My idea in ages of yore was to release an Urbie Hero mech. ONLY a Hero Mech.

If it's a matter of resources to get the Urbie out the door, it being a Hero Mech would make the funds to cover it a sure thing.

Go one Step further? THREE DIFFERENT Urbie Hero mechs if they have to stick with the master system they have.

I'd be OK with that, if it were the only way to get it in game. Still would like an actual CBill chassis someday, with variants, but I just want my Deputy Dawg, lol.

First let me say, those are some nice pics the OP drew.

Although I voted no for an Urbanmech, and I would not own one (even Hero), if one DID get added into the game I would pick the V1 picture.

I just don't see the need to add in a 30 Ton light that goes 32Kph (just to mount an AC20).

Funny thing is though, you can fit a Gauss on a Raven if you are resourceful (and move a blistering 50 kph) It's 20 Kph faster than an Urbie, and it is still normally a death trap (and a Raven has a smaller sillouette too).

Urbie will be Shorter than a Commando. The Raven might be more svelte...... but Urbie can hide behind a hotdog cart, lol.

I agree on most points - the thing to remember is that the Urbanmech is as specialized as the A1 cat. It needs a city or lots of cover to move around - it's utility is in cramped spaces where the enemy cannot use their own strengths against it. So like many other mechs it has a role.

We just need the maps to support it.

Bishop, I prefer the legs and lower torso and arms of your first concept but would like it with the iconic dome top rising out of it. Also I always liked the short, wide view-port of the Urbie because it made me think of a bunker. I really like the V1 sketch, I just feel like it needs to be a little more traditional Urbie. The V2 sketch seems a little too much like the original. I'm picturing your V1 sketch right up to the bottom of its view port and then R2D2's dome like head sticking out the top of all of the squareishness. I realize I'm talking like I want to have my cake and eat it too here, but these are just my opinions.

I'm thinking as far as the in game mechanics of the mech goes, a near 360 degree torso twist and fast reflex times would make this thing pretty dangerous to any lights coming in on it even though it wouldn't have the speed to evade them. Actually... this part is pretty much what FupDup said. The jump jets would be a necessity, and personally I'd glue myself to the *** of an Atlas to protect his rear and together we'd rule the Inner Sphere.

On a side note, I like your sketches and have been trying to make the transition into digital media from the pens and paper I've been using all my life. I can't afford classes, and my Wacom Bamboo makes me feel disconnected since I'm drawing in my lap and it appears on the monitor on my desk. My budget for the computer itself would be around $600 and I'm thinking along the lines of a second hand Lenovo Thinkpad or Fujitsu Lifebook with 4 gigs of RAM so I could use a modern operating system and newer version of Adobe Illustrator. I'd like pressure sensitivity on the touch screen, but things like that aren't typically advertised except on something like Bamboo's tablet which is way-the-eff out of my price range.
Anyway, you sound like you're actually in the industry and have experience with this sort of thing so if you'd be interested in sending me a message with any thoughts, advice, or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate any knowledge you can pass my way. Also I know there are some options from specialty companies, but I don't know their names or anything about them... and I have a friend who's getting into film and rather than buying something good that you can get lenses for, he always goes for the elitist specialist crap from online companies where he can't even try it first and it winds up being a multi-thousand dollar piece of junk that he bemoans for a year after. I don't want to be that guy.

Well thanks for all the input

TBH, I am pretty new to the digital domain myself, and I have only started to toy with my Bamboo tablet. And your issue is the same I have, I am used to watching my pen or pencil on the surface, so watching a screen while my hand draws is totally counter intuitive. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find info on a art pad that would let you draw on the screen, essentially, then transfer to the desktop for editing. If ANYONE does know of such a device, I would love to hear about it, mysel.

The maps are good enough for a urbanmech already. The choke point caves, Every map is urban, even alpine gamma is all urban, tourmaline ridges are bunker like everywhere with good pop-up spots. None of the maps is just wide open plains. Caustic ridges, the refinery, alpine mounds......theres cover everywhere. ;)

Those sketches aren't bad (very good in fact), but I'd like to ultimately see what FlyingDebris comes up with in order to remain consistent. I did like them though.

That said, of course I want an Urbie. I don't know if I'd ever take one into a serious drop (unless we got some exceptionally badass hero Urbie) but by God I'd take one in public games. A lot.

The Urbanmech: The only light I really want to own.

I definitely think the V1 looks much better, but that's me. And I know they're not, but I'd love for the legs to be reverse-joint; just because I love the look of reverse-joint legs. And if they were, you could make the argument that it should have the about equal forward and reverse speed, which I think would give it a fitting quirk over other lights; especially combined with higher acceleration/deceleration.

Would like to see it able to to mount heavy weapons somehow, without being crippled in some other way; I know it's possible, but not at all practical to put an AC5/10 in a Spider, with a small XL engine and reduced armour.

Also, would likely need a lot of leg armour, since it has pretty big legs and isn't that fast.

Funny, I saw that concept on battletechwiki too....although I felt for 35 tons the scale was waaaay off unless it was made of carbon fiber and aluminum LOL

That would make the M1A1 abrams weigh almost double that... and about 1/6 the size

all that aside, I rememeber seeing the Urbanmech for the first time in my old 3025 tech readout. what an odd mech but loved the look. I would love to see it in game but must definitly agree that it would be outclassed by all else....definitly seems, based on stats, suited for urban environments against infrantry/vehicle's (mechs not included)

you obviously have never been confronted by a sea of shining Urbies if you could believe they could be outclassed! Strength in numbers and unity! When my Battalion of Urban doom unloads its collective AC/360 in your backside, you won't worry about Godswrath, but Urbies!

Cover yes, but not broken terrain that removes the speed advantage of other light mechs. Having huge buildings and 90 degree corners everywhere breaks down lights into Urbanmech speeds.

That's a lot of dev time you're eating up for one crappy mech. Even if you did drop all this time into trying to make it more useful it would still be awful. A mech that light and slow serves purpose. Other light mechs will just avoid it if they can't kill it. It sure as hell won't be able to chase them down. It will plonder around not doing anything until something much bigger runs into it and it will die.

Seriously with the state of this game all it will be is a favorite prey for medium mechs.

Thanks for the speedy reply, Bishop. We should badger the art staff for tips and make them put this in the game. Afterwards we can move on to my Charger that I've been wanting so badly. >:)
