If you don't like it, DON'T PLAY IN IT. Your silence speaks volumes, because your words for the most part, do not.
Let them get a few of these under their belts before you **** off and start the waterworks... The last thing we need is for PGI to get gun shy for trying new things like this, because the constant QQ from the forum makes them clench everytime they even think about it.
It's a test, it's for fun, calm the **** down and play or sit out.

...so yeah, this "competition" is officially B.S. in my eyes now.

i also would not be surprised if highest scorers comprise of splat cats, and 50 damage alpha snipers
either way i love losing games where i have 1400 damage simply because its down to how good your teammates are. Has anyone ever had one of those? the only consolation is the mountain of dosh.

I run a Jenner JRD-7, it's fast and fun. It takes a lot of accuracy and patience to drive...but REALLY rewarding when you get it right. Some games you scuffle with the heavies and slowly take them down. Some games you catch a couple AC20s from a K2 and your down. Either way it is a blast.
Back to the tourny though. At noon today I launched and right away saw 2 Raven 3Ls on my team. I hoped it was a fluke...it was not. Almost every match came with 2-3 Raven 3Ls over 2 hours of playing. There is not strategy to playing with or against them. I HAVE to run with them if they are on my team, because there is almost always one on the other team. If i don't have one on my team than I just resign myself to getting a lucky hit and "legging" theirs before they Streak me to death.
Maybe we need some kind of Handycapping of mech variants. It doesn't take much skill to drive a 3L (or the COM2-D for that matter, but to a far lesser extent). It seems to me that if there was a handycap system of some kind, maybe less people would "flock" to the 3Ls as soon this ranking system is introduced. I'm kind of hoping they are tracking the leaderboards and watching what mechs folks are running. I know most of the high ranked light pilots I saw in game were running the 3L.
This is all just my humble opinion. It just seemed to me that the game got a lot more balanced and fun the less I saw that particular mech.

If it continues, this game will no longer be viable.

Much like Nascar, you can win the points leader having never won a race. The ones that are beating you in the class competitions are most likely only running those mechs. Since you are competing in all weight classes then your overall total is better than theirs.

But there is one BIG PROBLEM I have about this "challenge": the reward.
I'm not going to opt in for this challenge, meaning that I would put quite a lot of time to it, just for the chance of getting some silly cockpit banner!!!
Those banners mean nothing to me, they don't give me any advantage or make my gaming any more enjoyable. And, to be honest, it really is a great shame, that PGI has generously decided to reward its very best players with something as trivial as a little cockpit item. This is like saying: "Hey, don't you want to participate in this f***ing hard world championship? We'll even give you a nice sticker if you win!"
As this challenge is called "Be a HERO", why don't they give the champions one of the HERO Mechs as a present? This would be WAAAAAAAAAYYYYY more motivating for everybody to join in. For example, the first 3 players of each leaderboard could be given a Hero Mech plus those champion banners, and places 4-10 could receive another banner as kind of a consolation prize. This would be appropriate for a tournament of such size, and for the whole game 15 hero Mechs more or less mean nothing. Not to mention that Mechs, including hero variants, are only digital goods, so PGI does not have to pay any money to distribute them.
So what do you all think about this? Do you think a simple banner is worth all the work?
