Oddly I had to read the patch notes for tomorrow at IGN. We all have to deal with people hiding behind the entire team and comes out only to KS. This Savior bonus seems to reward KS.

You know, I'll do that. When I see you in a ****** situation about to get asploded I'll just ignore you because you might be thinking I'll "steal" your kill.

Or would you prefer me to save your ***?

The tactic you describe have been in use by medieval infantry for thousands of years. Distract the enemy and an ally runs in behind them an hamstrings them so that you can kill them easier.

It's called helping your fellow soldier.

Listen to the hero here. I thought 4manz liked to burn off their pugs and then go fight the remnants.

See, I can post a ridiculous generalization too.

To be fair, I have complained about "killstealing"
I complain when someone runs in front of me as the guy's almost dead, and facehugs him.
So really, it's more a complaint about people getting between me and my target, not them shooting him as well.

Real fighting...

I've always wondered about what exactly that means because I have never witnessed those things you describe except of course for when the ENTIRE TEAM except myself decides it is a good idea to beeline to the base.

And I PUG so It cannot be PUG's you are describing but something else.

Only if that soldier did a tatical retreat to support from distance. I am talking about the player leaving the scene and just comes after to get the one shot off. Doesnt happen often. But when I run my 107 flame. I skirmish the line then flank when main group attacks. Back in the day. Before ranged. Most armies attacked in lines with battle pulses and main goal was to flank and encircle. Hard to hamstring someone in a line formation. Why not just kill instead of hamstring?

You know, in those circumstances friendly fire tend to happen becuase stpid people run into the line of fire of more heavily armed mechs...

I'm not suggesting things but accidents DO happen in war...

Killstealing and backhugging are the classic tools of the successful pugger.
It's the only way to consistently win matches with the quality of your average pug in MWO; it seems impossible to maintain good performance otherwise.

Try to push and get a legitimate kill on your own? Too bad! The opposing team will focus on you whilst the rest of the pugs retreat; hell, I've seen the most cowardly Atlai in pugs whom would rather force lighter 'Mechs to do the tanking then just score kills once the enemy is damaged enough for them to finish off.

So, who really cares - the enemy is DEAD you won. You most likely did the most damage on him as well.

Besides, from his perspective he might just have lent a hand or found a good shooting position.

I have never thought about who kills what and if someone "own" a kill but rather focus on killing anything NOT on my team. WWhen 1 target is dead you move to the next, rinse repeat.

well If my mech is half beaten, almost dead, or someone keep shooting at me while i'm in vulnerable position, by all means.. Killsteal me. I'd rather my kill stolen and win rather than takes all killing by myself then I died in enemy nest.

There is no such thing as kill stealing in MWO.

MWO is a team game, you have teammates, they have guns same as you, their guns do damage same as you, if they are shooting the same target as you, THAT is called teamwork.

A living enemy can shoot you or your teammates, if a teammate kills him before you, then he is dead sooner then you would have done it. He may have saved you damage or death or maybe another teammate. If you wanted the kill, well you should have killed him sooner then. You'll note that you get rewarded for assists too and well.

But beyond that there is no good reason to be mad unless you are more worried about stat chasing and personal glory. If you are more worried about personal glory I recommend a less team oriented game... well that or get better so you don't need teammates (good luck with that).

Now when I'm almost dead with someone on my rear I'm going to have to type in team chat, "STEAL MY KILL! STEAL IT!!!!!!!!"

I actually do feel that I should get more C-Bills for an "assist" that grants me 75XP because I stripped all his armor than an "assist" where I grazed him with a couple large lasers at ~700m for probably 1 damage, but they give me the same amount and count the same for the purposes of rewards.

I also feel guilty when I KS someone and get like 25xp for the kill instead of 150+ as if I actually earned it.

It's not a bad thing in theory, I just hope it doesn't encourage selfish play.

So ho do you "proffessional" guys do it? Say beforehand to your team about who is killing who? Not helping each other out after a target is down?

Oooh, I've seen that. Usually I see one guy running out in the open engaging the enemy, then he dies. I believe it's called ramboing and then they blame the rest of the team - I never knew the pro's did that.

Why should they not focus on the closest target engaging their team mate?

Retreat where? You said you engaged so you must have been in the front, the rest most likely took cover - why expose oneself unneccessary just because you ran out and became primary.

Did you TELL the others about your idea of attacking?

Light's dont TANK - they run around the enemy, taking their attention away from the larger mechs who can then bring their firepower to bear.

An assault like an atlas is not a "tanker" it's an assault mech who can take punishment but should not really be in the very front of the fighting.

That's for heavies, the assault is the literal moving fortress with massive firepower - it is NOT a brawler since lighter mechs can run circles around it.

Says the one who made sweeping generalizations about casual players belittling their skills because you yourself feel you are so much more of a tactical genius?
