Repair vehicles aren't non-canon at all; what of the JI-50 'Jifty' Repair vehicle and its successor, the JI-100, which could bring even critically damaged mechs back into the fray quickly as long as the reactor wasn't damaged?
However, I digress; in the current game-modes, repair vehicles just aren't feasible. Now, if we had something similar to, say, BF3's conquest mode, where battles can span out over an hour and a half, then repair functions would trule shine.
I wouldn't be opposed to introducing an 'ejection' system, on another note; before your mech's reactor goes off like a firecracker in a clenched fist, you have the option to bug-out, with a 50% 'injury chance'. If the injury chance fails, and your pilot-avatar is unharmed, you may drop (After a preset time penalty; SARS has to find your pod, after all.) in one of three other mechs chosen in your pre-launch mech-bay, essentially working as a 'respawn.' Since there are four trial mechs, this doesn't single out new players as much. If the injury chance succeeds, your pilot avatar becomes 'injured,' and you can't re-deploy for the remainder of the match.
As another possibility for long-term games, the re-deploy could wait until one team is eliminated.
