I would say no, ELO is good. Tighter tougher matches. More 1v2 1v1 endings and the drops are short and sharp if you don't pay attention. ECM matters less too I think. And it is just getting started. There are some recent distortions due to the tourney maybe.

Tourney was a good idea in many ways. Elo data, chance to shine, and rewarded team play with pilots who might not really count on each other. And again rewarded random team play. Bit of a code stress test too. Ecm = make it cost 5t. All other priorities rescinded.

Leedair, sigh.

I am 100% on your side. I love ELO (Elaine). You whould read the entire thread before you post in it, and perhaps a few others.

Like I said man, im on your side. What all the good guys want is balanced matches, ending in close games, 1v1 1v2 for example. I am glad to hear your opinion is that such close matches are a good thing, and wish your opinion was shared by all.

I read it all just worded my response funny. I was disagreeing with the ELO and ECM haters. Don't get me wrong, I don't use
ecm at all-heavy/medium driver-but the boating (srm ppc too) is no fun, just a trick. And if you can launch with a trick build no hate here. It will even out eventually. RVN-3L is in trouble when face hugging very soon.

Part of having to start with those small maps. ELO and big maps are very good things.

Perhaps if his font was bigger, it would get his point across more effectively.

Looks like a match I had last night(I was running only my Ilya for the weekend bonus). Being a lone wolf I barely break the 1.0 kdr due to the horrible match ups pre Elaine. I find the matches are much more balanced since Elaine jumped in to help, as a result a lot more fun. That being said you still do see scrubs appearing on both sides, but not half your team or more like before.

Ya I feel like I had a lot of matches where I was top score of my team and often top overall but still only had a 50% win rate in my solo drops this last weekend. I don't have my screenies on this computer but I had a 1100+dmg game in my new Pretty Baby (bought it for the weekend so hardly any pilot skills), 3-5 kill games in a YLW, 600+dmg and 3+ kills games in Raven 3L, and similar in my flame.

I'm not sure if the Elo has really changed that much for me, but honestly I feel like if I don't carry the team to the win it doesn't happen and even still I can have a 3 kill 500+ dmg match and lost. I can't remember the last time I had a bad game (0-1 kills with under 250 dmg) and still won.

This is indicative of my overall stats too.

I have 936 wins and 802 losses and play a mix of solo pug and drop with 1 or 2 RL friends.
I have 2001 kills and 782 deaths for a 2.56 KDR.

You can look at those stats and tell that I must be doing better than the rest of my team and yet not much more than 50% W/L ratio.

I feel like Elo should let me have a 50/50 W/L without having to carry the team to victory.

Am I thinking too much of myself as a player? I'm not conceited or anything, I just know that if there were people putting up the numbers like I do in the majority of my matches I would win a heck of a lot more.

This weekend I was getting put up against players like Wispsy but often spectating my teammates after I die I'm seeing trial mechs that can't hit the broad side of a barn.

So I guess overall I'm not too impressed with the Elo so far as it's been pretty much business as usual.

You see those 3 mechs with 7 assists and two others with 5? It means they did all the work and you lucked out.

Yeah, 5 assists while dealing a total of 98 dmg. That person sure did do all the work.
The OP clearly stole all the kills, despite the fact that he dished out 932 dmg.
/Sarcasm.

True enough, I think it will be a good thing and this weekend will surely help. Although it makes me wonder how many people who put in hundreds of games pugging and getting a Elo score relative to their pugging experience will now jump into 4 mans and stomp the heck out of pugs that are still actually pugging after the weekend.

Once again time should sort this out as those 4 man pug stompers have their Elo inflated once again as they win 80%+ of matches but in the short time I think business as usual is what to expect.

Please read post 3, the one that says, this whole thread prob does not apply to you. :D

Of course your assertion that you should win more than half your pub matches, and feel like you should not have to carry the team.. well go play 8 mans. If you expect pro play from ronny random, your going to be let down.

Note: In no way shape or form do you explainhow NO MATCH MAKER makes it less likely youll get saddled with bad players. You jsut want pro teamamtes, versus bad players I guess, becuase you say your good, but assert your not conceited.

amiright?

