But we are not the decision makers at PGI are we? They call the final shot. We, the consumers decide if we continue to use their product after they do so.

My personal opinion on the matter is a bit indifferent. I will not be using it as I have sufficient grasp of the controls to play the way I want to. I can however see how it would make a great set of training wheels for new players. Considering some of the people posting in this topic have complained about how steep the learing curve is why is it that you object to what is potentially a valueable tool to soften that curve?

It's not a set of training wheels, and you WILL use it. You don't have a choice.

People WILL see you around corners, and you WILL poptart to counter, or you'll go play something else. That's the nature of this beast. It's been like this since MW2.

That's why they said they won't have it in MWO. They made detailed posts about why we can't have third person, or coolant, or other 'staples' of mechwarrior...

Did you all forget already?

Or do you like being lied to by PGI?

Pretty simple for me, they promised a few things that they WOULDN'T do when I pledged for this game, third person is their last bastion of honestly. If third person is added to the game, I'm done. I really don't give a rats behind how it's added...they said never.

I won't pretend for a moment that the $200 or so I've put into this game is anywhere near the amount of money some have sunk in, but just seeing that post on twitter about 3rd person being "soon" has cost the dev's the $30 dollars I was about to spend to bump my MC back up, and it's going into increasing my Star Citizen pledge instead.

There will be no more money either until this "third person" idea get's shot down now that it's been brought up again.

Who is this 3rd person?

And no offense to you, but this statement from someone with an IGP tag on a topic this incendiary just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Hey look, it's one of those rare times where MWO SHOULD crib from the WoT playbook. Offer new players a semi-scripted tutorial. Give them 500,000CB for completing it. Explain in no uncertain terms that your torso moves independently of your legs in said tutorial, amongst other things. Bam, DONE.

Much less coding-intensive, and significantly less likely to make your entire userbase march out to your offices with torches and pitchforks (though they're in Canada, so polite signage and strongly worded essays are more likely).

Agree with this. It's easy and would be helpful for the new players. You can also explain other things as well.

Please do a ingame tutorial instead! You don't see Valve working there resources to dumb down/alter Dota2, they worked on a enjoyable tutorial experience instead!

Forgive me if I play for my personal enjoyment. Even when I do play competively I am rather casual about it. I have not, and will not ever play a MW title in 3rd person. Ruins my imersion. If others want to use that and it gives them a competive advantage good for them.

I also realize things change. It is the nature of the beast that is life or what passes for such on the internet.

the CONE is the direction of your lower body (legs) and the ARROW is the direction your torso is facing, what's hard to understand?

I guess I never noticed it. I use the minimap to see how my opponents are facing, not me.

Shills aren't responsible for crowbarring RnR 1.1 and coolant into the game, or making 'soon' promises about third person. Direct your wrath towards those responsible. They need you more than you need them.

We're all adults here. You think if this crashes, and it likely will, MW will die out? No. Someone's gonna steal the game wholesale, put it on a russian server somewhere, and we'll play 'MECHWARRIOR ONLINE: now proudly PGI free' for the next ten years.

The whole company seems built around egos.

I have nothing but respect from some of Devs here, top of list being Thomas. Kudos to you guys.

However, if I posted what I really think about certain Devs/Mods and a certain Community Manager, i'd get my *** banned so fast it would leave me spinning.

Hey I guess I'm never getting that cockpit doohickey the Devs/Mods are handing out to players 'supportive' of the game. Enjoy your banner thingo Mr Angry Tank.

To be fair, Bryan said it was forthcoming. (No idea when) Training Map with a scripted tutorial.

That's kind of it isn't it, the Dev's themselves seem decent, but they are just "following orders" aren't they? its the higher ups we need to be angry at who make these kind of decisions, not the people who make it happen. Anybody seen Niko Snow' signature comment as far as job title? just saying that says a lot to me about what they think of us.

Pretty much this. They may not realize the thin ice they are on, especially after the consumables debacle. Or they do and are going for the final squeeze before dying a horrible twitch-based-knockoff death. This game is fun but it is not nearly quality enough to survive for long on its own merits in the FPS-twitch market; not when PS2 is being pony-backed by Sony and not a bunch of old grognards. It needs to be what it is and be good in that niche to make monies, not what it can never be and will fail hard at attempting to be so

Whoever's pulling the big strings in this company does not understand this IP or even basic gaming culture.

That's exactly why I don't want third person, just like with Mechwarrior 4. However, like I said, people start with the sky is falling bit every time something comes up and those types of posts don't help anyone, especially considering how we have 0 actual information about this.

You mean SWGemu, that while still being built is at this very moment hosting about 1600 people playing SWG?

You've clearly never played WoT.

In WoT, you can't "scout" with 3rd person. The game won't draw any tank that hasn't been passed through the spotting mechanic. If they wanted to do third person here, they'd need something like that. Can you imagine? They've just gotten around to make the game playable for most people, and adding in the server strain of a spotting mechanic, and ACTUAL invisibility for ECM?

Add that with how common friendly fire is from a nearly sighted perspective, third person would make that WORSE.

In 24 hours we've had missiles buffed to miniature nuclear weapons, the introduction of a coolant "feature" we were promised would never be introduced, possible tacit acknowledgement of MC ammo, and now official, CONFIRMED acknowledgement of 3rd person still being alive and well.

Buddy, we're beyond screaming "the sky is falling." The heavens have opened up and are now raining fire and brimstone.

Match replay is fine, everybody would love that forever. During-match spectating 3PV is bad due to the cheap-yet-vast intel that provides as your dead pilot uses his ghost powers to scout the entire battlefield. Before you claim that you can't do that ingame or that they can block comms, remember that there are at least ten different ways to 3rd-party that commlink.

I think you are assuming some sort of free camera mode instead of a chase cam for spectate mode.

So you won't mind at all when everyone else has a distinct advantage over you and every time you turn a corner you're immediately met with a facefull of AC/20 and die. If, to you, the immersion is really worth only being able to actually play the game for two minutes before dying every time you drop then fine, good for you, but the rest of us aren't so masochistic.
