2 events running at the same time? I'm torn between playing my founder atlas for c bills or playing a mech I might stand a chance of winning an award in.
Actually who am I kidding, I probably won't get close to winning an award no matter what I'm in. C bills it is.

Isn't this contest essentially a grindfest and the winner will be whoever can stay awake playing the game the longest?
Doesnt seem any advantage to quality over quantity if you have the time for it.

Yepp, now PGI feels how difficult it is to set ANYTHING up without a lobby.

It will be exactly as you predicted, the one able to do the most games and maybe with tanking his ELO before the event starts, is going to win.
On the light mechs, it will be an Raven 3L pilot.

So since the outcome is THAT predictable, no much of a competition left.... its more like TV wrestling shows... anyone knows, its just show and kind of circus^^

A I will be running my DDC and be proud of my score because the Atlas isn't the "win" button that everyone makes it out to be. ECM protects you from being seen right away and from LRMs unless. .... You are Tagged Narced PPCed or someone is close enough with Sensor Range Modual. The Mech is big and slow and turns just about as fast as ....well lets face it its not fast at all. All of its punch is in its side torso and everyone knows to aim for the AC20/Dual LBX/Dual UAC5 gun first cutting it's damage by half. On top of all that anything faster has an advantage when you are playing solo and cant reliably call for fast movers to support you!

That and I am fairly sure this is just a fun way to get people to work the ELO system to its limits :P I thank them for thinking up this kind of thing.

I like the overall direction of this idea, but would like to have dedicated Solaris-VII server instead. For an open competition there are few major and minor issues which will impact all players gameplay expirience:

Raven RVN-3L in Light breket will ruin most PUG matches as usual, the difference is, that there will be waaay more those unbalanced creatures during weekend.
Alt+F4 farmers could negatively impact lot of matches too, as I see it.
Massive ECM equipped Mechs deployment will rip good LRM-carriers players out of their share of glory (don't count me as one, but I've definetely seen some good thinking players on LRM-boats around).

Nevertheless, I opt-in and hope that PGI will draw conclusions from what would happen soon (fix you know what and balance you know what!).

P.S. And yeah, I expect most intrigue to boil in the Medium breket, my prognosis for top-rating:
  • Overall: abused by RVN-3L + overfarmed by AS7-D-DC + something done in other classes
  • Light: abused by RVN-3L or overfarmed by really skilled pilot (I truly believe that skilled pilots don't use 3L untill it will be balanced)
  • Medium: no idea, maybe CNT-YLW
  • Heavy: CTF-IM or Splatcat
  • Assault: AS7-D-DC

I'm sure PGI will be watching the ECM variants very closely. I agree the 3L will be the primary choice for ECM & speed & firepower, however, a good Jenner can still outdamage and outkill a 3L in a match quite easily - so while you may be correct if it was 8v8 in all light mechs, since it is not, the 3L will be prominent but may still not win.

It's the first official tournament. It's a test... so calm down peoples :P

BrandeX ... there is no such thing as an aimbot in MWO. Try to use it. I'm sure that you just will loose some money and infect your PC with malware.

I don't have much time this weekend, but I will try to get some matches in my Founders Cat :D

My predication for the ranking:
Lights: Raven 3L (even if the Jenner has more firepower, the raven has more options)
Medium: Hunchback SP
Heavy: Splatcat
Assault: Stalker

Well I'm opting out of playing much, if at all, for the Raven 3L tournament weekend. Good luck to the rest of you.

It should be the person who can gain the highest score out of 10 games or something. Only people who will win this are the one's with no weekend job or are hardcore enough to play all day/night while living of coffee. Really think PGI should re think all this.

It is ok, if you don't want to sacrifice the time or don't have the motivation to be more "hardcore". But please, stop complaining . Serious tournaments are usually not for casuals ;-)

Nice idea, but I fear most players will just use their most cheesy mechs and configs during this weekend. Should have made it Trial-Mechs only. Equal chances for everyone, that's the way to determine who's a real hero.

Been thinking further about this tournament and the only issue I would have with it is this ->

1st tie breaker goes to the player with the most matches.

If the tournament is about skill, it should be based on the least matches not most. The way it currently is sends an entirely different message about the tournament i.e. this is not a serious tournament, it is just a way to get people to get online and play more.

Ah well, since it is a test run, let's see how they go about the next one.

Yepp, thats it. You are right.

PGI has done a lot of good things during the last patches and was generally on a good track. Even ELO is a fine thing to have and will help balancing pug matches.

But while implementing elo and willingly and knowingly thereby disabling the only tool for competitive gameplay ( syncdrops) is just... bad, since a lobby is no wizardwork^^

Iam quite happy now that they do this quasi tournament as it will show how difficult they made it for themselves to set a propper and fair competitive event up.

That is my concern too. I'm going to participate anyway, but I fear I won't be anywhere near the top10 because I won't be able to put in so many hours that some people will.

Flame me all you want, but you all know this will be won by aim bots. In game events are a great idea, but its just too bad that there is no way to stop the cheaters from cracking the game. I guess paying $25 to buy that added edge for a loser who can't aim makes them feel justified. I would actually be somewhat impressed if these losers actually knew how their crack worked or had any idea how to code it. Until PGI finds a way to detect and squash these pissants there is no point in even bothering to keep score. Fortunately there are enough rightous players to make most matches legitimate stompy robot fights. For the haters who have to cheat to get ahead, well nice work in driving a game you should love into the ground but your not fooling anyone.

Hopefully, PGI will be watching VERY closely and will call out anyone who gets an unusually high number of headshots and or "impossible" shots (such as hitting ECM mechs not in LoS at 900m, without having them TAGged or countered).

And anyone who claims "there's no such thing as an AIMbot in MWO" has either never gone up against one or uses one themselves.

Didn't I see somewhere that Founder and Hero rides get an added XP bonus?
Never mind that is something else this weekend!
