Building The Ultimate Ddc Brawler

I am only concerned with close range brawling. Long range engagements are not something I will worry about Considering..
Tag ,Medium, Medium Pulse, Large, Large Pulse, ER PPC
Ac2, Ac5, UAC5, Ac10, LBX10, Ac20, Gauss
SSRM, SRM 4, SRM 6
Standard or XL engine
Double or single heatsinks
Max armor, or maybe some off the legs. Reluctant to take any off the upper body. Also what distribution, front to back. Getting surrounded is expected.
High alpha and sustained fire are both worth considering.
Damage resistance and maintaining combat effectiveness after sustaining heavy fire is also worth considering.
Ammo, tons one would want for an entire match, and placement, as well as cases, are equally important. This build might die fast, so ammo tonnage and locations of the ammo versus survivability is an issue.
Possibly no ECM, I saw a a guy posting it is a waste of tonnage.
I know there are alot of variables, and many different opinions, so please post respectfully and do not flame each other in this thread, or the new player asking. Please.
Thanks in advance. With any luck I will have my build decided by the time I get it. (sometime tomorrow)

Accept no substitutes. No really, don't listen to people who tell you that this build is bad.
Artemis is personal preference. If you take it off, you can get another heat sink or more ammo.

350 standard engine is fine. Using a lower engine to bring Large Lasers instead gives you some long-range ability (that or swapping out the AC/20 for a Gauss Rifle) and an extra 8 damage on pinpoint Alpha (cause really, you won't always be in ideal SRM range all the time).

"With all my capping spoils I have almost saved enough for a D-DC Atlas."
"Possibly no ECM, I saw a a guy posting it is a waste of tonnage."
He's baiting so very hard. Go on, check his post history.

I would put two tons of AC/20 ammo in with the AC/20 itself. This way, you get at least a bit of Crit padding" there. Sure, if the AC/20 ammo goes first, you might lose the entire mech (but having done this before, I never did), but your AC/20 will generally last about 17 % longer once your internals are exposed. And it's much more likely you lose the side torso completely without losing the internal items.

Don't think he's trolling, he actually believes what he's saying. We should encourage him to become a D-DC brawler so that the base capping will end and the excitement will return.

Done in one....The only thing about that build I would change is ammo location (I would load up the AC/20 in BOTH legs, then spead the SRM ammo between the head, left arm, right arm, but that is just me).

Endo and DHS
Std 325 Engine
2 UAC/5 w/ 8 tons ammo
3 SRM 6 w/4 ( I think) tons ammo
2 Med Pulse
It has enough UAC ammo so you don't need to worry about conservation, can fight at range in a pinch, has enough SRM ammo to last a brawling match, and med pulses for the lightshow. Or you can drop some ammo/ downgrade SRMs to upgrade the med pulses to large lasers. In the end it's all up to personal preference though.

ac20 w/4t ammo
2X Large Laser (one in each arm - for targeting screen edges.)
3xSSRM2 to crush the lights
and ECM (to counter lights ECM, then SSRM them)
AMS /w 1T ammo (think i took 7 armour out of each leg to get this in (weight))
double heat sinks to keep the firing rate up. can't remember how many...
I'll go head to head with any other atlas... normally don't do too bad..

She's slow, and a liability at over 500 meters. Get into knife fighting range though, kicks a lot of ***.
Nice suicide Build. Never put your ammo in the center or head area. If you change that, it's a build that i would try someday.

Not terrible, but not top-tier. Next!

BAP? Artemis SRM4s? Only 1 ton of SRM ammo? AC20 ammo in your CT? Maxed out arm and leg armor? WTF?

My D-DC got 1xAC20, 3x SRM6, 2xLL, AMS, ECM, DHS and a 300STD engine.
It's the brawler type but not completely helpless at range.
The AC20 is just too good to give up and I've tried SSRMs and LRMs and a mix too. But they don't work as well.
You could also switch to SRM4 and a bit less ammo and get 2 ERPPC instead of the LL for better long range performance.
For armor distribution I'd recommend very strong fromt armor. Legs can be reduced quite a bit. Back isn't that important if you know how to pilot well. You don't have weapons in your back and you're not meant to run away. So the best thing to do is face the opponent and let him face your firepower.
If you get attacked by light mechs back up against a wall and hopefully some teammate will help you. Atlai are no light mech hunters. They can kill them but it's wasted firepower which would be better used somewhere else.
I also agree with Tigerchen, never put ammo in your CT, head isn't that bad depending on mech. Also don't forget to use C.A.S.E. if you have ammo in your side torsos. Most people aim at them first and you don't want to lose your arm and side torso because that 1t of AMS ammo explodes.

Honestly, when was the last time you got headshotted in your Atlas?

Very constructive.
I can understand when people reduce the leg armor of the Atlas -but reduced arm armor?
Disqualified.
