They're skipping 9 to prevent the sensation that this is just 8 with some fixes and a little bit more jazzed up front end to turn your computer into an iPhone.

So it's the must have software. Must have because you won't have a choice, not because of actual substantial improvements from what I'm lead to believe.

Hope my info is wrong.

Your info is wrong.

They're skipping 9 because of the vast numbers of tools and accessories out there that, when attempting to detect your Windows version, use a wildcard to detect Win95 and Win98. I.e. Win9*. Which would then also pick up the brand-new Windows 9 if it were released.

Yes, there are still people who use Windows 95/98. And tools that support them.

Thus... Windows 10.

I found a reliable article that Win10 will be exchanged equal to the Win7/8 Version you have.
So a "Stand Alone Version" of Windows is not Hardwarebound - if they do it that way i will change to Win10 soon™.

I seen that if you have 7 32bit you can only get 10 32bit. I thought 10 was supposed to be 64bit across the board?

64 bit vs 32 bit is more of a hardware thing. You can run 64 bit Windows and 32 bit Windows on 64 bit hardware, but you can't run 64 bit software on 32 bit hardware.

I think the logic here is that if you are running 32 bit windows, you probably only have 32 bit hardware, so giving that customer the 64 bit version would cause problems.

Still no reliable info about the monetization sheme - some say Win10 is free for 2 to 4 years (Home/Pro) and then you have to pay for stuff yet to be decided.

I understand that they need to make some money but i will choose what is more cost efficient in the long run.

Win7 is supported past 2020 afaik...

PS: And right true - no 32bit to 64bit transformation...

Just install Win7 64bit. Problem solved. AFAIK Win7 licenses are good for both the 32bit and 64bit versions.(It's worked for me on 3 separate computers. Two of which were OEM versions.

Win10 is a free upgrade(for the first year of release), true, but any new copies, and more importantly, Enterprise is pay to play.

Win7 extended support ends January 14, 2020. (Mainstream support ended January this year).

I've been running Win10(Preview) since November. Doesn't seem to be any obvious bugs remaining.

Officially the only thing free is the upgrade, and its only free for one year. You can upgrade any edition of Win 7, 8, and 8.1 to the corresponding Win 10 edition until July 29, 2016.

Win 10 will always be for sale. They will still be selling it to the system manufacturers directly (ie Dell, HP, etc) and it will be in retail stores for purchase (for people upgrading from Vista and older and the roll-your-own hardware types).

The real "game changer" here is that once you are on Win 10, upgrades to it will always be free (until they announce differently I guess).

As for 32bit vs 64bit, for the most part the key you currently have should entitle you to both versions (retail packages contain both 32bit and 64bit). You can't upgrade to 64bit on top of 32 bit but you can reinstall the 64bit version using the same key (it just blows away the previous install so backup everything before doing so).

Win10 is an upgrade and depending on the Law in your Country it is not hardwarebound.
If you have a stand alone Version of Windows7 or 8.1 it is not hardwarebound anyway.
This is an exchange and you wont have to pay anything so far that is Standard Features and Security as far as it is known yet.
Of Course MS will try to make you use paid Services and the MS Shop and to monetize you in all legal ways.

MWO does run though it takes many times longer to start after you click "Play" on the MWO-Launcher.
The Daniel_K Sounddriver-Mod makes your x-fi play the sound well - if there is no sound a restart should help.
Fundamentally this Windows10 is as Beta as MWO is...
The performance is well good.

Sometimes the Win10 upgrade takes extended times of idling around - let it simply run and it will go through...
Disable autotmatic driver updates bcs Win10 will down and sidegrade them on its own if you let it run free - Google the how to.

I guess MS is reacting to the view of Users saying that every second Windows version is junk (Win 95, ME and Vista im looking at you)... so to fix the problem they are leaving out every second windows version to see if this helps :P .

I thought it was the Win 8 (the junk).

They are skipping the 9 because they don't want confusion with the 9x series (95, 98).

Well... feeback...

MWO is running perfectly fine after the late night install of Windows 10 yesterday... about 5-6 drops so far this afternoon and no problems at all...

Nvidia "glitch" where I couldn't get Nvidia Experience to install/work until I updated to the newest Geforce GTX Windows 10 driver... once that was in Experience was back and running fine... Shadowplay is working exellently as well...

So far?? Thumbs up from me...

... side note... for some reason my system won't "go to sleep" or turn the monitor off on it's own... weird... no biggy but odd... only issue I've encountered...

I run Win10 on a FX8350 and the Performance is about the same if not better/smoother - i have significantly increased the Settings to High and Very High but kept Particles and Post Processing on Low.

Clear the Shader Cache and take care to have installed all the new Win10 Drivers!
(Disable Win10 Automatic Driver Updates and take care yourself)

Don't even need to wait to download Windows 10; you can download directly, put it into a USB drive or DVD, and run it from there:

https://www.microsof...nload/windows10

I did this a few hours ago and Win10 runs just fine. Oh, and make sure to update your AMD or NVIDIA drivers to the latest version; both companies released Win10 drivers to coincide with the Win10 release.

On July 30th I ran mwo for about an hour under Windows 10 and encountered no problems so far. FYI I upgraded from Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit to Windows 10 Home 64 bit. Please do NOT take this for extensive testing of the new operating system.
