought against very inexperienced players in my RVN-4X, average and good players in my CPLT-C1 and mostly great players in my RVN-3L and CTF-3D.

It's great.

Makes it less of a chore to grind XP for the most unsavory 'Mech variants.

Not chassis just weight class. All your ravens, commandoes, and jenners carry the same Elo.

After enough soul crushing defeats, your elo will be so low you wont have to battle pre-mades ever again.

Yeah but what if you are getting crushed while in a Premade? <_< And they/we still win?

Then i guess your premade isn't as good as the players your elo ranking indicates you should be facing you stomped to many pugs now you are being stomped.

basically like i said, the exceptional solo players that don't even need voip to play well are stomping the premades because those solo players are being grouped together against the premades.

Why do you need to see it? I'm well aware I'm far better in assaults than I am in mediums.
