Lots of new content hitting rightnow. I've been messing with Warfame, Neverwinter nights, MWTactics and a bunch of other smaller work.

Trying hard to get more info into Heavy Gear - I want alpha status damn it :D

3rd person has no place in a simulator

Name me a very popular sim that doesn't have 3rd person, then name me all the ones that do.
Then realize how bloody stupid this statement is.

The reason everyone is gone is that they announced CW would be coming in May. Thanks for ECM, ELO, 3rd person fiasco, and hotfix PGI. We're not going to stick around for all this bi-weekly tweaking and borking of the game. Cya in May!

Still having 40-55 members on our TS in our prime time. Doing 8vs8 regularly. We'll endure.

in the absence of data, it is more reasonable to assume the silent majority feels more or less the same way as the vocal minority does, than to assume otherwise.

What? You mean it's a bad idea to base their "mystery metrics" based on NON-players of MWO (such as the "male gamer" who is into 3rd person games, etc.) instead of actual forum feedback?

Then why are the vocal minority's threads frequently thrown into the "Heatsinks" subforum? And how soon does this thread gets thrown there?

He's not talking about sims, but "simulators"-- like the ones you train actual flight pilots in, though they have external cameras to see the landing gear and such.

The problem with 3rd person view in a mech sim is that that your external camera would probably be destroyed/mangled first thing in battle, unless they are magic... That's why you can only buy cockpit items and not hats for your mechs (though they could be a cash cow as MC-only consumables) .

The core players don't matter. The core doesn't know what it wants. We must improve the new player experience, by adding 3rd person for REASONS. We're adding 3rd person, and that's just how it is. Coolant shots are here to stay. Gold artillery. No news forever.

Etc.

I think they hit the nail rather squarely on the head. I don't recall them saying the core players don't matter, I think you are exaggerating a bit there. However the core player base doesn't seem to know what it wants. If you read these forums there are cries of every weapon, every chassis, and every map being op, or otherwise bad.

Plus the core forum posters =/= the core player base. If they really want to judge what it is the core player base wants they should conduct an in game poll from the players that have logged the most hours of game time. That will give them a better read of what the core player base wants.

I consider myself a core player, but I don't want anything close to what the forums clamor on about.

"Sims" is a short form for the word "simulator". The only time this is not the case is when talking about "the sims".

Thats literally like saying "His not talking about RPG's, his talking about "Role playing games"."

As for the hard core fan base? No clue. Im not one of them, so I cant speak for them. However for the solo player, I can tell you that by and large the reason that less people are playing is, the hardcore fan base. They are rude, and create imbalanced matches for their own enjoyment.

Farming in 4 mans, it must really be that fun huh? You guys just cant quit on it no matter how much it hurts the community.

Woah, you're making the same mistake as PGI in NOT segmenting the "hard core fan base"...

I mean, you realize there is a "hard core fan base" who wants 3rd person, a "hard core fan base" that's cooling off cos of coolants, a "hard core fan base" who...

Not to mention the "hard core fan base" which can mean whatever you want it to mean-- so just call 4-man farming groups what they are: 4-man farming groups.

Stop with the semantics and language education classes-- I was explaining with examples what his INTENT was... you know, the message that's actually being expressed with words?

And you were NOT understanding the message-- because of your hangs-up with the words/language used.

Do you have any idea what you're talking about? The Heatsinks subforum is the 'sticky subforum' of GD and was created because there were too many hot topics that if we leave them in GD, the stickies would basically flood the first page. It's where the HIGHEST priority threads go.

The dumping ground is Kaetetoa.

In any case, this thread doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast, and now looks like it's starting to show signs of devolving into a flame thread...

Possible-- speaking for myself, I see no point in continuing the xp/c-bills grind, since MWO is not some MMORPG (& the less said about the mech/pilot skill trees the better)... so I'm not really interested in playing (or paying) without some mission-based objectives or ACTUAL "game modes" (see Community Warfare).

So I'll maybe just join a match when I log-on and when I log-off my computer-- just to see what lols can be had, and maybe come to the forums to find what's happening (& what lols can be had)... yeah, I'm totally that PUG who's ruining the game for the "hard core fan base", whoever they are.

Ooh, so the Heatsink sub-forum is not cool enough for this thread? Guess I was too optimistic with my predictions....

You, are absolutely correct. I should not assume the 4 mans are the hardcore player base. Let me clean the statement up..

Where did everyone go?

Players who have played a long time have left due to unmet expectations, whether reasonable or not.

Players who are new, largely leave because of the 4 man pub experience.

Players who have not left, like this game despite these negatives. I fall into this category, but it does not mean we are ok with the above either.

One word...

Repetition.

9 Different maps, proclivity of "cheese-builds", rinse, repeat.

I still drop 10 - 15 times a night, but that's mostly because my house has a few different things going to keep players interested, not because of anything PGI has done.

I played quiet a lot until Nov/Dec when I got bored with the repetitive nature of the game and the other short comings. I took a break, bought myself some Stalkers and played them for a while, but ultimately the game has not evolved in the direction I would like since Dec, if evolving at all. I check in now and then where they are but so far this check list is not yet complete:
  • Fix to ECM
  • Community Warfare
  • CTDs/disconnects
  • EU servers
  • More and larger maps
  • Ability too choose opponents/servers (since I want to play against my friends as well as with them)
Until there are some check marks next to these items I see little point in spending time on this game.

Time zone matters. PuG population is still all right, but the 8-8 queue is basically dead now.

So friend when are they going to listen to US? And build a MSN gamming lobby and let US have leagues back?I hope it is before the game dies or so few left to restart the burners?. Posted Image

I tried a few 8 mans, but I like to play more than 2 games per hour.

Only part of this is due to "failed to find match".

The main reason is people who think others have nothing better to do but wait while they tweak their builds in the mech-bay. It's bad enough in 4 mans - 8 mans are a killer.

I swear I've waited over 15 mins sometimes while people buy mechs, change loadouts, and even play around with camos.

I make sure the mech(s) I'm going to play are ready to roll BEFORE joining a group; maybe I'm strange? :D

We have a room for that. 8-mans is the last place you tweek builds. Even four man groups it should be hot swaps.
