You don't know the history of Mechwarrior. I know the history of Mechwarrior.

Sorry, couldn't resist

But yeah, there are some points there I agree with, but an imperfect system is, in theory, better than no system at all.
I wish "ELO" was replaced more with something that actually judged the accuracy of your shots, the percentage of damage you deal, your spotting bonuses, kill / death ratio, something that considered everything you do that helps in some fashion into your score.
They would need to work it so damage and kills were not the core or most influential factors on your score, and they would need to weight things differently for different weight classes and roles somehow.
Lights should get "more points" for spotting assists, TAG/NARC/BAP usage, even ECM usage.
Assaults should get scored on something that looks at both damage taken and damage dealt; something with a curve such that not taking much damage while dealing a lot of damage is less ideal than taking a middling amount of damage and dealing a high amount of damage, but both of the above are better than doing very little damage while taking a lot of damage.
Ballistic and energy weapon accuracy should be factored in (% of head hits > % of RT/LT hits > % CT > % Arms/Legs) and how much damage you deal to a mech that you score a kill on, both in the sense of the % of damage you do to that target vs. others on team, and how much damage exactly - with a higher % of total damage while still doing a lower amount of damage being ideal (indicating you targeted head or the LT/RT of an XL mech, etc.) The MORE damage it takes you to kill a mech, the lower your score in that category.
Missiles should be scored on how many missiles land on target, avoiding friendly fire, and then less so by assists and kills.
Something. Make it an aggregate score in each weight class based on a formula that calculates that all together to give you a ranking.
