The hell? Tom Cruise?

You don't know the history of Mechwarrior. I know the history of Mechwarrior.

(Then BHD starts jumping up and down on the couch.)

Sorry, couldn't resist ;)

But yeah, there are some points there I agree with, but an imperfect system is, in theory, better than no system at all.

I wish "ELO" was replaced more with something that actually judged the accuracy of your shots, the percentage of damage you deal, your spotting bonuses, kill / death ratio, something that considered everything you do that helps in some fashion into your score.

They would need to work it so damage and kills were not the core or most influential factors on your score, and they would need to weight things differently for different weight classes and roles somehow.

Lights should get "more points" for spotting assists, TAG/NARC/BAP usage, even ECM usage.

Assaults should get scored on something that looks at both damage taken and damage dealt; something with a curve such that not taking much damage while dealing a lot of damage is less ideal than taking a middling amount of damage and dealing a high amount of damage, but both of the above are better than doing very little damage while taking a lot of damage.

Ballistic and energy weapon accuracy should be factored in (% of head hits > % of RT/LT hits > % CT > % Arms/Legs) and how much damage you deal to a mech that you score a kill on, both in the sense of the % of damage you do to that target vs. others on team, and how much damage exactly - with a higher % of total damage while still doing a lower amount of damage being ideal (indicating you targeted head or the LT/RT of an XL mech, etc.) The MORE damage it takes you to kill a mech, the lower your score in that category.

Missiles should be scored on how many missiles land on target, avoiding friendly fire, and then less so by assists and kills.

Something. Make it an aggregate score in each weight class based on a formula that calculates that all together to give you a ranking.

I personally enjoy the game since elo more then before.

For me the reason is that I don't end up in as many pug stomps. My games seem to be more even and my opponents more challenging.

I do see more cheese builds but since this weekend I have also been seeing more jerks and griefers in game as well. So I figure they all came out for the tournament.

If half of your matches feature people who should probably be wearing helmets, you are slumming it with me.

The nuerohelmet I got issued never fit right, either. :/

I'd have to say, this is beta. Community warfare isn't up yet. Keep an eye open on this game. Right now it's launch a random match and call it good. Right now they are fine tuning the play mechanics of the game before they move on to the real intent of the game.

ELO is a measure they are trying to use to produce more even and fun games. It is not yet known if it will stay or not. ELO is also something I don't know much about personally.

As for stats, most stats aren't visible to the player base so far, and they have stated that they don't intend to release that info. They don't want people to compare ELOs, as I think they have grown tired of people comparing what few stats that are released to the players.

It's okay if you aren't impressed with this game right now. Take a break and check back later. It sounds like you will like this game once CW comes out.

been playing a bit recently.

winning is luck. it has nothing to do with elo. every game is a crush. id say 1 in 10 are evenly matched.
if you get a team of mouth breathers, you lose. if you try to help them, capture points, tell them not to randomly walk into the enemy etc. it doesnt matter - worse than playing with A.I.
if you get the good team, you win. by good - i mean a team that knows not to randomly walk into enemy fire and have somewhat decent builds for their mechs.
the only difference elo is creating is making the randomly decided matches count for more than they should

I had been praying for a mechwarrior mmo for more then 10 years now. I had never played an mmorpg before and they never really appealed to me, but alas, I was a major battletech fan.

Interestingly enough, you still haven't, but since I totally skipped the rest of your post and, indeed, the entire thread, this post is pretty pointless. And no, you cannot have back the time you took to read it. That time is mine now.