By the by SixSixSix, great game. Yea I hate it too when my team Atlas(s) do crap dmg. That is the whole point, I find it sad when the medium mech gets 500 dmg and then you get assaults that does <100 dmg... It is like soooo wrong and a waste of an assault slot.

I think Lynx7725 says it best:

Hmm. What bothers me about ELO -- or Elaine -- is that I don't like the way they seemed to have placed two high ELO players into a group with 6 somewhat lower ELO, and then thrown the whole mix against another group that appears to have similar ELO for each member (based on match scores) or 1 high and the rest are average. [size=4]

This too is my main point of contention. I sometimes feel ELO is fail when the other team got a averaged out team and your own team has 1 or 2 really good players and the rest are just...., especially if they play higher weigh class mechs..

Man you need to read my post about 3 unicums and 12 reds vs 15 yellows, how it ended up being a great game, and why 2 pros plus 6 bads can equal 8 normals. I am sorry you dont like shouldering their lack of skill, but if you are not up to teh task, your ELO will drop, and you wil not be shouldering them much longer.

I couldnt agree with you more. I made a 4 mans break game balance thread, or 2, or 3, but the golds flamed me to high heaven, and you only have so much forum fuel, and cant outpost the entire comstar server of pub farmers.

No matter how you slice it, when a game allows you to stack 50% of a 8v8 or even 16v16, or 12 v 12 team, especially one with the sharp learning curve of MWO, you will always get imbalance.

The punishment those same 4 man farmers get, is that when and if they try to farm the ghetto that is the random queue solo, they are feed a consistent diet of humble pie.

That they do this is to be expected. PGI allows them to do this, and condones it in that they have let it slide for 6 odd months now, maybe more. But that is a seperate issue from ELO. PGI I am loving you atm, but you know this is true, and you have known it for a long time.

Elaine needs to have supporters, for she adds alot of quality and balance to the current Meta, the same for ECM, lest we all melt under a non stop stream of LRM spam.

But until your premade teams cannot stack 50% of a random match, Elaine will only be able to do so much. Don't forget, she can only use the queued players available, and only has about 2 mins max to do it. This certainly does not make her fail...

What it means, is her job is hard. 4 man teams, in 8 man random matches, to a certain degree, make her attaining perfect balance, near impossible.

I played almost exclusively group (2-4) and after Elo I'm winning more than 50% of my solo games.
Therefore, for me, this is working juuuuuuust fine.

It's in a group we get crapped on, since I like to pilot a medium and my medium+a heavy tends to give the other team an ECM light and an assault...

Medic,

Props. I am alwys happy to give props to guys who can back up their Elaine scores with uber skills. Since your clearly pro though (which you are.. ive seen you win a 3v1 in your hunch.. ya.. 3 vs him solo, and he won, though the levels of dmg as they engaged were varied), why hang in groups of 2 to 4. A gentlemen such as yourself seems ideal for the 8 man queue, wouldnt you agree?

I've done some 8man. It's a bit boring at times, but the tactical aspect is nice.
That said the only build I run that's competitive is a dual-gauss cataphract 4X (not even an Ilya, so slow as molasses).
I play with small groups with people I know in real life and/or from other games. It's a social thing as much as a gaming thing.

I actually like PUGing right now, since the matches tend to be well balanced and I see more of people willing to communicate via textchat rather than rambo at the other team.

Next on my list is to build and learn how to run the AC/20 Raven-4X . Or more likely drop it to an AC/10.

That was you I saw win the 3v1 in the hunch right, it was you or thirdstar. I am thinking it was you. You were on forest colony, and you were mid way between spawns in the open water. You very barely edged them out. Yes?

If it was some time in the last month it was probably not me.
I shelved my hunchbacks to play with Centurions, since people liked them less (and ignored them, allowing for some lovely backshots).

Whichever one of you it as, I gave you props before in a thread a long loong time ago, no it was longer back than that. You had a phract 4x try to communicate with the team, then say as they didnt that they deserved to lose. Early dec maybe.
